It had been hours since Tara had fallen asleep while the others waited anxiously around her ward.
Tara's eyes fluttered slightly as she adjusted to the harsh hospital light before finally opening fully. This time, instead of staring blankly ahead, her gaze slowly wandered around the room. The first thing she noticed was the warmth beside her hand, as though someone had been there for a long time.
She turned her head slightly and found Cain sleeping beside her bed, his head resting near her hand.
Tara unconsciously stared at him longer than necessary.
For the first time in a while, she truly observed him. His dark undercut hair was messy from exhaustion, strands falling carelessly across his forehead. His long black eyelashes rested quietly against his skin, his straight nose sharp and elegant, while his heart-shaped face somehow made him appear both divine and deceptively gentle. Then there were his thin lips, lips that strangely looked as though they were begging to be kissed.
