Dron's breath came fast.
He fought not to panic.
He rushed down the steps.
The lower deck was filled with smoke and confusion. Dron could barely see in front of his face but he squinted his eyes to focus. Humans and beta's were scrambling away from the stairs, some carrying whatever weapon they could find.
Tempest stood near the entrance to the larger room where some of the humans had gathered earlier.
She had a long wooden staff in her hands.
She was fighting.
If Dron wasn't before, he was so proud of her in that moment.
Dron watched her strike an Uspanx warrior across the face, forcing him backward. The male stumbled but another immediately moved toward her.
Dron roared.
The warrior turned, his eyes grown wide in the instant it took Dron to get across the space.
Dron hit him hard enough to send him crashing through the opposite wall.
Tempest spun toward him, surprised that he was suddenly there with her.
"Dron!"
"Are you hurt?" Dron focused on her.
