After saying his piece, Alexander pressed the end-call button directly and handed the phone back to Evelyn, blocking her from stepping into the bedroom.
"Rest early!" He placed his hands gently on her shoulders and pressed a light kiss onto her forehead.
Evelyn looked at her phone uneasily, nodded, and walked back into the bedroom. After taking a quick bath, she fell asleep with her mobile phone held tight in her hand.
At three o'clock in the morning, Evelyn's phone suddenly rang out. The sharp ringtone echoed piercingly through the quiet night, making her eyes snap open instantly.
The caller ID displayed Michael Thorn.
She quickly switched the phone to silent, watching the screen light up again and again.
Then, a text message popped up on the screen:
[If I don't see you downstairs in five minutes, wait for me to come up.]
Evelyn threw on her clothes immediately. Before she could even tie up her hair, she grabbed her bag and rushed out of the bedroom.
