Chapter 231: Kamen Rider Legendorga, and the Complete Book of Dark Magic
Twenty-four Family members. One slot left.
Ethan turned this over while Toomes was still banking over the rooftops. The System had never been subtle about milestone thresholds — the jump from nineteen to twenty had unlocked the Homestead and the Fortress simultaneously, two capabilities that had changed what Hell's Kitchen was in a fundamental way. Whatever was waiting at twenty-five was presumably in the same category.
He was curious. More immediately, he had Family Points to spend.
Might as well before New Mexico.
"Ten-pull," he said inwardly.
The familiar sequence ran.
「DING!」「Congratulations, Host! You have received: Senzu Beans (1 bottle)!」「Better Luck Next Time!」「Better Luck Next Time!」「Congratulations, Host! The item descriptions cascaded through his awareness.
Senzu Beans (bottle) — Dragon Ball. Restores any injury instantly. Go ahead and fight recklessly — you've earned it.
Kusuo Saiki's Enhanced Hair Clip — from The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. Suppresses any supernatural ability when worn. With it on, you're a completely ordinary person, regardless of what's living inside you. Take it off to access your powers.
Legend Driver — Kamen Rider. A belt forged in tribute to a certain someone's admiration for Ming. With it, you can transform into Kamen Rider Legendorga — and use any Rider's form as your own. Someone out there is getting their account hacked tonight.
Legend Sublimation Unit — Kamen Rider. Combine with the Legend Driver to access the ultimate form of any Rider. Sougo's Grand Zi-O, all twenty Heisei primary Riders? Consider it done. Legendary Legendorga awaits.
Complete Legend Card Set — Kamen Rider. Every Rider's card, in one collection. Combined with the Legend Driver: become anyone. Let Ming know what it feels like to watch his own identity used against him.
Complete Book of Dark Magic — from Jackie Chan Adventures. Every spell from every dark sorcerer and demon, accumulated across history. Includes command authority over the Shadow Corps. Missing Palworld creatures? The Shadow Corps has you covered.
The knowledge arrived the way System-granted knowledge always did — complete, structured, immediately integrated. The Dark Magic in particular settled into him differently than most things; it had texture, depth, a certain weight that didn't feel like his own and also already felt completely natural.
"Something's different about you," Magneto said, from across the office.
"I'm fine," Ethan said. "Better than fine, actually."
His eyes had a quality to them that they hadn't had thirty seconds ago — darker at the edges, attentive in a way that suggested the room had acquired new dimensions. He filed the sensation away and assessed what he had.
The hair clip first. He looked at it. It was exactly what the description said — antenna-shaped, unmistakably the prop from the anime, the kind of thing that would get you laughed at in any setting that didn't understand what it did.
He thought about the people in this building who needed it.
Ben Grimm, who hated his own body and had been coming to the school for treatment. Jean Grey, who'd nearly gone Dark Phoenix. Bruce Banner, carrying the Hulk like a bomb he couldn't disarm. The clip couldn't solve all of those problems, but for anyone who wanted an off-switch — a way to move through the world as themselves, on their own terms, and only reach for the power when they chose to — this was significant.
Only one clip. But Banner and Tony together could reverse-engineer anything.
He'd deal with that shortly.
The Legend Driver, though.
Ethan picked it up and turned it over. The belt had the particular quality of something that had been designed by someone who appreciated showmanship — gold, elaborate, the specific aesthetic of a Rider who had decided that having every other Rider's power was not sufficient and had also decided to look good while deploying it.
Kamen Rider Legendorga. He'd seen exactly one appearance before transmigration, and his primary takeaway had been: this is the most aggressively opulent Rider they have ever made. Full gold suit. Built on Decade's framework. Grand Zi-O's throne-room energy but turned up past the point of reasonable restraint. The kind of form that existed to make a statement.
He was not complaining.
Sorry, Eternal, he thought, genuinely. You're still good. You're just not this.
And then the specific thought that had been building since he read the description: Kuroto Dan — Ming, the self-proclaimed God of Game Creation, Kamen Rider Ex-Aid's central antagonist, the man who had built Kamen Rider Chronicle as a death game and considered himself the author of reality itself — had his entire identity as a Rider built into the Legend Driver.
Ethan was going to transform into Ming's Rider form in front of him.
He was going to do this.
He didn't know exactly when. But he was going to.
Magneto was still watching him with the measured attention of someone who has noticed a shift and is deciding how to categorize it.
"What just happened?" Magneto asked.
"Upgrades," Ethan said. He set the hair clip on the desk. "Get this to Banner. Tell him it suppresses abilities entirely when worn, and to study the mechanism. I want multiples within the month." He picked up the Legend Driver. "I have to go to New Mexico."
Toomes swept back through the window at that moment, landed with a wingspan-adjustment that knocked over exactly one chair, and looked at Ethan with the expression of a man who has just done the thing he always knew he was capable of and is still processing the fact that it actually happened.
"Mr. Cross," Toomes said. "I — thank you. Whatever you need from me, whatever Hell's Kitchen needs from me, I'm here."
"Right now," Ethan said, "I need you to deliver that to Banner. The clip on the desk. Tell him what I told you."
He looked at Magneto.
"Don't add any new courses while I'm gone."
Magneto's expression communicated that he would take this under advisement.
Ethan left.
