"Alright, alright, I was wrong," she coaxed softly, her voice turning sweet and compliant. "You're so terrifyingly fierce, how could I ever dare to wander?"
Michael nodded in thorough satisfaction, staring at the screen of his laptop in his hotel room, a brilliant smile reaching the very depths of his eyes. Because Crescent Spring didn't have enough fully prepared guest rooms at the moment, he was making do at a luxury hotel for the night.
"Let me see Clara and Lucian," he requested. Hanging up the audio call, he immediately initiated a video call.
Evelyn accepted without a second thought, flipping the camera to show the peaceful, soundly sleeping faces of their twins side-by-side under the covers.
A minute later, Michael's deep voice echoed from the speaker. "Alright. Now turn the camera back around, I want to see you." That, of course, had been his real purpose all along.
