Chapter 24: The Truth Behind Why the Uchiha Clan Had to Be Destroyed
'Good thing their souls haven't dissipated yet…'
Naruto stood inside the room, looking at the murdered couple on the floor. He reached out and gently pulled their two souls toward him.
A year ago, when he had just learned the so-called "plot," he wouldn't have cared what happened to these two.
But over the past year, he knew very clearly whose hands had prepared the extra onigiri Sasuke brought to school every day.
He had eaten their food. If he did nothing at all, he wouldn't be able to live with himself.
The bodies on the ground were still warm. After a quick check, Naruto stored them away into his soul space. In the next instant, two identical corpses appeared in their place.
However, these replacement bodies were missing their eyes…
This was thanks to the replication ability he had gained from the devoured System. It would last until he recalled the portion of soul power and chakra he had used.
He couldn't replicate the Sharingan eyes, and he definitely didn't want Danzo to dig them out only for the eyes to suddenly vanish or become unusable later. That would definitely raise suspicion.
To be safe, he left behind two eyeless corpses. Once these bodies were buried, he could safely withdraw the soul power and chakra he had used.
Although the whole process left him exhausted, Naruto still had other goals for tonight.
He had no intention of letting the Sharingan go to waste!
Danzo would take some, Uchiha Obito would take some, and even Orochimaru and others would get their share…
So taking a portion for himself shouldn't be a problem, right?
"My foolish little brother…"
Uchiha Itachi's voice came from inside the room. After Naruto finished collecting eyes, he returned and sat outside the door, quietly listening to the conversation between the two brothers.
"Aaaahhh——"
Little Sasuke let out a painful, helpless scream and cry. Unfortunately, no one could help him. He was forced to watch the scene of his parents being killed play out before his eyes.
Naruto curled up against the wall outside, hugging his knees to further reduce his presence, and continued listening to Itachi's hoarse voice.
When Sasuke's roars finally died down, a masked figure appeared at the doorway and gestured for Itachi to leave with him.
"Itachi, do you regret it?"
After walking a few steps, Uchiha Obito stopped and asked while looking at Itachi.
"I don't regret it. Let's go."
Itachi said he had no regrets, but two lines of bloody tears silently slid down from the corners of his eyes.
Who would willingly massacre their own clan?
But if he didn't do it, the Uchiha would be completely wiped out anyway. As for Sasuke…
Their parents could no longer escape. If they fell into certain people's hands, they might not even be allowed to die. Sasuke was still just a child!
All of this could only be borne by him alone. The crime of killing their parents — he would wait for the day Sasuke came to take his revenge. At that time, he would become the sacrifice that pushed Sasuke one step further toward strength.
The moment he left the Uchiha district, Itachi turned back for one last look. His gaze swept across the area where the Anbu and Konoha forces had surrounded the clan grounds. His eyes narrowed slightly before he disappeared into the night.
'So many Anbu and regular ninja troops are here tonight… Now I understand…'
Naruto stood at the doorway and glanced at Sasuke lying unconscious inside the room. He didn't approach. After a quick look, he turned and swiftly left the Uchiha district.
Watching the ninja squads regroup and depart after completing their mission, Naruto finally understood why Itachi hadn't even considered resisting.
The dense crowd of ninja troops, many of them carrying strange weapons. The Anbu and Root members brought in to surround the area.
Even if they fought, there would be heavy sacrifices, but the Uchiha had no chance of winning.
