Chapter 63 - Chapter 59: The Chains Return

The moment Raiku moved—

the world became wrong.

Not metaphorically.

Reality itself distorted around his presence like existence had suddenly remembered fear.

The floating island groaned beneath him. Ancient runes shattered. Entire sections of the fortress bent inward as invisible pressure swallowed the battlefield whole.

Shiro reacted instantly.

"MOVE!"

He vanished forward with explosive speed, destruction magic erupting around Edith and Zenith as both weapons reshaped into twin black blades crackling with spatial fractures.

He swung directly for Raiku's neck.

Raiku raised one hand.

Two fingers caught the blade.

Silence.

No explosion.

No shockwave.

Nothing.

Shiro's eyes widened.

Raiku looked almost disappointed.

"You've become stronger," he admitted calmly. "But you still confuse power with freedom."

Then he flicked his fingers.

Shiro disappeared.

The impact hit a full second later.

Amelia only saw the aftermath—a distant mountain at the edge of the floating island exploding apart as Shiro's body tore through it at impossible speed.

"SHIRO!"

Amelia launched forward instantly.

Yura followed beside her, summoning dozens of frozen sigils into existence around the battlefield.

But the disciples intercepted immediately.

Jacob crashed into Amelia mid-flight like a cannonball, sending both of them spiraling through the air.

Lais appeared before Yura with spinning blades and a grin filled with forced confidence.

"Your fight's with us."

Meanwhile—

deep within the shattered mountain—

Shiro coughed violently as blood spilled down his chin.

His arms trembled.

That single flick had almost knocked him unconscious.

Raiku slowly descended from the sky above him, robes fluttering softly in the freezing wind.

No anger.

No urgency.

Only certainty.

"You've been distracted lately," Raiku said quietly.

Shiro staggered upright immediately.

"Shut up."

His destruction aura exploded outward again as his scales spread higher across his face and chest.

Edith transformed instantly into a massive war scythe.

He attacked again.

Faster.

Sharper.

Deadlier.

Every movement was perfected through months of suffering beneath Raiku's training.

Feints layered inside feints.

Spatial cuts hidden behind destruction waves.

Gunfire mixed into melee transitions seamlessly.

Shadowfang Ascendant flowed perfectly.

And Raiku dismantled all of it effortlessly.

He sidestepped one slash.

Caught another barehanded.

Kneed Shiro hard enough to rupture his stomach.

Then calmly drove him face-first through six enchanted walls.

"Too emotional," Raiku criticized.

Shiro roared and unleashed a massive wave of destruction magic directly into the chamber.

The mountain vanished.

Erased completely.

Far above, Amelia's eyes widened as violet light erupted through the island itself.

"Shiro—"

The smoke cleared.

Raiku stood untouched.

Not even his robes were damaged.

Shiro's breathing became uneven.

No.

No no no.

This wasn't possible anymore.

He had evolved.

He had grown stronger.

So why—

Raiku suddenly appeared directly in front of him.

"You still don't understand," he said softly.

His hand touched Shiro's chest.

Pain exploded.

The slave mark reignited instantly.

Shiro screamed.

Not from injury.

Conditioning.

Every nerve in his body ignited like molten metal flooding through his veins. His muscles locked violently as memories crashed through him all at once:

The prison.

The torture.

The endless pain.

The training.

The helplessness.

His body dropped to one knee automatically.

And he hated himself for it.

Far away—

Amelia felt it immediately.

Her eyes widened in horror.

"No…"

Yura froze beside her.

Because they could feel Shiro's aura collapsing.

Not weakening.

Submitting.

Raiku crouched slowly in front of him.

"You were happier with purpose," he whispered calmly. "These girls filled your head with comfort. Peace. Attachment."

His fingers tightened slightly against the slave mark.

"And look what happened."

Shiro's body convulsed violently.

"You became weak enough to lose again."

"SHUT UP!"

Destruction magic exploded outward wildly.

The entire floating island shook violently as Shiro forced himself upward through the agony. His eyes glowed ferally now, blood running down his face as he grabbed Raiku by the throat and slammed him through the remains of the mountain.

Finally—

anger crossed Raiku's face.

For the first time.

The pressure around him intensified instantly.

Space cracked.

Gravity screamed.

And then Raiku struck once.

A single punch.

Shiro's armor shattered.

Bones cracked throughout his body simultaneously.

His consciousness nearly disappeared from the impact alone.

Raiku caught him before he hit the ground.

"You are mine," he said coldly.

Below—

Amelia finally broke through Jacob's defense and saw Shiro hanging limply in Raiku's grasp.

Something inside her snapped.

Black flames erupted across her entire body as vampire markings spread along her skin.

"LET HIM GO!"

She blitzed upward alongside Yura, whose entire body radiated catastrophic frost magic powerful enough to freeze the sky itself.

Together they attacked with everything they had.

And for a moment—

they actually reached him.

Amelia's scythe cut Raiku's cheek slightly.

Yura's frost froze one of his arms.

Silence followed.

Raiku slowly touched the blood on his face.

Then looked at them.

The killing intent that erupted from him made the world itself recoil.

Amelia froze.

Yura's breathing stopped.

Because for the first time—

they realized Raiku had not been trying.

Not even slightly.

"You've become emotionally attached to my weapon," Raiku said quietly.

The words hit harder than any attack.

Shiro's half-conscious eyes widened weakly.

Weapon.

Not person.

Weapon.

Raiku raised one hand.

The disciples instantly restrained Amelia and Yura with chains of dark magic before they could move again.

Amelia screamed violently while struggling hard enough to tear apart the ground beneath her knees.

Yura's calm composure finally shattered completely.

"PLEASE!"

Raiku ignored them both.

Instead he looked down at Shiro.

And gently placed a hand on his head.

"Sleep."

Darkness swallowed him instantly.

"No… no no no no—SHIRO!"

Amelia's voice broke completely.

The disciples began retreating immediately as portals opened around them.

Yura struggled desperately against the chains, tears finally streaming down her face.

"Shiro! Wake up! Please!"

For one brief moment—

Shiro's unconscious body stirred slightly in Raiku's arms.

And his fingers twitched weakly toward them.

Toward home.

Toward the life he almost had.

Then the portal closed.

Silence.

The floating island trembled quietly beneath the frozen sky while Amelia and Yura stood there breathing unevenly, staring at the empty space where he had vanished.

It felt exactly like reopening a wound that had only barely begun to heal.

Only this time—

the knife had gone deeper.

Much deeper.

And somewhere far away—

inside the endless darkness of Raiku's domain—

Shiro opened his eyes once more.

The chains had returned.
