Varus found him hours later, still standing in the same spot, staring at nothing.

Kafu didn't respond.
"Master." Varus's voice was gentle, understanding. "She's not gone. She's sleeping. And when you've done what you need to do, you'll find a way to wake her."
Kafu's gold-red eyes flickered. "How do you know?"
"Because I've lived long enough to know that love doesn't end. It transforms. It waits. It hopes." Varus placed a hand on his shoulder. "She's waiting for you, master. Don't make her wait forever."
Kafu took a deep breath, then another. Slowly, painfully, he pulled himself back to the present.
