Effer's jaw tightened. The fury in her eyes flickered, and I watched the calculation move behind that gaze.
She should at least weigh my words against that anger of hers.
My logic was sound, and she knew it.
"The girl is an unknown variable," I pressed. "Again, her strength is growing at an alarming rate. Who knows what she could be capable of in the time to come. We are housing out own likely destruction by keeping her alive."
She did not answer immediately.
Just when I thought she was listening, Effer turned away, her hand tightly gripping her cane. She tapped it once against the floor.
"You are not wrong," she said, her voice clipped.
"Then—"
"I said you are not wrong. But this is terrible. I am disappointed in you." She turned back to face me, her eyes still hard.
"Oh, please." I frowned. "If research is all you need, you can extract everything you want for your laboratories in Draconia—"
