Chapter 69: I Still Need to Improve
Yulin Road isn't really a single street-it's more like an area.
As night fell, small groups of young people lingered outside, listening to music, sipping drinks, and enjoying the leisurely pace of Rongcheng.
"Young when you don't enter Shu, old when you don't leave Sichuan."
Zhang Yang, only twenty-five, felt a little immersed in the city streets, enjoying the evening breeze and the music.
"Zhang Yang, right? Come on, a toast to you!" a few young men came over with drinks. "Not bad, you've won over little Bei!"
Zhang Yang smiled and raised his glass politely.
These were all friends of Bei Wei from childhood, most of whom had stayed in Rongcheng, and it was rare for them to gather like this.
A few tall-legged girls were even friendlier, crowding around, asking questions, curious about everything, trying to learn all they could about Zhang Yang.
"Old Yang, have you thought it through?" the guys whispered, patting him on the shoulders and raising their glasses.
"I have, I've come to terms with it," Old Yang said, glancing at Bei Wei's sweet expression from a distance, shaking his head with a self-deprecating smile.
Even if things had gone his way, he knew he would never forget this early summer, watching the light in Bei Wei's eyes for another man.
"Alright, here's something else," one of the guys said, exchanging glances.
"What?" Old Yang was puzzled.
"We just watched you toast earlier. After seeing everything, we all agree-you lost fairly," they said, shaking their heads and laughing.
"I get it. With a guy like that, of course I lost fairly," Old Yang said with a laugh, taking a big sip.
"No, we mean it. We studied him-look at that Audemars Piguet on his wrist. It's definitely real. Everything he owns could buy a flat in Rongcheng. You really have nothing to regret, right?"
Old Yang paused mid-drink, then finished his glass in silence.
Time passed without notice. They drank and chatted, slightly tipsy, until it was time to disperse.
"Let's call it a night, we'll meet again next time."
Groups stood up, satisfied.
Zhang Yang hailed a car by the roadside and helped the slightly tipsy Bei Wei in. A young man called after him.
Zhang Yang turned to see a fair-skinned, scholarly-looking young man-they seemed to call him Old Yang.
"Hey, man," the boy approached.
"What's up?" Zhang Yang asked, curious.
"Please… just take good care of Bei Wei. Make sure she's happy!"
After saying this, the boy turned and left without waiting for a response.
"Uh… who are you?" Zhang Yang blinked, bewildered.
Inside the car, Bei Wei murmured softly.
Zhang Yang brushed off the thought and got in.
Once inside, Bei Wei followed his scent, murmuring a little, and obediently rested against his chest.
The next morning, Bei Wei was heading back to Shanghai, with Bei Jiajia accompanying her.
On the way to the airport, the sisters chatted and laughed, clearly in high spirits.
"Bei Wei, look at your outfit-Louis Vuitton, Chanel dress, Bulgari watch, earrings, necklace. All in all, tens of thousands. Definitely a little wealthy lady," Bei Jiajia said, admiring her.
"No surprise, following Zhang Handsome has its perks."
"You talk too much. Everything you wear and use, is any of it worse than mine?" Bei Wei shot back without hesitation.
"Altogether, still not as expensive as your Bulgari watch," Bei Jiajia said softly.
Zhang Yang sat in the passenger seat, listening to their quiet bickering, smiling but staying out of it, until the car neared the airport.
Outside the airport, Zhang Yang helped them with their luggage.
"Bei Jiajia, be more attentive at the store and help your sister," Zhang Yang said with a smile.
As supervisor, Bei Jiajia had significant responsibilities-store renovations, material delivery, operations.
"For getting us first-class tickets, I'll make sure everything goes smoothly," Bei Jiajia promised, patting her chest. "By the way, do you two need some privacy? I'll step away."
Being thoughtful, she moved the luggage a little distance away, leaving them time alone.
"I'm leaving now!" Bei Wei said, looking up at Zhang Yang, her expression gentle.
"Go ahead, you've worked hard," Zhang Yang said, pinching her cheek and preparing to help with her luggage one last time.
"Wait a moment, Zhang Yang," Bei Wei called softly.
"Hmm?" Zhang Yang turned, puzzled.
She walked forward with her hands behind her, then tiptoed to rest her chin on his shoulder, whispering in his ear,
"Be good, don't sneak any bites."
"Sneak bites?" Zhang Yang mulled over the words, ready to playfully scold her, but Bei Wei laughed lightly and ran off.
~~~~~
By nine in the morning, their flight from Shuangliu International Airport to Shanghai departed.
Meanwhile, Zhang Yang began his learning journey in Rongcheng.
Every day, he arrived punctually at Tianfu Catering, studying everything about Shudu Spicy Roast Duck.
Although he preferred a hands-off approach, he paid full attention to what needed learning, investing extra effort and focus.
In his free time, he would sit in Bei Tianfu's office, drinking tea and chatting, enjoying the city's leisurely rhythm.
During this period, he stayed at the Ni Yi Ge Luo Hotel on Chunxi Road.
The location was excellent-opposite Taikoo Li, overlooking the bustling Chunxi Road from the upper floors of the financial district.
With nearly six million in cash on hand, Zhang Yang naturally didn't skimp on himself.
Rooms cost over three thousand a night-not the ultimate luxury suites, but offering great views and an excellent experience.
That night, in his hotel room:
Zhang Yang had just finished his bath and stood in a robe by the floor-to-ceiling window, admiring the moonlit city.
Below, Chunxi Road was brightly lit all night, tourists mingling, lights dazzling, and sports cars roaring past in waves of sound.
"Supercars…" Zhang Yang murmured, watching the flashy machines, heart racing.
Though financially free, he was still only narrowly free-he hadn't yet reached the point where he could buy whatever he wanted, unbothered by price.
For instance, a supercar: landing price in the millions. Could he afford one on a whim?
A top-tier luxury home worth over a hundred million? Without property coupons, could he live there?
Even with a Bentley, million-dollar watches, and daily fifty-thousand-yuan cashback, it wasn't enough. He still had much room for improvement.
He still needed to work hard.
