My attention snapped to the one who had just spoken.
Before I could even act, the one in my grip moved. A powdery film flashed all over my line of sight and the next moment, my face was burning.
I jerked back, releasing him as my hands flew to my face at the scalding agony that spread across my skin.
These monsters!
My rage roared and the pain vanished.
No one was going anywhere!
I wrenched my eyes open. The assassin I'd released was scrambling backward, already several feet away. Two others were fleeing across the bridge, and darting towards the next rising building.
They were getting away!
My will closed around their threads like a fist.
I had meant to control the lines threading through their bodies, but the ones in the air wrapped around all three of them.
