Fiona's heart tightened slightly beneath Eva's gaze for the briefest moment. She wondered if she was still hurting, but she pushed the thought aside and forced a smile on her lips.
"Dinner's ready, Mom; I made fries and grilled chicken."
Right there Eva's stomach made a sound; they both froze before their eyes dropped to it, then they looked back at each other.
"Is your father back?"
"Yes."
Before she could say another word, the bedroom opened, and their head snapped towards it, seeing Brett. Brett stood there, his eyes fixed on Eva.
"Good evening, Dad, dinner is served," she said, straightening from her bent position. "We will wait for you at the table."
"Okay, Fiona," he said, stepping inside. "We will be right behind you."
