I checked around the side of the cabin and behind me before I ran again, crossing the gap to the next one in a low fast sprint. I pressed myself against the back wall and caught my breath, listening. The adrenaline was moving through me in steady waves and Cel was right there with me, alert and ready, her attention sharp on everything around us.
I eased my head around the corner and found myself looking directly into a pair of brown eyes.

She looked the same as when I had left her, just cleaner. Her small arms were wrapped around her knees and her body was curled into a ball on the floor of the cage. Most of the women around her were asleep. The men moved through the camp with bottles clinking and voices low. She blinked at me slowly and gave the smallest shake of her head. How she knew I was not a threat I could not fully explain. She had never seen my wolf before and everyone here had been told I was dead.
