"This bag is full of charms for your team," Catherine explained, handing a heavy satchel to Ninong Jeff. "They will protect your officers from spells and curses. It's vital they carry them at all times—our enemy is no ordinary serial killer."
Ninong Jeff took the bag, the weight of the hex bags clinking inside. "And what about Jin Ae? What's the plan to stop your friend?"
Catherine's expression clouded with a mix of grief and determination. "We're still looking for a way to reach her, Ninong. But for now, your men must stay away from her at all costs. No matter what happens, do not engage. Let the hex bags be your shield."
As they spoke, Jasmine's head snapped toward a dark corner. A faint, raspy whisper had drifted past her ear. She turned, squinting into the shadows, but saw nothing but empty air.
"Who's there?" Jasmine demanded. She moved toward a narrow, damp alley where the voice seemed to be beckoning her.
"Help me..." a woman's voice sobbed, barely audible.
Jasmine stepped further into the dark. Suddenly, a figure manifested before her. Jasmine let out a piercing scream—the woman's face was a jagged mask of raw wounds and dripping blood.
"Jasmine! What happened?" Catherine cried out, rushing into the alley. Ninong Jeff's officers drew their weapons, alarmed by the scream, but they stopped at the entrance, scratching their heads. To them, the alley was completely empty.
"Why are you screaming?" Catherine asked, reaching her friend's side.
"I see her... a ghost," Jasmine gasped, her finger trembling as she pointed at the mangled spirit only she could perceive.
Catherine sighed, though her eyes remained alert. "How many times have I told you not to engage with every spirit you meet? Ask her why she's seeking you out."
Ninong Jeff stepped in, looking confused. "Wait—why can't you see her? Aren't you the leader of the witches?"
"Spirits are like the living, Ninong," Catherine explained calmly. "They choose who they reveal themselves to. It seems this one has a specific connection to Jasmine."
Jasmine's eyes grew wide as the ghost leaned closer, whispering a final, horrific truth. "She was... she was killed by the serial killer," Jasmine managed to choke out.
The weight of the spiritual energy became too much. Jasmine's knees buckled, and the world went black.
"Jasmine!" Catherine caught her before she hit the pavement.
"Medics! Now!" Ninong Jeff barked to his men. "Get a gurney over here and get her into the ambulance!"
The Mission to Santa Barbara
Back at the training grounds, the air grew heavy as the truth about Jin Ae began to settle in. Ethan and the others stood in stunned silence, unable to reconcile the friend they knew with the serial killer being described.
"This has happened before," Calista said, her gaze distant. "A child of Lilith once chose the light."
"Who are you talking about, Mom?" Ethan asked.
Nana Esther stepped forward to answer. "Cristine. She was born of Lilith's blood, but the Bellators guided her. The Sisters of Light performed a baptism of light to purge the darkness from her soul."
"The Inspector Red?" Akihiko asked, recognizing the name from the old legends.
"The very same," Nana Amelia confirmed.
Baekhyun's face set with determination. "Then there's still hope. If I can convince my sister to stop, we can take her to the Sisters of Light. We can perform the baptism on her, too."
Kaito looked down, his expression pained. "We have a problem with that plan, Baekhyun."
"What do you mean?"
"The Convent of the Sisters of Light... it was destroyed during the Great War," Kaito admitted, his voice low. "Senior Lucas tried to save them, but... I was the one who led the attack."
"Don't carry that burden alone, Kaito," Calista added softly. "There was a massive earthquake the day the war broke out. Lucas and I saw it happen—the earth itself seemed to swallow the church."
Baekhyun's heart sank. "So... is there no other way?"
"Do not lose heart just yet," Nana Amelia said. "I know of a survivor. Sister Marisa, one of Cristine's closest confidants. She was a nun at the convent when the black wolves attacked."
"But where would we even start looking for her?" Akihiko asked.
"In Santa Barbara, to the east," Nana Amelia replied. "She stayed behind near the ruins of the convent."
"I can give you the coordinates," Nana Esther added, though her voice carried a warning.
Calista stepped into their circle, her expression grave. "Be careful. Santa Barbara is no longer the holy place it once was. After the convent fell, a curse settled over the land like a fog. The villagers were all changed by it. I haven't been back to check if the curse was ever lifted."
"We have to go," Baekhyun said, his voice firm.
"Right now?" Ethan asked, looking at the setting sun.
"Every minute we wait, the body count rises," Baekhyun replied. "We have to stop her."
"What about us?" Zac and Daisuke asked, stepping forward to help.
Akihiko shook his head. "You two stay here. When Catherine and Jasmine return, tell them where we've gone. We need eyes on this place."
"Aki is right," Baekhyun agreed. "Even with the protection spells, we need someone here to hold the line."
With a final look at their friends, the group turned toward the east, heading for the cursed ruins of Santa Barbara—unaware of what horrors were waiting for them in the mist.
The Curse of Santa Barbara
Inside a small, weathered hut on the outskirts of the ruins, Sister Marisa sat in her creaking rocking chair, her eyes closed as she whispered a quiet prayer. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and something sweet—like rotting fruit.
"Sister Marisa?" a soft, familiar voice called out.
The old nun's eyes snapped open. Standing in the doorway was a young woman dressed in the habit of their order. "Sister Maricar?" Marisa's voice trembled. "How... how are you here? You've been gone for so long..."
Marisa started to reach out, but as she looked closer, she noticed something was wrong. Sister Maricar wasn't walking; she was gliding. Her skin looked like grey parchment stretched too tight over bone, and her eyes were wide, reflecting a dark, predatory hunger.
Before Marisa could finish her sentence, the young nun's jaw unhinged with a sickening crack. Her fingernails lengthened into jagged black talons, and her shadow seemed to stretch across the walls like a living thing.
"A—Aswang!" Sister Marisa screamed, her voice breaking in the silent night.
RIGHT NOW...
Two weeks had passed since Jin Ae first laid the trap for Mary Hidalgo. She had played the part of the eager investor perfectly, "wiring" the money as promised, but the woman had since gone silent. No calls, no emails—just the predictable behavior of a fraudster who thought she had found an easy target.
Jin Ae sat at the edge of the bed, the glow of her phone illuminating her face in the early morning dark. Beside her, the sheets shifted as Izaac stirred. When he saw her, he leaned over and pressed a warm kiss to her lips.
"Hey, you're awake already?" Jin Ae asked, her voice softening into her "Anne" persona.
"Mmm, yeah," Izaac murmured. "What time is it?"
"Too early," she replied playfully. She reached over, pulling the blanket up to cover his face to tease him, before turning her attention back to her phone. Still nothing from Mary.
"Still no response to your emails or texts?" Izaac asked from beneath the covers.
"None," Jin Ae said. She looked at the picture of Mary Hidalgo on her screen—the woman was smiling, oblivious to the fact that her time was running out. Jin Ae's lips curled into a mischievous, predatory smile. "I think it's time I go and get my 'change' from her."
Izaac pulled the blanket down, misinterpreting the fire in her eyes for something else. "Enough with the stress, babe. I have a better idea for how to get your mind off of business."
He pulled her closer, pressing a passionate kiss against her neck and then her lips, trying to drown out the world outside. Jin Ae leaned into him, letting him believe he was in control, even as her mind began to sharpen the blade for her next move.
This scene is a great turning point! We're seeing Jasmine tap into her prophetic abilities, and the connection between Kaito's past and the present day in Santa Barbara adds a lot of emotional depth.
I've polished the dialogue and the atmosphere to make the "Oracle" moment with Jasmine feel more supernatural and the arrival at Santa Barbara more tense.
The Prophecy and the Cursed Land
Jasmine bolted upright in the ambulance, a piercing scream tearing from her throat. Catherine, prepared for this, immediately pressed a pen and a sheet of paper into her friend's trembling hands.
Jasmine didn't speak. Her eyes were vacant as her hand moved with frantic, unnatural speed, lines blurring together until an image took shape. Catherine and Ninong Jeff leaned in, staring at the finished drawing in stunned silence.
"A church... and the number thirteen?" Catherine whispered.
"What does it mean?" Ninong Jeff asked, his hand resting on his holster.
"Calista warned us about this," Catherine said, her voice tight. "Saesbyeol needs the blood of thirteen sinners to tear open the portal to Hell." She turned back to her friend, whose breath was coming in shallow gasps. "Jasmine, the church... what about the church?"
Jasmine's eyes suddenly turned a solid, milky white. A localized gale swept through the ambulance, fluttering the papers as she spoke in a voice that wasn't entirely her own. "At the church, a soul will be sacrificed. Because of one woman, the Sisters of Light shall rise again from the ashes."
"Is she speaking in riddles?" Ninong Jeff asked, shielding his eyes from the wind.
"It's a prophecy," Catherine realized. "Ethan and the others are walking right into it. We have to move!"
The Gates of Santa Barbara
Meanwhile, the "Welcome to Santa Barbara" sign loomed out of the mist like a headstone. Ethan, Baekhyun, Akihiko, and Kaito stepped into the village, feeling the weight of a thousand eyes upon them.
"The way they're looking at us..." Baekhyun murmured, his skin crawling. "It's like they want to devour us."
"That's because they aren't human," Kaito said, his voice dropping an octave. "We are in a nest of Aswangs."
Ethan glanced at him, startled. "How can you be so sure?"
"I made a deal with their kind during the war. I never forget that scent."
As they moved through the square, an old man detached himself from the shadows. He hobbled toward them, his eyes fixed on Kaito. "Sir... Sir Kaito?"
"Do you know him?" Ethan whispered.
"Sir Kaito, it's me," the old man said, his voice cracking. "I am Jose. The boy you saved during the enemy attack. My father was Commander Silaw."
Kaito froze, the memories of the war rushing back—of meeting the Commander and his brave companions. "Jose? Is that really you?"
"Yes, Sir. My father was right... you truly are immortal. Your face hasn't aged a day, while I have become a ghost of a man."
"Jose, we need your help," Kaito said, placing a steady hand on the man's shoulder. Ethan stepped forward, showing Jose the sketch of the place they were seeking.
"The Church of Light," Jose sighed. "Swallowed by the earth many years ago."
A young woman approached them, calling out "Lolo!" to the old man. She stopped short when she saw Kaito, her eyes widening as she recognized the face from her grandfather's old photographs.
"He's a vampire," she whispered, breathless. "Just like in the books."
Jose chuckled weakly. "Forgive my granddaughter, Sir Kaito. Please, come to my hut. It is small, but it is safe, and I will prepare food for you all."
"I'd appreciate that," Ethan said, glancing at the hungry stares of the villagers nearby. "I'm not exactly comfortable out here in the open."
"Don't worry," the young woman added with a confident smirk. "My Lolo was the sheriff here. No one will touch you while you're with us."
"I'm Akihiko. And you are?"
"Raven," she answered. "Like the crow."
"An uncommon name," Ethan noted.
Raven smiled. "Thank you. You're only the second person to tell me it's unique. I appreciate that."
