"Wah, are these monsters unkillable?" Kamanato dodged an attack from a monster that looked like a praying mantis, like a little rabbit.
On the other side, Momo quickly released a Wind Blade, slicing off the mantis monster's head.
The decapitated monster immediately dissipated into a cloud of mist, merging into the surrounding environment.
But Momo and Kamanato didn't relax at all, because this scene had happened several times; this mantis monster had been decapitated at least four times.
Each time it was like this: it would turn into mist and merge into the surroundings, and a few minutes later, a new mantis monster would reappear.
It was as if these monsters were immortal.
"The communication devices are completely useless; not only can I not contact the Association, I can't even contact Huangmao," Momo said, her expression grave as she listened to the busy signal in her earpiece.
Huangmao had gotten separated from them when the monsters first appeared; to evade the monsters' attacks, they had fled into two different alleys.
Unfortunately, the monsters seemed to prefer the two girls, as it pursued Kamanato's side with almost no hesitation.
"If I get out of this alive, I'm definitely going to complain to that commander," Kamanato said through gritted teeth, covering her right eye.
"Still can't see the future?"
"No, this time my eyes are truly obscured by the fog." Kamanato shook her head; her superpower, which had almost never failed, was completely ineffective in this mist.
The originally blurry River of Fate was now completely shrouded in mist, preventing Kamanato from obtaining any information.
"How did we get trapped in here?" Kamanato was very confused. She only remembered accepting the Association's directive and chasing a few steps in the direction the mysterious person had left.
Then, they entered this strange place.
"I don't know... watch out, the monsters are coming again!" Momo stared at the reappearing monsters, a sense of powerlessness gradually taking over.
She was truly annoyed by these monsters that revived again and again.
"No, not just one!" Kamanato's mouth twitched slightly. Momo could indeed deal with one monster easily, but now, there were four monsters behind them.
It would be difficult for Momo alone to easily disperse these monsters while ensuring Kamanato's safety.
"Tsk, Leticia, hold my hand tight." Momo also understood that a head-on confrontation was not a good choice. Their retreat was already blocked by monsters, so the only way out was forward.
"Go easy on me." Kamanato's face was a bit pale; she had experienced being dragged along by Momo before.
That experience, to make an analogy, was like riding a rollercoaster and a drop tower at the same time.
In short, it was terrifying.
"It's better than dying." Momo took out a rope and firmly tied her wrist to Kamanato's. Then, a cyan wind enveloped her, and the next moment, the two girls vanished from their spot.
"Wah!!!"
The girl's scream echoed through Fog City.
"These monsters seem to be controlling our direction," Momo thought as she darted through the alleys.
Whenever she passed through a fork in the road, some monsters would suddenly appear and block certain exits, as if someone was deliberately guiding them somewhere.
"There's nothing we can do, we can't just force our way through, can we?" Kamanato's voice was scattered by the airflow as soon as it left her mouth, but her meaning still reached Momo's ears.
This chase lasted for nearly ten minutes. In those ten minutes, Momo didn't know how many alleys she had run through or how many monsters she had encountered.
After rushing out of the mist-shrouded alleys, she saw an ancient street.
It was a scene that would only appear in movies, because such architecture had long been destroyed in the wars of many years ago.
"Oh my god..."
"What in the world is that..."
The two girls exclaimed simultaneously.
What did they see? A tens-of-meters-tall Flame Giant, wielding a giant sword, smashing the monsters that surged towards it like a tide.
The monsters dissipated into mist, only to reappear a few breaths later. It was then that Momo realized how much more troublesome these monsters were than she had anticipated.
"Magic, this is definitely magic!" Kamanato was certain that this giant was not a product of superpowers.
In other words, there were demons trapped in the mist just like them.
"This magic is called 'Giant of the Burning World,' and it's one of the most advanced fire-elemental spells," a clear and lovely voice rang out behind the two girls. "I'm surprised you two made it in as well."
"Eh?!" Kamanato turned around in surprise; she was all too familiar with that voice.
"Good evening, Captain." Leticia raised her left hand and waved at Kamanato. "I didn't expect to see you under these circumstances."
"You, what exactly is going on?" Kamanato looked at Leticia's familiar white robe, and the thought that popped into her head almost caused her brain to crash.
Yuna is a demon?!
And she was the one who beat her into the hospital last week?!
What in the world is going on?
"As you can see, I am a demon, and this is my biological sister," Leticia said, pointing to Kira, addressing the two girls. "As for this place, it's a divine artifact called 'Fog City.'"
"'Fog City' is a divine artifact with absolutely no offensive power. These monsters were created by the mastermind behind the scenes," Kira continued, explaining the current situation to her sister's two friends. "It's difficult to break through 'Fog City' by brute force, but we can go to the center of 'Fog City,' where there's a facility to temporarily shut it down."
"And the center of 'Fog City' is at the end of this main street, that Clock Tower, which can be vaguely seen even through the mist."
"Wait, wait, let me get this straight." Kamanato quickly interjected; so much information suddenly crammed into her head was causing her brain to overload. "Let's not talk about you being a demon for now. You're a bad person, right?"
"No, I've always been a law-abiding citizen." Leticia stated that she had never committed an illegal act.
"You put me in the hospital last week!"
"I was just helping out. You'll have to ask the old guys in your Association for the specific reason." Leticia clarified that she didn't just hit people randomly; she had permission to do so.
"Huh?"
"Sigh, to put it simply, I'm actually your instructor, here to give you special training. As for that book, it was purely an accident," Leticia explained.
