Summer Thorne sensed his movement but didn't turn around.
Not until Timothy York took her hand and gently brushed it over a scabbed wound did Summer Thorne finally look back.
But one glance was all it took for her to freeze.
At the same time, she understood why Timothy York hadn't wanted her to see.
Beneath her fingers, his most recent wound had indeed mostly healed. Although the scab was still prominent, the skin was at least whole again.
But that wasn't what made her freeze.
It was the other scars on his body.
Summer Thorne quickly pulled her hand back, then stripped his shirt completely off.
The body before her, once so intimately familiar, was now almost unrecognizable.
Besides being thinner, there were also scars of varying depths on his chest, abdomen, and arms. Some were dots, others were lines, and every single one was foreign to her.
Summer Thorne couldn't resist reaching out, gently tracing a long scar across his abdomen.
