Chapter 44 - The World That Watches

đź“– Chapter 44: The World That Watches

The sky felt wrong.

Too quiet.

Too still.

Aren stopped walking.

The wind had disappeared.

Even the air felt… controlled.

"…You're still here."

No response.

But he knew.

Something was watching him.

Not from far away.

Close.

Very close.

Aren's eyes sharpened.

"…Show yourself."

Silence.

Then—

The space in front of him cracked.

Not like glass.

Not like energy.

Like reality itself… tearing.

A shape stepped out.

It wasn't human.

Not completely.

Its form flickered—

unstable.

"…So you're the one," it said.

Its voice didn't echo.

It existed.

Aren didn't move.

"…You were watching me."

The figure tilted its head.

"Watching?"

A pause.

"…No."

It stepped forward.

"Measuring."

The ground beneath Aren felt heavier.

"…Measuring what?" Aren asked.

The figure's form shifted slightly.

"Value."

Silence.

Aren's fist tightened.

"…Then measure this."

Energy gathered instinctively—

sharp—

controlled—

ready.

BOOM!

He moved.

Fast.

A direct strike.

But—

His fist stopped.

Not blocked.

Not dodged.

Just… stopped.

Like space itself refused to let him move further.

Aren's eyes widened.

"…What?"

The figure didn't react.

"…Physical force has no value here."

Aren pulled back slightly.

For the first time—

he hesitated.

"…Then what does?" he asked.

The figure stepped closer.

Too close.

Its presence felt heavier than any opponent before.

"Will."

Silence.

Aren's heartbeat slowed.

"…Will?"

The figure's shape flickered again.

"Not power."

"Not system."

"Not energy."

A pause.

"Only what you choose… matters."

Aren's gaze hardened.

"…Then I choose to fight."

The air trembled.

But this time—

not from power.

From something deeper.

The figure smiled.

For the first time—

a real reaction.

"…Good."

"…You're beginning to understand."

The space around them distorted again.

And the world—

felt like it was changing.
