Chapter 393: What Law of Heaven Did Chen Ye Break to Have Marvel's Gods Hunting Him?

"In that war, Chen Ye was defeated, but he went down in glory. They fought for nearly a hundred years, and more than ten thousand multiverses were destroyed.

"Chen Ye fought as he retreated. When at last he had nowhere left to run, he faced the One Above All head-on, even cut down the Five Great Gods, and finally died of exhaustion."

"If the One Above All hadn't been there, the whole Marvel Universe might have collapsed."

"Mephisto was beaten so badly he's still in his Hell dimension nursing his wounds to this day. God Emperor Doom and the Dynasty of Kangs suffered heavy losses too." Loki spoke with a note of nostalgia and admiration.

"By then I had already become the God of Stories and couldn't move. Even if I'd wanted to help, I couldn't. And Chen Ye refused my help anyway," Loki explained. He truly couldn't intervene lightly. The moment he left this place, the entire multiverse would be destroyed.

Ethan now had exactly one verdict on his previous self, Chen Ye.

He had it coming.

Not a single one of those beings was someone Ethan could afford to cross. At his current strength, he might manage to fight a Reed or two from the Council of Reeds. Taking on the entire Council at once was out of the question.

As everyone knows:

At the very top of Marvel's power-ceiling rankings sits the One Above All.

Also written as ONE-ABOVE-ALL, also known as the God of All Things. It's the same concept as Pangu in Chinese creation myth.

The One Above All exists beyond the bonds of time and the limits of space. To it, past, present and future are just different facets of a single instant. Every corner of the universe, however remote or hidden, lies under its will.

It has reached the supreme state of controlling everything in the infinite multiverse. The paths of the stars, the birth and death of life, the rise and fall of universes: all of it turns on a single thought.

As the absolute supreme being of the Marvel Universe, the One Above All is not only the creator of the Omniverse but also the power behind the Living Tribunal. Its existence is as ancient and mysterious as the universe itself.

In other words, Ethan was living on its turf.

The Five Great Gods need no introduction. Any reader who reads a lot of Marvel will know them. They're old familiar faces.

Their full title is the Five Creator Gods of the Universe: Galactus, Death, Eternity, Infinity, and Oblivion.

Each of the five represents one fundamental force of the Marvel Universe. Together they maintain the cosmos's balance and order.

Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, eats planets. At full strength he has limitless energy.

Death is the embodiment of death itself. She is not only the ruler of souls but the origin and final destination of every living soul.

Her existence gives life the concept of an ending, and makes every living being in the universe feel both the threat of death and awe before it.

Thanos is one of her simps.

Eternity, the abstract god also called Multiversal Eternity, is the embodiment of time itself.

He has witnessed the universe's birth, growth and change. He can bend the flow of time at will, creating or erasing the entire history of a universe.

His body is made of the essence of the cosmos, and each of his aspects holds infinite power. Even the smallest part of him is enough to reboot and reshape countless dimensions.

Infinity and Oblivion are likewise abstract entities, with power beyond imagining.

Normally, though, they don't intervene. They basically stay out of the Marvel Universe's affairs.

Ethan didn't even dare think about fighting any of those. He figured he'd be dead before he ever laid eyes on them.

The rest of the enemies were extremely powerful too.

The Dreaming Celestial, the slumbering giant among the Celestials, holds power as deep as the chaos at the dawn of the universe. Even the brightest star among the Celestials is only a faint speck of light before him, unable to reach a ten-thousandth of his might.

The Celestials on Earth who consider themselves so mighty could pour all their power together into a river, and it would still be nothing but dust to be brushed aside by one casual wave of the Dreaming Celestial's hand. It couldn't slow him down in the slightest.

In the vast Marvel cosmos, the Dreaming Celestial seems to rank below only the supreme One Above All.

Then there's the Primordial Beyonder, a being all of creation holds in awe. He has transcended the forms of life and become pure energy incarnate.

Under his control, atoms and molecules are building blocks to arrange as he pleases. The life or death of the entire multiverse is, to him, a matter of a snap of the fingers.

His power is beyond imagining, the most unfathomable source of power in the Marvel Universe. Even the Five Great Gods can hardly compare to a being like that.

By comparison, the forces that stir up trouble across the universe, like the Dynasty of Kangs, the Council of Reeds and God Emperor Doom, are barely worth mentioning next to the Dreaming Celestial and the Primordial Beyonder.

They might make waves in certain specific arenas. But before these true cosmic powers, their strength is a mantis raising its arms against a chariot: they simply don't know their limits.

If the Kang Dynasty is the villain for Avengers 5 and 6 in the movie universe, the gods Ethan had just listed probably wouldn't show up until Avengers 20 or 30.

Ethan was willing to call his previous self, Chen Ye, the strongest human in Marvel, because not a single one of those beings was human.

Ethan was very curious what his previous self had been trying to do, to bring a whole crowd of gods down on him at once.

Consider this. Even when Deadpool killed the Marvel Universe, or when the Dynasty of Kangs tried to conquer the multiverse, these gods never got involved.

To them, those bids to rule the universe were just children playing house.

So what had Chen Ye done to make this whole host of gods gang up on him?

Ethan had a faint guess, but he couldn't be sure.

Whatever Chen Ye had done, it must have touched the universe's deepest secrets and crossed a taboo that even the gods feared.

Still, his previous self's power went beyond anything Ethan had imagined. At the very least, Ethan couldn't match it right now.

He longed to get the answer from Loki.

Perhaps Loki saw what he was thinking. He shook his head. "I don't know. And I can't know."

Seeing Ethan's disappointed expression, Loki suddenly waved a hand, and an envelope appeared out of thin air.

"Perhaps Chen Ye can give you the answer you're looking for."
