Chapter 55 - Chapter 55: The Impostor Becomes Real

After sending the others out of the room, Lin Yang stood in front of the young man.

The moment he activated "All-Seeing," the bodily structure of the boy named Ah Hai unfolded in his mind. He could clearly "see" a dark shadow wriggling in Ah Hai's chest, like some kind of parasite wrapped around his lungs.

Seeing this thing, Lin Yang roughly understood. This guy was probably just another unlucky fellow. In the wild, the most dangerous things weren't the visible beasts or soul beasts, but these invisible threats. No one could guarantee they wouldn't get hit. Whether one could survive after being hit was another matter entirely.

But this unlucky guy was fortunate today—he had run into him.

Lin Yang then took out a test tube from his soul storage bracelet. It contained a transparent liquid. He poured the entire tube of transparent solution directly into Ah Hai's mouth. Within seconds, Ah Hai, who had been groaning, instantly passed out.

This was a powerful anesthetic that Lin Yang had accidentally created. It had very little effect on soul masters, but for ordinary people, one dose and they were down.

After confirming Ah Hai was unconscious, Lin Yang's right index fingernail became sharp. With a swipe, he opened Ah Hai's chest and abdomen.

Two smooth blood-flesh thorns grew from the wound and directly spread open his entire chest cavity. Blood flowed from the flesh, but Lin Yang controlled it with a wave of his hand, suspending it to the side.

"Looks like I need to forge a proper set of surgical tools," Lin Yang muttered to himself. "Operating directly like this is still a bit unhygienic."

With the blood no longer obstructing the view, the organs beneath the ribs were completely exposed to Lin Yang's eyes. He could even clearly see the beating heart. Of course, that also included the parasite attached to the lungs.

The parasite was extremely slender, looking like an iron wire worm. More than a dozen "iron wire worms" were wrapped tightly around the lungs like steel wires. The scene made Lin Yang's stomach churn with discomfort.

But he still acted quickly. Without damaging the lung lobes, he pulled all the worms out. After completely clearing away the parasites, the lungs finally began to expand and contract powerfully again.

In his unconscious state, Ah Hai's brows relaxed and a look of relief appeared on his face.

Next was suturing. This step was even easier for Lin Yang. With a slight mobilization of soul power to activate the "Blood-Flesh Thorns," the cut skin, muscles, and fascia automatically drew together and reconnected as if they were alive. Not even a scar would be left behind.

Afterward, Lin Yang took out another new test tube and slowly injected the solution inside into Ah Hai's vein with a syringe. This potion could accelerate bodily recovery. As long as Ah Hai woke up, the surgery would be considered completely finished.

The entire surgical process could be said to be crudely unorthodox, but under the Transparent World, every step was precisely under Lin Yang's control. He knew exactly where to cut to minimize bleeding points and how to avoid important blood vessels.

After all… no one understood the structure of the human body better than he did.

Outside the room, the young burly leader was pacing back and forth somewhat anxiously, occasionally glancing toward the room. The others were also relatively silent.

At that moment, the door suddenly opened and Lin Yang's figure appeared before everyone.

The young man rushed forward in one stride and asked urgently,

"Doctor Lin, is Ah Hai still savable?"

Lin Yang smiled. "He's fine now!"

As soon as these words were spoken, the young man's tightly clenched fists suddenly relaxed. He let out a long breath and hurriedly thanked him. His voice even trembled a little.

"Thank you, Doctor Lin! Thank you!"

The others also stood up one after another. The dark clouds on their faces finally cleared, and smiles appeared. It was clear that this mercenary squad had a very good relationship.

The young burly man then rubbed his hands and tentatively asked, "Then when can Ah Hai come out?"

"He should still be unconscious for about half an hour. You can go in and see him, but don't be too loud!"

After the group entered the room and confirmed that Ah Hai was fine, the young man came out again.

"Doctor Lin, we really owe you today," the man stood in front of Lin Yang with a serious expression. "From now on, if there's anything our brothers can help with, just say the word. We won't hesitate."

"You're too kind," Lin Yang smiled faintly.

During their conversation, Lin Yang learned that the young man was called Keynes and was the leader of this mercenary squad. Ah Hai was his brother-in-law. He had just entered the profession and had encountered this on his first job.

Their squad was small and mainly took jobs from medicine merchants or pharmacies, escorting herb gatherers into the wild. Although the pay was low, it was relatively stable.

The two chatted casually. Keynes gradually discovered that although Lin Yang looked young, he was very pleasant to talk to and showed no contempt for mercenaries like them.

"Doctor Lin, please tell me the consultation fee."

"Ten silver soul coins."

"Alright!"

Keynes paid very readily. He even felt they had gotten a bargain, since the effect had been immediate. Ah Hai only needed a few days of rest.

Lin Yang didn't even look at it. He simply tossed the small bag of silver coins into a drawer. He didn't lack this bit of money. He only charged to avoid making his skills seem too cheap.

At this moment, a coughing sound came from inside the room, followed by the noisy chatter of several people. Ah Hai had woken up!

Lin Yang went over and took a look. Ah Hai's face was still a little pale, but his eyes were clear. Keynes and the others surrounded him, looking him up and down. After confirming he only had a slight cough and everything else was fine, they thanked Lin Yang profusely once again.

"Alright," Lin Yang waved his hand. "Go back and rest for a few more days. Avoid strenuous activity."

The group nodded repeatedly. Then they helped Ah Hai out, thanking him with a whole basket of words until Lin Yang started to feel impatient.

Once it was finally quiet again, Lin Yang returned to the laboratory and began a new round of experiments.

Previously, he had researched herbs with a somewhat utilitarian mindset. Whether it was for Grandma Su Xi or to get closer to Dugu Yan, he had needed a certain level of medical knowledge.

But now, he had actually come to enjoy the feeling of constantly experimenting and exploring among the herbs. Of course, he hadn't neglected his soul power cultivation. He couldn't put the cart before the horse.

Not long after entering Heaven Dou City, Lin Yang had already broken through to level thirty-two. He could clearly feel that his cultivation speed had become "slower." This "slower" was relative. The cultivation efficiency of the third ring was naturally much stronger than the second ring, but the "container" volume needed to accumulate soul power had also grown larger. Therefore, it took more time.

However, compared to other soul masters who could only slowly meditate and accumulate, Lin Yang's "Sun Breathing—Full Concentration · Constant" clearly had a greater advantage.

After the Ah Hai incident, Keynes's squad became regular visitors to Lin Yang's place. It wasn't that they kept getting injured. Rather, Keynes's big mouth praised Lin Yang everywhere he went.

Lin Yang probably didn't realize that the seemingly steady Keynes was actually quite the chatterbox.

"I'm telling you the truth—Doctor Lin's medical skills are unbeatable. Not only is it affordable, but the results are fast," Keynes would casually boast during his free time. "Take my brother-in-law. He was practically out of breath, but Doctor Lin snatched him back from the King of Hell. The parasitic worms taken out from his body nearly made me vomit."

The other mercenaries also perked up their ears and listened carefully. Someone questioned, "Is it real? I heard that Doctor Lin is quite young." No beard on the mouth, unreliable in work—this was especially obvious in the medical profession.

"Hmph. You saw what condition my brother-in-law was in before and what he's like now. You tell me if it's real."

Ah Hai, standing to the side, could only smile bitterly and nod in agreement.

Thus, through word of mouth, more and more people began coming to Lin Yang's small courtyard.

At first, it was only scattered mercenaries with relatively simple injuries—knife cuts, insect bites, and the like. Lin Yang could handle these in just a few moves. He would send them off after charging a symbolic few to a dozen copper soul coins.

Later, the number of people gradually increased. There were people with broken legs, those bitten by soul beasts, those who had accidentally eaten poisonous herbs, and those who had been betrayed by their own companions and were on the verge of death.

Gradually, lines would occasionally form at the entrance of Lin Yang's small courtyard. The variety of conditions allowed Lin Yang's clinical experience to grow day by day, and his medical skills improved steadily.

At first, Lin Yang himself hadn't noticed any change. It wasn't until a medicine merchant smiled and asked,

"Doctor Lin, what do you think of the quality of this batch of herbs? I saved the best ones for you."

Only then did Lin Yang realize that his fake "Doctor Lin" persona seemed to have gained some reputation in the area.
