Cherreads

Chapter 27 - Chapter 27

The air crackled, thick with the scent of ozone and dust. This guy is different. Silvermane's massive frame, all polished chrome and sharp edges, seemed to drink in the dim light. The energy mane flared, tendrils lashing out like silver whips, each one leaving a searing trail in the air.

His Spider-Sense screamed, a blinding white noise in his mind, trying to show him every path, every lethal arc. It was too fast, too much information. He dodged, a frantic blur, feeling the plasma heat lick at his suit as the tendrils carved deep gouges into the concrete walls.

CRACKLE.

He needed to get closer, past that energy shield.

"You merely delay the inevitable, little insect," Silvermane rumbled, a metallic chuckle echoing in the space. "A fragile organic against eternal power."

"I'm a spider, not an insect," he shot back, planting his feet, ready to spring. "And I'm about to spin your doom."

He shot a web. It caught a low-hanging pipe, swinging him in a wide arc over a sweeping attack from Silvermane's mane. Close call. Plasma sizzled where he had been. He landed behind the massive robot, hoping to use its bulk against it.

He aimed a powerful kick at the back of Silvermane's knee. Hit it hard. The impact jarred his leg, a dull ache shooting through his shin.

THUD

Silvermane barely shifted.

The robot pivoted, its chrome fist a blur. He narrowly avoided the crushing blow, feeling the wind of it against his mask. Direct hits were useless.

"Your efforts are like a child's tantrum," Silvermane scoffed, its visor glowing red. "Utterly ineffective against Silvermane."

"This child," he retorted, adjusting his stance, "is about to dismantle you piece by piece."

Silvermane roared, a sound like grinding gears and tearing metal. His energy mane flared, each silver-blue tendril spitting plasma. It moved faster now, a whirlwind of crackling energy.

He backed up, pushing against a cold concrete pillar. The whips lashed around him, striking the concrete, sending chips flying. Heat scorched his face with every near miss.

This is bad. Can't stay here.

He tried to web Silvermane's visor, a desperate move to blind the monster.

The webbing shot out, a thick white stream. It dissolved mid-air, incinerated by the raw plasma before it even got close. He pulled back, a spray of molten web hitting the pillar beside him.

Useless.

A tendril whipped out, catching his left shoulder.

Sizzle.

Pain lanced through him, a sharp burning that made him stumble. The suit protected him, but he still felt the impact, a deep ache in his bone.

"Caught in Silvermane's web now, little spider," the robot taunted, its voice dripping with mocking amusement. "A plaything for my pleasure."

He gritted his teeth, pushing off the pillar. Plaything? Not a chance.

"I'm about to show you who the real predator is."

He crashed against the cavern wall, a hard impact that rattled his teeth. The silver tendrils retracted for a moment, letting him slide to the ground. His shoulder throbbed. He saw the Ninders regrouping, moving in for the kill.

This isn't working. I can't keep doing this.

Despair clawed at him, cold and sharp. He closed his eyes, forcing himself to breathe, trying to push past the panic. Garia's words echoed in his mind, quiet but clear. "Invisible threads… not just a tingling."

He focused, pushing deeper into the screaming static of his Spider-Sense. He searched for a pattern in the chaos. The buzzing shifted. It wasn't just a warning of where Silvermane's attacks would land, but a deeper hum, a current showing him when and how the giant robot would move next.

It's not just about reacting. It's about knowing.

He had to trust that feeling, not just what his eyes showed him.

He opened his eyes, the red lenses now sharp and clear. Silvermane brought its arm back, preparing another sweep with the plasma tendrils. Too slow. Takuya saw the attack before it began, the invisible threads of his Spider-Sense showing him the exact path.

Instead of dodging, he pushed forward, leaning into the path of the closest silver whip. He grabbed it.

SCREECH.

A searing pain shot through his gloved hand. The plasma burned, threatening to melt the reinforced fabric of his suit. He bit back a cry, holding on tight.

Gotta use it.

He used the momentum, letting Silvermane's own attack whip him upward. He became a living projectile, aiming for the massive robot's head. Mid-air, he shot a web. It stuck to Silvermane's metallic scalp.

"The web turns, tin can," he yelled, his voice strained from the burning pain. "Now you're the one caught!"

He pulled, launching himself across the remaining distance. He landed hard on Silvermane's shoulder, ignoring the tremors of the massive frame. His target was the glowing red orb on its chest, a pulsing weakness Garia had mentioned.

That's it. Right there.

Silvermane roared, a sound like a concrete mixer grinding rocks. The massive metallic hand swiped at him. He moved, a blur of red and black, leaping over the arm as it crashed into the wall, showering him with dust and debris.

He came down on Silvermane's arm. Now or never. He pushed all his Aether into his right fist, a blue-silver light flaring around his glove.

He drove the punch straight into the glowing orb on Silvermane's chest.

CRUNCH

Metal groaned. Energy sparked, blue-silver light pulsing erratically from the wound. Silvermane staggered back, a guttural sound echoing from its metallic throat. The ground shook.

He landed on the floor, his body screaming in protest. Every muscle ached, and his shoulder burned from the earlier hit. But a fierce satisfaction burned hotter in his chest.

"That's for my father!" he yelled, the raw declaration of vengeance tearing from his throat.

Silvermane's glowing red visor flickered like a dying light. Got him. The massive body swayed, movements jerky and uncoordinated now. The energy mane sputtered, its tendrils retracting back into its metallic frame.

"How?" Silvermane's voice, now a grating static, ripped through the air. "How could a puny human…?"

The words cut off in a final, piercing shriek of grinding metal. Blue-silver energy pulsed wildly from the damaged core, too much power, too fast.

BOOM

A brilliant flash of blue-silver energy erupted from Silvermane's chest, followed by a cloud of black smoke. The colossal Machine BEM crashed to the ground, a deafening CRACK that shook the entire substation.

Twisted chrome and shattered circuits were all that remained.

He stood over the wrecked chrome, chest heaving. That's done. Finally. His whole body screamed, every muscle burning from the fight. The air still smelled like burnt metal and ozone. He forced himself to breathe, tasting dust and the coppery tang of his own blood.

A guttural snarl ripped through the air, sharp and cold.

"You celebrate a petty victory, little spider."

Amazoness. Her crimson eyes burned, twin points of pure, terrifying anger. Her silver hair flowed as she moved toward the wreckage, metallic claws extended, glinting in the dim light.

"Machine BEMs possess a hidden feature."

She paused over the shattered core of Silvermane, her voice dripping with venom.

"This battle is far from over."

What is she doing? He pushed off the ground, pain shooting up his leg. He had to stop her. His Spider-Sense, still ringing from the fight, now screamed a different warning. A colder, deeper dread.

Amazoness placed her hands on the mangled chrome of Silvermane's chest, on the glowing core. Blue-silver energy pulsed from her palms, pouring into the wreckage.

The shattered chrome began to glow, twitching and expanding. Takuya's Spider-Sense shrieked, a warning of something far beyond his current understanding. He felt a primal fear, a chill that had nothing to do with the damp air of the substation.

This can't be good.

The mangled pieces of Silvermane's body shifted, then began to rebuild. Metal plates slid into place, snapping together with loud CLANGS. Wires reconnected, sparking with raw power. The substation groaned, concrete cracking under unseen pressure.

The ground shook.

Silvermane was growing. Larger. Taller. The robot rebuilt itself, expanding at an impossible rate. Takuya stared, frozen in place, as the hulking figure reached for the ceiling, its form swelling, stretching, breaking through the stone.

Over sixty meters tall. A colossal giant. Its red visor eyes flared, burning with pure, unadulterated power. Amazoness stood atop its head, a tiny, triumphant figure silhouetted against the monstrous Machine BEM.

"The real fight has just begun, Spider-Man!" Amazoness's voice, amplified and distorted, echoed through the cavern. Her chilling laugh followed, a sound that made his blood run cold.

"Now you face the true might of the Iron Cross Army!"

No. This isn't happening.
