My nerves had been building steadily throughout the entire day.
Pollux and I were on lockdown inside the packhouse with all mind links blocked from us, which meant I had no information and no way to get any. We were not allowed to leave, no one was allowed in, and the only wolves we could account for were the four guards Phoenix had stationed around the exterior of the building. I felt the guards were excessive. Phoenix had not asked my opinion.
We sat at the breakfast bar making an attempt at lunch. I was mostly dragging pasta around my bowl in slow thoughtful circles, too distracted to actually eat it. I had hoped the day after the challenge fights would be quieter, something more like the two of us together before the heat arrived tomorrow. Instead Phoenix had been gone for four hours attending to a breach no one would explain to me, somewhere on the border, and I was sitting here with cold pasta and too many unanswered questions.
