Chapter 19 – The Aftermath
The silence after him didn't last.
It never does.
Cyrus's group recovered first—confused, angry, embarrassed. But before they could regroup properly, the stranger moved.
Fast.
Not flashy.
Not loud.
Just precise.
One step in.
A twist of the wrist.
The metal rod was gone from Cyrus's grip in seconds.
Next second—someone from the group was on the ground.
Then another.
Then another.
It wasn't even a "fight" in the way they understood it.
It was control.
Like the stranger wasn't reacting to them…
He was finishing them.
Cyrus stepped back, panic breaking through his anger. "Who ARE you?!"
The stranger didn't answer.
He didn't even look satisfied.
Just… done.
In less than a minute, the group was scattered—some on the ground, some stumbling away, some too scared to stay.
And then—
he stopped.
Turned slightly toward JJ.
For half a second.
Just half.
Their eyes met.
Something unspoken passed through that moment—like recognition without explanation.
Then he stepped back.
And disappeared.
Not ran.
Not walked.
Just vanished into the edge of the school corridors like he was never fully there in the first place.
JJ stood still.
Breathing uneven.
The world felt too quiet again.
Then her body finally remembered pain.
---
Walk Back – The Aftermath Hits
By the time JJ left Holy Saint School, the adrenaline had already started fading.
Pain came back slowly.
Her shoulder. Her side. Her wrist.
She walked anyway.
Slow.
Controlled.
But each step was heavier than the last.
"Just reach camp," she muttered to herself. "Just reach—"
Her vision blurred slightly for a second.
She blinked hard.
Kept walking.
Wincing.
And that's when she heard it.
"JJ!"
Multiple voices.
Running footsteps.
Section E.
---
Section E Finds Her
Keifer was the first to reach her.
He stopped instantly when he saw her state.
The way she was holding her arm.
The slight tremor in her step.
The bruise forming already.
His expression changed in a second.
"Who did this?" His voice was low.
JJ tried to wave it off. "It's fine."
Aries reached next, eyes narrowing instantly. "That is NOT fine."
Percy froze completely. No jokes this time. "Baby sistah…"
JJ exhaled. "It's nothing serious."
Felix muttered, "She calls this nothing…"
Rory looked pale. "We should've gone with her."
JJ shook her head slightly. "I told you I'd be fine."
Keifer stepped closer. "You weren't."
That was it.
No anger shouting.
Just certainty.
JJ finally looked up at them.
And for the first time—
her voice softened.
"I ran into Cyrus."
Silence.
Immediate shift.
Aries went still. "That bastard."
Percy's hands clenched. "I should've gone."
JJ continued quietly. "He brought people. They attacked me."
Keifer's jaw tightened. "And you fought them alone."
JJ hesitated.
Then added, "Someone helped."
That made everyone pause.
Felix frowned. "Someone?"
JJ nodded slowly. "A boy. I don't know him. He stopped the rod… fought them… and then just… disappeared."
Rory blinked. "Disappeared?"
JJ nodded again. "He didn't stay."
Aries looked unsettled. "That's not normal."
Keifer didn't speak for a moment.
Then quietly: "Did he hurt you?"
JJ shook her head. "No. He helped."
That didn't fully calm anyone.
If anything, it made it worse.
Because unknown help was still unknown danger.
---
Keifer Loses Patience (Quietly)
JJ took another step forward.
Immediately stumbled.
Keifer caught her without thinking.
Arms around her waist.
Steady.
Firm.
No hesitation this time.
"Idiot," he muttered under his breath.
JJ frowned slightly. "I'm fine."
Keifer looked at her.
Really looked.
"You are not fine."
And before she could argue—
he lifted her.
Easily.
Like it was instinct.
JJ blinked. "Watson—put me down."
"No."
Aries stepped forward instantly. "Keifer."
Keifer didn't even look at him. "She's hurt."
Percy raised his hand slowly. "For once… I agree with Watson."
JJ sighed. "I can walk."
Keifer adjusted his hold slightly. "Not like this."
Silence.
Then softer, lower:
"You don't have to."
JJ stopped arguing after that.
---
The Kiss – Not Loud, Not Dramatic
They started walking back toward camp.
The group followed.
Quiet.
Too quiet.
JJ leaned slightly against Keifer despite herself. Her body was tired now. The fight had drained more than she wanted to admit.
Keifer looked down at her briefly.
His grip tightened slightly—not hurting her, just anchoring her.
"You always do this," he muttered.
"Do what?"
"Act like you don't need anyone."
JJ didn't answer.
Because she didn't know how.
A few steps later, Keifer stopped.
JJ looked up slightly.
"What—"
He kissed her.
Soft.
Not rushed.
Not playful.
Just… careful.
Like he was trying to take something heavy off her without breaking her further.
JJ froze.
No teasing.
No sarcasm.
Just silence.
When he pulled back slightly, his voice was low.
"Don't carry everything alone."
JJ didn't respond.
But she didn't move away either.
And that was new.
---
Everyone Else Reacts (Chaos, Again)
Percy covered his face. "I AM NOT EMOTIONALLY PREPARED FOR THIS ARC."
Aries looked like he was one second away from violence. "Keifer."
Keifer didn't look at him.
Just kept walking.
"Later," he said simply.
Aries: "THAT'S MY SISTER."
Keifer: "I know."
That made it worse somehow.
Felix whispered, "This is insane."
Rory nodded. "We're witnessing character development and emotional damage at the same time."
JJ finally spoke quietly. "Stop arguing."
Everyone paused.
She added, softer:
"I just want to sit."
That shut everyone up instantly.
---
Camp Return – Quiet Storm
Back at camp, JJ was placed carefully on a bench near the tents.
Keifer didn't leave her side.
Aries stayed close but tense.
Percy hovered like a stressed guardian.
Ella quietly brought water without speaking too much.
JJ leaned back slightly, closing her eyes for a second.
Exhausted.
Still processing.
Then she whispered:
"He wasn't normal."
Keifer immediately: "Who?"
"The boy," JJ said. "He wasn't like anyone I've seen."
Silence.
Aries frowned. "We'll figure it out."
Keifer looked at JJ.
Still holding onto anger.
Not at her.
At everything else.
At Cyrus.
At the unknown boy.
At the fact that she keeps getting hurt and keeps pretending she's okay.
He spoke quietly:
"No more going alone."
JJ opened her eyes slightly.
Didn't argue this time.
Just said:
"…okay."
And for once—
no one knew if that was agreement…
or exhaustion.
