"So, Shin and Momo!" Aizawa inquired. "Any doubts?"
Shin blinked once, then twice, before glancing at Momo, who mirrored his reaction. The moment their eyes met, they burst into laughter, completely disregarding the confused stares of everyone around them. Their classmates and teachers watched in bewilderment, unable to comprehend what was so amusing.
Now, neither Shin nor Momo could be blamed for their reaction. When they first heard the term ultimate move, they had envisioned something grand and awe-inspiring. But after hearing the teachers' explanation, they realized that this so-called ultimate move was merely how the inhabitants of this plane defined the skill-splitting phenomenon in their own way. Essentially, any new skill developed by the people here was automatically classified as an ultimate move of their quirk, rather than being recognized as something entirely new derived from their original quirk. Well, they couldn't really be blamed for it—after all, they lacked the TrueSoul.
As their laughter subsided, Midnight frowned in confusion. "What's so funny about this? I don't recall us saying anything that could be considered a joke."
Shin regained his usual composure and replied, "The reason we laughed is that, unknowingly, we have already created numerous ultimate moves—at least by the definition you have given us. We simply hadn't realized at the time that they were classified as such."
"You see, we had believed ourselves to be far behind compared to our classmates," Momo added, blending both truth and deception—something she had recently started to pick up from her boyfriend. "But now, we've come to understand that, rather than lagging behind, we are actually ahead of them."
"Oh… oh… wait, what?!" All Might exclaimed, his shock evident. "You're telling me you've already created ultimate moves? And from the way you're speaking, it sounds like you have developed multiple of them. Is that true? How?"
"Yes, that is correct. We have more than one ultimate move," Momo confirmed, nodding in agreement. "Personally, I have about four—not counting the ability I obtained after my quirk awakening. And Shin has even more than I do."
All Might, Aizawa, and Midnight simply stared at them in stunned silence, their expressions frozen in awe. However, their classmates reacted differently. They seemed almost numb to such revelations when it came to Shin, their faces reflecting an unspoken sentiment—As expected of him. What irked Momo slightly, though, was that her own accomplishments were being attributed to him rather than to herself. Still, she chose not to take offense, instead attributing it to their ignorance.
All Might was the first to snap out of his daze, a realization suddenly hitting him. His voice carried a hint of trepidation as he asked, "Momo… did you just say that you have awakened your quirk?"
Before Momo could respond, Shin spoke in her stead. "Yes, she did. And not just her—I, too, have accomplished that. Why?"
At this, Aizawa and Midnight finally recovered from their own states of shock, their expressions now clouded with confusion. Stepping forward, Midnight furrowed her brows and inquired, "What exactly is this quirk awakening you're talking about?"
All Might, noticing the confused expressions on both his colleagues and most of the students gathered, realized that the cat was out of the bag. Quirk awakening was a highly classified topic, known only to a select few. And here he had foolishly spoken about it in front of so many people. He now had a choice—either divert the conversation elsewhere or reveal the truth outright. In the end, he opted for the latter. Not because he particularly wanted to, but because he knew that, even if he chose to keep it secret, there was a high chance that either Shin or Momo would reveal it anyway. In that case, there was little point in hiding it.
Shaking his head with a sigh, All Might finally spoke. "Quirk awakening is an event where a quirk develops an entirely new ability. Unlike ultimate moves, which are created through rigorous training, these abilities manifest suddenly, without prior warning. Sometimes, the awakened ability may be completely unrelated to the original quirk. Other times, it complements or enhances it. Regardless of the outcome, when a quirk awakens, both the quirk itself and the user's overall abilities improve dramatically—it can feel as though you've entered an entirely new league of power."
He allowed a brief pause before continuing. "According to the research conducted so far, quirk awakenings are driven by desire—the overwhelming drive of the quirk user. However, there are very few recorded cases of quirk awakenings, which means research on this phenomenon is extremely limited." His voice grew heavier. "From what I know, fewer than ten people—including myself—have awakened their quirks in Japan."
The room remained silent as everyone processed this revelation. After a moment, All Might turned his gaze toward a particular individual before continuing, "I'll use my own experience to explain it better. My quirk is based on super strength. But my quirk awakening granted me the ability to transform into the muscular form you've all seen me in. In my case, this new ability complemented my quirk, allowing me to use my strength more freely without the risk of destroying my own body."
The weight of his words sank into the room. The students, along with Aizawa and Midnight, took a moment to fully digest the information. And when they finally did, their eyes instinctively shifted toward Shin and Momo—now filled with a newfound sense of respect.
"Well, that was some heavy information," Aizawa finally spoke, breaking the silence. "But let's set that aside for now. Since you both already have so many ultimate moves, you could help the other students by giving them some ideas for their own."
Shin gave a nod of agreement. "We'll do that."
Then, turning to Momo, he spoke to her telepathically. [You should focus on helping them use their new skills efficiently through support items or other enhancements, while I'll handle helping them develop new skills. Of course, if you have any ideas for them, feel free to share.]
[Mhm. Will do.] Momo smirked, her eyes gleaming with anticipation. [Let's make them so strong that they'll shock everyone with their capabilities. After all, we both know that you and I will pass the examination easily—but it would be far more satisfying if we helped our classmates achieve the same.]
[Exactly. Let's make it so their performance leaves everyone speechless.] Shin responded with equal enthusiasm.
With their silent exchange complete, Shin turned toward his classmates and announced, "Everyone, start training individually. Momo and I will come to each of you one by one—I'll advise you on ultimate moves, while Momo will take note of any support items you might need."
At his words, the students wasted no time dispersing across the gym, each moving to different areas to begin training. Ectoplasm created numerous clones to serve as sparring partners, ensuring that no one would be left idle.
Sharing one last glance, Shin and Momo then split up—Shin heading toward one of the men first, while Momo made her way to one of the women.
…
Shin approached Iida, who was locked in combat with one of Ectoplasm's clones, delivering rapid, precise kicks. As Shin arrived, Ectoplasm halted the fight, allowing Iida to listen to his friend.
Stepping forward, Shin asked, "What ultimate moves do you currently have?"
Iida listed two techniques, both primarily focused on increasing his speed—one providing a short burst of acceleration, while the second extended the duration of that burst.
"And your fighting style mostly revolves around kicks," Shin noted, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. Iida nodded in affirmation.
"We need to add some variety, something with a bit more crowd control," Shin mused.
"I've thought about diversifying," Iida admitted, "but I haven't been able to come up with any good ideas."
Shin's eyes glinted with curiosity. "Can you go supersonic?"
"No, not even close. If I push myself to the absolute limit, I can probably reach a tenth of that speed."
"Do you want to reach supersonic?" Shin pressed.
"Of course, I do! But even my brother, at his prime, never achieved that…" Iida's voice faltered, a hint of sorrow surfacing as he recalled his brother's current condition.
Shin crossed his arms and gave him a firm look. "Your brother would be proud if you surpassed what even he couldn't achieve. You could make the name Ingenium resound across the world as the fastest hero. So, aim higher, Iida. Break through your limits. Go Plus Ultra, as All Might says." Then, with a teasing smirk, he added, "Though, don't get too cocky—you still have to surpass me first. If you want to compete with me, your first step is reaching the starting point of supersonic speed."
"You know, if you undergo quirk awakening—like All Might mentioned—you might gain the ability to go supersonic," Shin remarked. "It all comes down to desire. If you want it enough, your quirk may evolve to match that ambition."
After a brief moment of thought, Shin suddenly brightened. "Actually, I've got two ultimate move ideas for you."
Iida listened intently as Shin explained, "First, start training by accelerating in a circle. The rapid movement will generate a whirlwind around you—something like a small cyclone. This could deflect incoming projectiles and knock back opponents."
Iida nodded, slowly processing the concept.
"The second one involves spinning rapidly while moving at high speed. Done correctly, this would create a tornado-like effect that sucks in nearby opponents, immobilizing them. It could serve as a setup for a follow-up attack by you or your allies."
A realization dawned on Iida as he grasped the full potential of these techniques. His eyes shone with newfound enthusiasm. "These are brilliant ideas, Shin! Thank you!"
"Don't mention it." Shin grinned and moved on to the next student—Jiro.
…
As he approached, he was surprised to find her repeatedly stabbing a cement mountain with her earphone jacks. His brows furrowed in confusion.
"Hey, Jiro… what the hell are you doing?" he asked, utterly perplexed.
Jiro turned to face him, "Oh, Shin. I'm trying to strengthen the durability of my jacks," she explained. "Like how people toughen up their bodies by taking hits repeatedly."
Shin stared at her, dumbfounded. "Jiro… your earphone jacks are part of your quirk. What you're doing isn't improving them—it's just giving you constant pain. If you want to strengthen a part of your quirk, you should train your quirk as a whole rather than… this." He gestured at her self-imposed suffering.
Jiro froze, blinking as if she had just been hit by a realization. "Wait… so this isn't helping me at all?"
"Well," Shin shrugged, "you are getting used to pain, so… there's that?" He attempted to offer some form of consolation.
Jiro groaned, burying her face in her hands. "I… I don't even want to hear it. I can't believe I wasted so much time on this."
"Hey, don't get all depressed now." Shin smirked. "Actually, your weird training gave me inspiration for one of your ultimate moves."
Jiro's frustration vanished in an instant. "Wait, really?!" she asked, instantly perking up. "I only have one ultimate move so far, and it's just using my jacks to send sound waves at opponents."
"Right, so listen to this." Shin crossed his arms. "Instead of just directing your sound waves at opponents, why not channel them into the ground to create a localized earthquake?"
Jiro's eyes widened as she considered the idea.
"That's not all," Shin continued. "You could also send vibrations into your own body to enhance your blood flow and natural regeneration. This could temporarily boost your strength, speed, and endurance."
Jiro's mouth hung open slightly as she absorbed the information.
"Or," Shin added with a grin, "you could train to remove sound from your movements entirely. Paired with your enhanced hearing, you'd become an incredible infiltrator—able to move undetected while gathering intel."
A moment of silence passed before Jiro suddenly beamed, her previous gloom completely forgotten.
"These… these ideas are amazing!" she exclaimed, already eager to test them out. Without another word, she dove into training with renewed enthusiasm. Shin smirked at this and moved onto the next one.
…
Shin made his way toward an area where intense bursts of fire and ice collided, the chaotic mixture of elements signalling that Todoroki was training there.
Noticing Shin's approach, Todoroki immediately paused his training and walked over, his usual serious expression in place. "Do you have any advice for me?" he asked directly.
Shin crossed his arms, contemplating for a moment before replying, "You should try combining your fire and ice."
Todoroki raised an eyebrow. "Combine them? How?"
"Well, since your quirk is literally Half-Hot, Half-Cold, you should theoretically be able to merge both elements together with enough practice."
Todoroki's eyes contracted slightly in thought. "You mean, like, using them at the same time?"
Shin shook his head. "No, I mean truly merging them—creating something entirely new. Imagine an icy flame, something that I'd bet would appear white in color. It would possess both the freezing power of ice and the fluidity of fire."
Todoroki's gaze turned serious, "Is that even possible?"
"Yes," Shin affirmed. "But it won't be easy. Fire and ice are opposing forces, so forcing them to coexist within a single form will require insane control. Plus, if you mess up and create an unstable mixture, it could lead to an explosion—so be very careful when experimenting with this."
Todoroki absorbed the information, nodding in understanding. "And what else?"
"You could also try developing flaming ice—basically, concentrating your fire within a solid block of ice. If done correctly, the ice would retain its form while radiating intense heat, creating a devastating combination."
Todoroki deliberated this, his mind racing with the possibilities. After a brief pause, he looked back at Shin and gave a respectful bow. "Thank you. I'll work on it."
Shin smirked. "Don't thank me just yet. If you really want to show your gratitude, pass the Provisional Hero License Exam."
Todoroki straightened up and gave a nod. "I will."
With that, Shin continued making his rounds, moving from student to student, offering advice, refining their techniques, and suggesting ways to unlock new moves.
But this wasn't just about helping them. As he observed and guided his classmates, he was also learning from them—understanding the different ways quirks could evolve, discovering creative new techniques, and even drawing inspiration for his own abilities. And that was what Shin loved about teaching. Because by pushing others to reach their highest potential, he, too, continued to grow.
…
Finally, after about two hours, Shin arrived at the last student's training area—where none other than All Might himself was instructing.
It was Izuku Midoriya, the successor of All Might and the current wielder of One For All. From initially struggling to use his Quirk properly, he had now reached a point where he could wield 50% of it without sustaining any damage. He even seemed to have the greatest number of Ultimate Moves—most of them copied from All Might, though some were his own creations.
Shin approached and greeted both Izuku and All Might, who returned his greeting as they turned to face him.
"Well, it looks like you're doing well," Shin said to Izuku.
"Yeah! I've created a lot of Ultimate Moves," Izuku said proudly.
"Yes, and most of them are copied from All Might. First, you take All Might's Quirk, and now you take his moves? Have some shame," Shin remarked.
Izuku, at first, had the sense to feel embarrassed by Shin's words, but when the second line registered, he stiffened, clearly caught off guard. "What... are you talking about?" he asked, feigning ignorance.
Shin turned to All Might and voiced his thoughts. "You didn't tell him?"
All Might looked slightly embarrassed. "I... kinda forgot." Then, turning to Izuku, he sighed. "No need to hide it from him. He already knows."
"How...??" Izuku asked, eyes wide in surprise.
"Well, don't ask me. He said he figured it out just by analysing our behavior," All Might replied, attempting to move past the topic.
Seeing his discomfort, Shin considered pushing further but ultimately held back. "I came here to help him create more moves, but after seeing how well he's already using your quirk, I don't think I will."
As Shin gave Izuku a once-over, an idea suddenly formed in his mind. Could he use this chance to interact with that person? This was his best opportunity yet. And he could easily conceal his true intentions by framing it as an attempt to unlock some of the quirks Izuku had yet to access.
That's right—Izuku Midoriya had multiple quirks within him. The most logical explanation was that they belonged to the previous wielders of One For All. This meant that the quirk didn't just transfer from one user to another; it also carried with it the past wielders' abilities. Another connection between One For All and All For One's quirk.
Since neither Izuku nor All Might had been able to use these dormant Quirks, it was clear that certain conditions had to be met before they could be accessed. Still, Shin was certain that it was the vestiges of the previous wielders—their lingering Eths—that were preventing them from being used. Fortunately, he had absolute confidence in his ability to remove these vestiges.
This wouldn't have been possible had he not already awakened his own Quirk and gained the skill Spiritual Influence, which allowed his Force Energy to interact with spiritual entities. After some experimentation, he had completely integrated this skill into his Force Pulse, granting him the ability to not only perceive the very souls of living beings but also interact with them.
And he wasn't just restricted to souls—he could influence other spiritual forces, including different types of energy. But since this world didn't have any ambient energy like Qi floating around, that aspect wasn't particularly useful. However, it did make it far easier for him to detect when someone was using Ki for their Quirks.
This enhancement, however, came at a cost—since he didn't copy the Spiritual Influence skill but transferred it entirely into Force Pulse, he had lost access to the original version he had gained from his Quirk awakening. But the trade-off was worth it. If he had chosen to merely copy it instead, he had a strong feeling he wouldn't have fully unlocked the interaction aspect.
