Fiona sighed, the last of her patience slipping away.
"Yes, Mom."
Eva's expression immediately brightened.
"Please, can you make dinner?"
"Mom—"
"Shhh, I know," Eva squeezed Fiona's hands gently, cutting her off with a pleading smile. "I know, you just finished cleaning the toilet."
"Mom—"
"Fiona, please just make any—"
"MOM!"
Fiona's voice thundered through the hallway.
Eva froze.
Fiona's chest tightened as she fought to keep her emotions under control.
"Mom, can you just listen to me for once?" she demanded, her voice trembling with exhaustion. "I just came back from my shoot, and the first thing you asked me to do was wash the toilet."
She swallowed hard.
"Not just your toilet but Fallyn's," her eyes burned, "while she's there chatting and laughing."
She slowly pulled her hands away from Eva's grasp.
"Mom, be honest with me, did you ever love me?"
Eva's breath caught.
"Why would you say such a thing?"
