Kael awoke to a silence heavier than the darkest voids of the Nightmare Realm. The shard's remnants throbbed faintly in his veins, a constant reminder of the cost he had paid. Something moved in the corner of his mind — a presence older than the world, ancient and infinite.
"You seek power," it said, voice resonating like a dozen echoes layered atop each other. "And yet you tremble at the price."
Kael's grip tightened on his blade. "Who are you?"
"I am the Watcher," the entity replied, shapes flickering in the periphery of his vision. "I see all fates. Every choice, every path, every consequence. I offer you one thing: true power… or the preservation of your self."
The words weighed him down. Kael knew this was more than a test; it was a reckoning. He stepped forward and found himself at the entrance of a Shadow Labyrinth, corridors shifting like liquid, walls folding and unfolding based on his intent. Each choice sent ripples through the realm, every step shaping both his destiny and the shadows around him.
A voice whispered from the shadows: "Choose wisely… or all is lost."
Kael advanced cautiously. He could feel the shard's lingering energy urging him to reach for ultimate power, promising dominion over fate itself. Yet a small part of him — the part that remembered the warmth of sunlight, laughter, and fleeting peace — pleaded for restraint.
At the heart of the labyrinth, Kael faced a mirror of himself, shadowed and twisted. The Watcher's voice echoed again: "Will you embrace the shadows fully… or preserve the fragments that remain?"
Kael hesitated, then made his decision. He grasped the shard's essence, letting the shadows entwine with his own. The labyrinth responded violently, paths shifting, walls crumbling, as if the world itself was judging him. He felt the surge of power, intoxicating and overwhelming, yet somewhere in the depths, a small part of him recoiled at what he had done.
A shadow hissed beside him, whispering threats of rebellion. Kael's lips curved into a grim smile. Whatever the cost, he would pay it.
