Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Don’t Worry, I Brought One for You

"Pfft...!"

Alexis, Syrus, and Jaden couldn't help but burst out laughing at Jiang He's move. Preparing an IOU before the duel even started was truly a top-tier troll move.

"I don't have a pen!" Chazz hissed through gritted teeth. He hadn't expected this outcome at all, let alone to lose. Why would he be carrying a pen?

"Don't worry, I brought one for you."

Before the words had even left Chazz's mouth, Jiang He's voice rang out, sounding so "considerate" it nearly caused Chazz a heart attack.

"..." Chazz stared blankly.

"..." Alexis and the others watched with odd expressions as Jiang He pulled a pen out of his pocket with a beaming smile.

They were all thinking the same thing: This guy is truly something.

Jiang He had even prepared the pen!

Syrus was the most stunned of all. That was because the pen was actually his! He had wondered earlier why Jiang He wanted to borrow a pen to go find Chazz for a duel...

Now he knew. It was so Chazz could sign his debt away.

"You absolute bastard! I'll just transfer the 20 million to you right now via the Duel Academy PDA!" Chazz yelled, his sanity finally snapping.

He tore the IOU into tiny fragments and pulled out his Academy PDA. After confirming Jiang He's signal, he rapidly transferred the funds. The simple operation left him panting as if he had just run a marathon.

"As expected of the Princeton family, truly wealthy." Jiang He looked at his PDA and nodded in satisfaction at the 20 million yen balance.

Then, seeing Chazz glaring at him while huffing and puffing, Jiang He shook his head with mock pity. "Chazz, your stamina is a bit concerning. You're gasping like that just from pressing a few buttons on a PDA...?"

"You're far too weak."

"You... you bastard!" Chazz felt a sudden urge to challenge Jiang He to a physical fight. Was he out of breath because of the PDA?! No! He was panting because he was so goddamn angry!

"Pfft!" Alexis let out a light giggle, looking at Jiang He with renewed interest. This guy really knew how to push people's buttons. He was exactly as interesting as she had suspected.

Jaden and Syrus, meanwhile, just scratched their cheeks awkwardly, not knowing what to say.

However, Jaden's eyes soon lit up with excitement as he stepped forward. "Chazz! Duel me next!"

"What? You want 20 million too?!" Chazz barked, turning his fury toward Jaden.

Even Jiang He looked at Jaden in surprise. Does this hotheaded idiot actually care about money?

"No, I just want to duel the number one student in Obelisk Blue to see how strong their elites really are!" Jaden said, raising his Duel Disk. "After all, you didn't get to use a single card against Jiang He! I didn't get to see your deck or your true skill at all."

"Damn it!"

Jaden's comment was like a second stab to the gut, reminding Chazz that he had just been OTK'd. Chazz's expression soured again, but he eventually pulled himself together and raised his own Duel Disk.

"Fine! If you want to be my punching bag, I'll give you the chance! Jaden Yuki, you Slifer Red loser!"

"As for you, Jiang He, we'll settle our score later! Don't expect to have such "good luck" next time!"

"If the stakes are 20 million again, I'm always welcome to a rematch," Jiang He said with a carefree smile as he tucked his PDA away. He stepped off the stage, yielding the spot to the hotheaded protagonist.

"A duel against an Obelisk elite... I'm getting excited!" Jaden shouted, full of energy.

"Humph! Jaden Yuki, don't think you can win using cheap tricks like that lucky brat did!" Chazz declared.

"Duel!"

"Are you really not worried about a rematch with Chazz?" Alexis asked, walking up to Jiang He with curiosity as the duel on stage began.

As one of the top female students in Obelisk Blue, Alexis had already analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of Jiang He's Exodia OTK deck after watching that one match.

The deck relied on very few monsters and a massive amount of draw spells. Its success rested almost entirely on pulling [Royal Magical Library]. If an opponent went first, they had several ways to shut it down destroying the Library, or using a Trap Card to banish one of the Exodia pieces from his hand.

In other words, the deck worked best against those who weren't familiar with its gimmick. Now that Chazz had seen it, he would surely find a way to counter it in their next match.

Alexis assumed that was why Chazz was willing to stay and duel Jaden despite his anger—he believed he could beat Jiang He next time. She was curious: was Jiang He's calmness due to a hidden ace, or was it pure self-confidence?
