Chapter 12 - An Abnormal Mission 2(Edited)

Dilapidated hospital.

"From dusk to dawn, let none escape this curtain law!"

Masamichi shouted, and cursed energy slowly covered the entire hospital like an inverted bowl.

After casting the barrier technique, Masamichi turned to the three, "This mission isn't easy. The cursed spirit is suspected to be semi-first grade; it would be hard..." Masamichi paused and then turned to Satoru,

"I hope you won't help unless necessary."

Satoru gave a smile, "Don't worry."

Masamichi nodded and turned to the other two, "If you find the mission to be too hard, you can give me a signal—though I won't act unless I see it's too desperate."

Suguru and Shoko nodded in understanding.

"All right, go. The faster you guys finish, the sooner we would leave," Masamichi said, then turned to Satoru with a probing look.

"Don't worry, I'll keep my word," Satoru said.

After getting Satoru's reassurance, Masamichi finally walked away.

Seeing that Masamichi was standing close to a pole not far from the hospital, Satoru turned to the two with a smile, "I guess I can't help."

"Don't worry. This isn't our first cursed spirit exorcism—though this one is the strongest, it's not something we can't kill," Suguru said with a confident smile.

"We? I don't think I can do anything," Shoko spoke from the side, getting a wry smile from Suguru.

"Ok," Satoru nodded, already walking away. "Don't worry—if you're in danger, I'll lend a hand as a classmate."

Watching the receding figure of Satoru, Suguru smiled and then turned to Shoko, "Come on, let's go."

.....

After walking for a while, Satoru tilted his head and lowered his blindfold, curiously staring at the dilapidated hospital.

This doesn't seem to be for me... Satoru thought as he let go of his blindfold, walking towards a certain direction. ...Oh well, guess I'll help then.

...

Suguru and Shoko entered the hospital—the halls which would have been swarmed by patients, visitors, and staff were now empty, with some functioning bulbs swaying with the eerie winds.

Just as they stepped into the hospital, Suguru's expression became tense as he turned to Shoko:

"The curse is here. I'll handle it—get to somewhere safe."

Shoko's eyes flickered for a moment before she gave a nod, "Mhm, don't die."

Suguru smiled wryly as he watched Shoko's receding figure, "Don't worry, I won't."

Shrieeeek!!!

A piercing wail erupted from within a dimly lit hall, and with a sudden surge of cursed energy, a spider-like cursed spirit burst out from the hall, a large bulging sack behind its back.

Suguru's eyes sharpened as his cursed energy seeped out from his body. A vortex of cursed energy suddenly erupted from behind, and a centipede-like cursed spirit with numerous eyes around its body surged forward; its mandible widened and bit into the spider-like cursed spirit.

Shrieeeek!!

The cursed spirit who had just emerged was taken aback by the sudden attack; letting out a shrill scream, its body kept slamming the walls of the hospital, trying to remove Suguru's cursed spirit. But it proved futile as the countless legs of the centipede cursed spirit stabbed into the body of the spider cursed spirit, which produced another shrill scream.

Suguru watched the fight tensely, ready to send reinforcement to the centipede cursed spirit if things went awry—but the thrashing cursed spirit suddenly stopped.

"Eh?" Suguru blinked in surprise. "Is it dea—"

Suguru hadn't finished his words when the tumor behind the spider cursed spirit suddenly swelled and burst. Thousands of mini-spider cursed spirits suddenly surged forward, swarming the centipede cursed spirit.

"Shit!" Suguru's eyes widened as he cursed involuntarily, trying to recall the centipede cursed spirit back—but it proved futile as the mini-spiders had surrounded it.

Though he felt pain—that was his strongest cursed spirit—Suguru still summoned four more cursed spirits: an agility type, a defense type, an attack type, and a special type.

Swoosh!

The agility-type cursed spirit—a monkey with two heads and sickles for arms—erupted with great speed, appearing beside the spider cursed spirit and its 'children'.

Schlik!

The sickle arm cut through the body of the spider cursed spirit like a hot knife cutting through butter.

Shrieeeek!!

The cursed spirit let out another scream as it rapidly retreated; its 'children'—the ones not gnawing on the centipede cursed spirit—attacked the monkey cursed spirit, but it swiftly dodged them. Then the attack-type cursed spirit—a round ball-like being with balls at the end of its four long arms—rolled over and with its ball hands smashed the mini-spiders.

Boom!

Wind whipped through the air as many of the 'baby' spiders turned into cursed energy, dissipating into the air.

The eyes of the spider cursed spirit blazed with rage as it stared at the monkey and ball cursed spirits, completely oblivious to the twisting shadow behind it. Suddenly, a cursed spirit burst from the shadow—a ghost-like cursed spirit—attacked. Its hands shockingly passed through the body of the spider cursed spirit, and then it swung its arms wide at both sides, ripping through the cursed body.

Shrieeeek!!

The now-shrunken spider cursed spirit let out a shriek of pain as it turned around, looking for its attacker—but unfortunately, the ghost spirit had already slipped into a shadow.

Just as it was frantically looking for its attacker, the monkey cursed spirit—who had been hiding—moved. Like a ghost, it swiftly appeared beside the spider cursed spirit, and before the spider cursed spirit could defend itself, the sickle arms came down smoothly, cutting the legs of the spider cursed spirit. Before the 'children' could come to its aid, Suguru appeared beside it and—with a touch—turned it into a ball of cursed energy. Without hesitation, he chugged it down, finally defeating the spider cursed spirit, which caused the spider 'children' to dissolve into cursed energy.

"Hu..." Suguru sighed tiredly. "Finally killed it... but it's somehow weak—not befitting the strength of a semi-first grade cursed spirit."

Though Suguru hadn't fought a semi-first grade cursed spirit, he still knew the strength of a second-grade cursed spirit—and the spider fit this category very well.

"Suguru—they are more!"

Shoko's shout snapped Suguru from his reverie. He instinctively looked at the dimly lit hall where the spider cursed spirit had come from—only for his eyes to widen in shock: there were two more spider cursed spirits, each not weaker than the one he just defeated.

Hum!

Just as Suguru was considering calling Masamichi, a thick wave of cursed energy spread through the entire hospital.

"This-this..!" Suguru's eyes widened. Though the cursed energy came and went swiftly, he could feel its oppressive feeling.

This is no semi-first grade cursed spirit mission!

...

Outside, Masamichi—who had been standing beside the pole—also felt the energy. But just as he was about to go inside the hospital, two yellow-haired men appeared at the entrance with weird poses:

"I'm Tariq Al-Mansur!"

"And I'm Khalid Al-Mansur!"

"We're from the curse user group Q—and are here to stop you!"
