## CHAPTER FIFTY EIGHT
### What Feng Luo Found
On the second morning in Raohe Feng Luo woke before the light and went back to the section.
Not to practice. To look.
He had been thinking about the transformation. What the section had done with his directed heat application. The frequency had changed — taken in, processed, elevated. The section had not received the input passively. It had done something with it.
He stood at the section's edge in the pre-dawn and held the Flame Blade and read.
The thermal signature had continued developing overnight. Four weeks of consistent input from the elder and the other village practitioners and it was still accelerating. The ceiling of what the section could achieve was not yet visible.
He thought about that.
The seeding effect lasted forty years. The acceleration from consistent frequency input was still building after four weeks. If it continued building — if the ceiling was high enough — the section at its peak would be significantly beyond pre-damage baseline levels.
Not restoration. Improvement.
He thought about the eastern Dragon Sect sections Xian Yue had identified. The same pattern. Thirty percent density increase. Still growing.
He thought about the original combination's seeding effect. The one hundred and forty three years ago version. The sections in Ice Sect's outer territory that had shown elevated density for forty years and then declined as the corruption rebuilt.
He drew the Flame Blade and held the directed heat application.
Controlled. Precise. The narrow focused quality that the cross-absorption had given him.
He pointed it at the section's interior.
The section responded. Not to the temperature — the temperature was negligible at this distance. To the frequency. The specific signature of the directed heat application, the combined quality of Vermilion fire and the Lost Blade's unnamed color cross-absorption.
The section registered it differently from the elder's exercises.
He pulled the application back before it went too far.
He sat down on the field's edge and thought.
---
At the morning meal he said: "The section responds differently to my application than to the village practices."
Jian Yu looked at him.
"The elder's exercises and the shrine families' practices — they're ordinary cultivation. Long-term, consistent, real. But ordinary." Feng Luo was looking at his hands. "My application carries the cross-absorption signature. The combination's specific frequency. The section recognizes it."
"How," Lin Mei said.
"The seeding effect came from the combination," Feng Luo said. "The seeds carry the combination's frequency signature. When I apply the directed heat — which also carries the combination's frequency from the cross-absorption — it's like the section hears something in its own language." He paused. "It responds more completely. Faster. At a different depth than ordinary cultivation input reaches."
Jian Yu looked at the section.
"You can accelerate it directly," he said.
"Yes," Feng Luo said. "More effectively than the elder's forty years of morning exercises. Not because I'm more powerful — because my application carries a frequency the section recognizes specifically."
"The cross-absorbed swords," Bing Xi said. She had the Frostbite Edge drawn. "All five sword applications after the combination carry the combination's frequency in some form. The Frostbite cross-absorption. The Flame directed heat. The Dragon geometric compression." She was reading. "If all of them are effective — if each sword's cross-absorbed application communicates in the section's specific language—"
"Then the five wielders can actively cultivate the seeding effect," Lin Mei said. "Not just wait for it to develop on its own."
"How much faster," Jian Yu said.
Feng Luo thought about it. "At the rate I read — maybe three times faster than ordinary input." He paused. "But I don't know what the ceiling is. I don't know if active application changes the ceiling or just the rate of reaching it."
Jian Yu looked at the field. At the elder doing his morning exercises at the southern edge, unaware that the field was discussing him.
He sent a message to Li Shan.
He did not wait for the response before saying: "We need to test it properly. All three swords we have here. Systematic application at measured intervals. Bing Xi reads the response rate. Lin Mei documents the frequency analysis."
"How long," Feng Luo said.
"Three days," Jian Yu said. "Then we have data Li Shan can use."
"Three days in Raohe," Feng Luo said.
"Yes," Jian Yu said.
Feng Luo looked at the section with the forward-committed quality that had been his characteristic energy since the waypoint shelter. "The village is going to notice," he said.
"Yes," Jian Yu said. "They are."
"What do we tell them," Feng Luo said.
Jian Yu looked at the elder. At the field. At the specific quality of a place that had been quietly doing the right things for forty years without being told those things were significant.
"The truth," he said. "All of it. They deserve to know what their practices have been doing."
Feng Luo nodded. "I'll talk to the elder this morning."
He stood and walked toward the practice site.
Jian Yu watched him go.
He thought about what it meant that the five sword wielders could actively cultivate the seeding effect. The combination seeded. The wielders tended. The sections grew faster and potentially higher than passive development alone would produce.
This had not been in any documentation. Not in Lin Dao's journal. Not in Mo Xuan's research. Not in the Ice Sect archive's historical records.
Because no one who had done the combination had understood what the cross-absorbed sword properties could do in the outer range sections.
Because in the one hundred and forty three year gap there had been no wielders to do anything.
He drew the Lost Blade.
The unnamed color caught the morning light and returned it in the between.
He walked to the section's edge and held the sword toward the interior and let it read.
The section recognized it immediately. The combination's frequency in the unnamed color — the between quality, the specific thing that made the sword what it was — registered in the seeded pathways as something familiar.
He held the sword steady and let it communicate.
The section responded.
Not dramatically. The specific quiet quality of something that had been waiting for a signal and had received one. The frequency in the pathways adjusted slightly — not toward the unnamed color's quality, but toward an integration of it alongside everything else the section was already holding.
The between finding a place between the other frequencies.
Of course it did.
He counted his breaths.
One through nine.
He kept the sword steady and let the section work.
---
Li Shan's response arrived at midday.
*Confirmed. The cascade data shows the Raohe section responding to the Lost Blade's application at a rate 3.7 times above baseline. I have checked three other seeded sections in the outer range. All three show elevated response rates when cultivation input occurs near them. The Raohe section's rate is higher because the Lost Blade's unnamed color cross-absorption carries the most complete frequency signature of the five swords.*
*If the five wielders systematically apply their cross-absorbed properties to seeded sections the development rate increases by a factor of approximately three to four. The ceiling also changes. I am calculating. Initial estimate: sections with active wielder cultivation reach approximately 1.8 times historical peak density.*
*Not restoration. Not 1.0 baseline. 1.8.*
*I need all five wielders in systematically chosen sections within the next growing season. This is not documentation for the archive. This is an active opportunity that has a window.*
*How quickly can you reach Feng Luo and Xian Yue. Bing Xi is already there. Lin Mei is already there. You are already there.*
*Where is Xian Yue.*
Jian Yu read the message twice.
Then he sent a message to Xian Yue.
Her response came back in three hours. She was in the eastern liaison territory. Two days from Raohe.
He sent a message to the relay network for Feng Luo to reach her through the Dragon Sect channel. Faster than the standard relay.
Then he went back to the section and held the sword and kept communicating.
The between finding the spaces between everything else.
That was what it was always for.
