Of all times, Summer Thorne's phone, which was on the nightstand, suddenly rang—
'Who would be calling her after three in the morning?'
Startled, Summer scrambled off him and grabbed her phone, only to see an unfamiliar local number.
She answered the call, a mix of surprise and unease in her voice.
"Are you Summer Thorne?" the person on the other end asked. "This is the Milian Road police station. Do you know a Xavier Lockwood?"
After hanging up, Summer Thorne flicked on the bedside lamp with a CLICK.
Timothy York was still sitting against her headboard. A dark glint flashed in his eyes, but on a closer look, his expression had returned to calm as he watched her get out of bed and get dressed.
"My friend's in trouble. I have to go get him." Summer had already pulled on a sweater and a long skirt. She then asked him, "Are you... going to rest here?"
Timothy York slowly averted his gaze. "No."
"Then close the door for me when you leave."
