Fafnir gathered flames deep in its throat and unleashed them in a ferocious blast.
The instant the fire appeared, the temperature around Adam and the others rose sharply. Ritsuka and her group felt their hearts skip a beat. Getting hit by that wouldn't be funny — it felt like they would be vaporized on contact.
Just as the scorching flames were about to engulf them, Mash stepped forward and casually deployed her Noble Phantasm, completely neutralizing Fafnir's fiery breath.
Behind the safety of Mash's shield, Adam carefully scanned the area, but he didn't see the five Servants he was expecting.
Martha.
Carmilla.
Vlad III.
Chevalier d'Eon.
Atalanta.
He clearly remembered that by this point Jeanne Alter had already summoned five Servants using the Grail. So where were they? He had been looking forward to collecting some interest from them as well.
"Jeanne Alter, didn't you summon five Servants with the Grail? Why didn't they come with you?"
"How could their speed possibly keep up with Fafnir?"
Jeanne Alter snarled viciously as she channeled her magical energy. Flames immediately erupted around her body.
Adam instantly understood the situation. Although Jeanne Alter had indeed summoned those five Servants and ordered them to help destroy the city, they simply couldn't match Fafnir's incredible speed.
Still…
"Then why didn't you have Fafnir carry them along?"
Jeanne Alter's movements faltered for a split second. The flames around her dimmed slightly as she subconsciously considered the idea for the first time.
…It probably would have worked.
"I… none of your damn business!"
Adam, who knew her personality well, saw her expression and understood immediately.
"Oh, so you simply didn't think of it."
Being called out made Jeanne Alter's eyebrow twitch violently. Her already blazing rage burned even hotter.
She leaped down from Fafnir, her weapon blazing with flames, and charged straight toward Adam.
However, just as she tried to break through Mash's defenses, another figure she could never have anticipated stepped in front of her. Their weapons collided with a resounding clash.
Clang!
Blocking Jeanne Alter's black holy sword was a tachi.
Jeanne Alter traced the blade to its wielder and froze completely when she saw her face.
"What?!!!"
The person standing in her way looked exactly like her.
Not similar to the original Jeanne, and not just another case of face collision.
This was identical — except for the outfit…
Same hair color, same eyes, same presence. This was literally her!
"You!!!"
While Jeanne Alter was still stunned, she suddenly felt an overwhelming force surge through their locked weapons, sending her flying backward.
The newly summoned Swimsuit Jeanne Alter was also somewhat confused. She had been quietly savoring memories of her time with Adam when she was suddenly called here. Seeing another "herself" trying to attack Adam, she acted without hesitation.
Although still a bit dazed, she instinctively turned to Adam.
"Adam, what's happening?"
Adam quickly explained the current situation to her.
After hearing everything, Swimsuit Jeanne Alter looked at her past self with an awkward, bitter smile.
"Ugh~ So this is my old dark history…"
Jeanne Alter felt her arm go numb from the impact.
That strength…
She stared at the other version of herself. They looked identical, but their outfits were vastly different.
…Why is this girl using my face to wear something so revealing?
Her mind, already a chaotic mess, was now completely scrambled.
She pointed her black holy sword at Swimsuit Jeanne Alter.
"Hey! What the hell are you supposed to be?!"
Swimsuit Jeanne Alter looked a little reluctant to deal with her past self.
"Ah~ This is such a pain… Just think of me as a version of you from a parallel world — your future self."
Jeanne Alter blinked, clearly confused.
"Parallel world? Future? What are you even talking about?"
"If you're really the future me, then you should be standing on my side — the past me!"
"Why are you standing with them instead?"
She pointed her sword toward Adam's group.
Why indeed?
The reason was actually very simple. But asking Swimsuit Jeanne Alter to say it out loud in front of everyone…
She glanced back at Adam without speaking, but her meaning was already very clear.
Adam, however, found the entire scene quite entertaining and decided to add some heavy fuel to the fire.
"Want to know why? Then allow me to show you."
He stepped in front of Swimsuit Jeanne Alter.
Under Jeanne Alter's dumbfounded gaze, Adam gently lifted Swimsuit Jeanne Alter's chin and kissed her deeply.
Swimsuit Jeanne Alter made a half-hearted attempt to resist, but her body's instinctive response told the whole story.
Jeanne Alter watched the intimate scene between Adam and her other self and completely froze.
Mash shyly covered her eyes with both hands, yet left large gaps between her fingers so she could keep peeking.
The rest of the group wore identical expressions of pure shock: "Huh???"
The other Mash simply made her usual "this is getting ridiculous" face at the familiar sight.
In her mind, Jeanne Alter was one of her greatest rivals.
Adam had been steadily raising his bond levels with nearly all his Servants. Many of the female Servants had extremely high bonds with him.
However, he usually didn't take the initiative to cross that final line — there were simply too many women around him.
Jeanne Alter had been one of the few who managed to make him take the first step.
Watching Adam kiss the other version of herself more and more passionately, Jeanne Alter felt a strange sensation stirring in her own body, as if she herself were the one being kissed.
For a brief moment, she actually felt a pang of envy toward the Swimsuit version who was being held so tenderly.
It took a long while before Adam finally released her.
Swimsuit Jeanne Alter breathed heavily, a faint blush coloring her cheeks and hearts floating in her eyes. She shyly averted her gaze, too embarrassed to look directly at him.
"N-Next time… at least don't do it in front of so many people."
Then she swallowed in a savoring motion.
Adam looked at her with satisfaction before turning his attention back to Jeanne Alter, who was still standing there completely stunned, her mind clearly somewhere else.
"Yeah. That's exactly the reason."
"She has already claimed her own future with me."
Only then did Jeanne Alter snap back to reality. She unconsciously licked the corner of her mouth. Realizing how pathetic she must look right now, she became strangely furious. How much of that fury was actually jealousy was anyone's guess.
In any case, she put on an expression of extreme disgust.
"D-Don't be ridiculous! I would never… never accept something like that!"
She waved at Fafnir. "Fafnir!" She redirected the dragon's target toward Swimsuit Jeanne Alter.
"Make that annoying fake disappear!"
Fafnir had finished charging its flames once again.
Swimsuit Jeanne Alter shot Fafnir a sharp, intimidating glare.
"Fafnir, you've gotten bold enough to attack me now?!!"
The dragon immediately choked back its breath in fear.
Recognizing the familiar face and presence, Fafnir instinctively chose self-preservation.
But Jeanne Alter wasn't having any of it. She jumped onto Fafnir's head.
"Hey! Fafnir, I'm your real Master! Listen to me!!"
She tried to override the dragon's will and force it to unleash its breath.
But the moment the flames gathered again—
"You dare!!!"
Another stern rebuke from Swimsuit Jeanne Alter made Fafnir swallow the attack once more.
"Cough… cough…"
Fafnir coughed out thick clouds of black smoke.
After having its own breath backfire in its throat twice, the dragon's eyes nervously darted back and forth between the two Jeanne Alters.
In the end, Fafnir chose to completely give up.
You two fight it out yourselves. Please, just leave this poor little dragon alone.
Fafnir went on full strike.
"Hey, Fafnir!"
Jeanne Alter still refused to believe it and tried once more to force the dragon to attack, but Fafnir remained completely unresponsive.
Seeing the dragon on strike and assessing Adam's side's combat strength, Jeanne Alter realized she stood no chance of winning right now. The Swimsuit version was clearly stronger than her.
With Fafnir refusing to cooperate, she chose the wisest option — a tactical retreat.
Fafnir may have stopped attacking, but it could still fly.
Jeanne Alter quickly steered the dragon and fled in the direction she had come from. Fafnir's speed was impressive; in the blink of an eye, they had already become a tiny speck in the distance.
"She really ran fast~"
Adam muttered as he watched them disappear.
His mind turned to another Servant closely connected to Fafnir.
"Next… it's Gilles de Rais's turn~"
