Green Lace
The next morning I felt like I had shifted for the first time all over again. My whole body ached with the particular deep soreness that comes after serious physical exertion, my hips and knees protesting every movement and my head pounding steadily behind my eyes. My throat was dry enough that swallowing was unpleasant. I groaned and rolled out of bed, shuffling to the bathroom to drink a cup of cold water that was not particularly satisfying but was exactly what was needed.
Once I had woken enough to function I brushed my teeth, worked through the knots in my hair with considerably more effort than usual and stripped out of my pyjamas before pulling on my robe and stepping back out of the bathroom.
"Nova?"
I spun around at the voice behind me and my hand shot out in defence before my brain had fully caught up. There was a grunt of impact. I opened my eyes to find Phoenix standing in front of me with mildly amused sleepy eyes, rubbing the spot I had hit.
