Chapter 24 - The Vile Army

A month in mediation had passed. The Knight was making sure it was ready and not trying to figure out how to survive like it usually did. Before facing something far superior the Knight would hide in a small hole, coming up with strategies and finding a way to beat the powers that be. Now, it was simply making sure that it can go through this fight without needing to release the soul or consume another. The Knight then consumed Max's soul, the followers had been fed their diet of monsters, each decade they needed a soul, even before attempting suicide, the Knight had fed them, and now once more.

Then the Knight entered the huge area, and then it saw it, this monster had decided to take a slumber seeing that no-one could challenge its rule. The thing was towering at about a hundred kilometres. The Knight did not like to crane its neck, so it simply teleported up to look down on the monster. Then the entourage teleported next to the Knight, these greedy things when not in the Knights body needed to be sustained with monster souls, once decade to keep the vessel from collapsing. The ones on the Knights body could feed straight from the consumed human souls.

One was the Vile hunter, the wolf like monster was now a hundred metres tall. Its shared skill with the hive is teleportation, and its vessel is level 140, because of the power loss that comes with having to share the skill with the hive. Next was the ghost Holi, type-spirit, its armour shone like mystical silver. They were rare, only ten in the whole dungeon, and all were level 150, but only one had the skill the Knight wanted. This one shared the skill phase, which allows immateriality for ten minutes per hour. The next is Tyun, type-soldier. A humanoid monster that had no face but stitched on face parts across the body. Its armour was made of glass chainmail; it allows scents and sight of the body parts. Its skill was not masking the presence of anything from any and all senses, it could remove sense of direction, time, space, location, even the basic ones like sight. It took the Knights sense of power during their battle, convincing the Knight that it had become a level 35, so that it would avoid hitting it.

The next was a white flame with a blue halo, which felt more like a crown, type-elemental, Sirus. Its armour was using the soul of its kin, it was a simplified version, it was floating pieces of metal that could interlock to avoid attacks from pure water elementals, which did not have a good enough skill to be included. The armour is only used then fighting beings that can hurt it, which was not many, including the Knight. The skill it had was to touch the soul while it was alive, which is a burden when a flame monster is trying to burn your soul, it was a skill for the other vessels more than it was for the Knight, the Knight would only need it to touch the soul without killing the vessel, which is what the followers need to do to get vessels without destroying them. Next is a tiger monster that is a hunter towering at about ten metres, Quake, type-hunter. It could shake a hole small island off the map by going all out, because immense tremors travel through its target, now imagine the skill being used by ten monsters simultaneously, sadly it only managed to wake up the monster, nothing more. Its armour is a dark shade of green, and light and mobile for speed, which is needed since some beings are not affected by sudden teleportation.

The next was the humanoid knight, Joval, who had armour that the Knight replaced with an indigo shaded one, with a matching sword and shield, type-soldier. Two meters of rotting flesh encased in rusty armour no more. Its skill is that it can make a field that nullifies skills, not powers though. Then the tiny insectoid, almost an inch wide, Gyer, type-soldier. It had no armour; its skill allows one to create illusions. This thing would make a huge monster as an illusion and fly so hard, with the titanic strength of a level 150, and it's almost indestructible wing shell, and strike at the points of impact of the illusions. These illusions are perfect though, so only a truly powerful being could see through it. Then there is Orgas, the thirty meter worm, type-soldier. It can affect the tangibility of things, making the air solid. This is why the followers are all still in the air they were not flying or floating, merely standing on the air. This worm has a slimy poison on its skin and is reddish by the looks of it, or maybe its transparent and that is the blood of its prey flowing in it, its internals work strange, as if the whole thing is mostly an intestine or stomach. It has black mailable armour for its figure, because it is strong but easily severed, and when split in two it grows back as two, the armour does too, sadly this is not a skill just physiology. With its skill it can ignore beings' skin defences and go inside and start eating the flesh. Strangely enough it still tunnels through the ground, maybe to keep its teeth sharpened, because the dungeon rocks are extremely durable.

The next one is a thought, the Knight had to defeat it in its mind, Yuva, type-spirit. It is a though spirit. It can read thoughts and become the form of the most harrowing being that the opponent is thinking of, too bad it could not assume the form of the void existence that the Knight met. Due to its always changing form it did not have an armour. The last is Foiga, the five meter lizard, type-assassin. If it had wings, the Knight might have been tempted to call it a lesser dragon, if they exist. Its skill is camouflage, an amazing skill, since it's an assassin type, the Knight had to get to make it able to kill the monsters easier. This band of vessels was not the most powerful, Holi is, but the rest were just useful. The illusion, camouflage, and tricking senses, were all used collectively to hide the aura of the Knight and kill most monsters without a confrontation. Some however like the king over here, are not easily tricked. They are the ones that have gone a step above to distinguish themselves, and this one here is even above them, it fought all the monsters to keep its prime position in this cave to get to be the closest to the source of evolution and power for the monsters.

The Knight looked to the five on the left and the five on the right and gave them the mental sign to attack. 'Vile, Holi, Tyun, Sirus, Quake, Joval, Gyer, Orgas, Yuva, Foiga…'

The Knight looked at the hundred-kilometre monster, and just before the coming closer, it looked down and finished; '… Don't go and die. Or else you'll have to wait a while before getting your turn to get a vessel.'

You have encountered a level 150 monster, Mugaw. Type-Disaster.

"That doesn't sound good at all."

The nice thing about the vessels is that they can all use the skills shared through the Knights soul with each other two. They all teleported to form a perimeter around the colossal, then they used quakes skill, and sent multiple tremors, Orgas was already inside dealing internal injuries, Sirus continued to burn the soul, lighting up the whole cave. Then the Knight punched the head of the thing. Then it moved. Its movements were sensing more tremors through the dungeon than the use of quakes skill. The Knight could feel Orgas about to be crushed by the flesh of the monster, so it used the intangibility from Holi and escaped. Sirus stopped and detached from the soul of the creature.

The Knight was already the second biggest next to its army, but next to this thing, it was a fly. The thing was covered in flowing white mist, it had the dark blue leathery skin, a pair of red curving horns, deep black eyes, and a split tail. It had two lean legs of a bull. Then it had a leathery torso, with arms of a human, and claws of a bear. The best way to describe it was an alligator body. The head was that of a blue flame spirit. The Knight had not noticed this because it was just a round coal pile with horns, but when it woke up, the head lit ablaze, forming into a dragonish head, with slight human features. The flame explained why the flame elemental Sirus stopped burning its soul, it must be hotter. This thing moved with the speed expected of a mountain, but really that was because it was waking from an ancient slumber. After its first shock, it had assumed the speed of a level 150, ignoring inertia, it moved quickly, and crushed Orgas. Then they all plummeted to the floor, losing the ability to make the air as solid as the ground. They landed on the floor, now they were not flies, they were ants scurrying around this walking disaster.
