Chapter 98 - Chapter : The Glass and the Gold

Previously on Watcher of the Infinite...

They have found where we are hiding. The sanctuary is compromised. Thousands of soldiers, a dark legion of the Void, have been sent with one objective: to capture us. The stakes have never been higher. We are hunted, trapped in a corner of the multiverse, but the God of Wisdom's prophecy remains: Help is on the way.

At miles away, the sound reached us—a low, rhythmic thrumming of a multitude of soldiers. They didn't need vehicles; they moved through flickering Void Portals, stepping across continents as if they were puddles. Then, she appeared. The Time Punisher, now the Dark Avatar of Lucifer, fueled by the corrupted prototype of the Genesis Core.

"Well, well, well," she sneered, her voice vibrating with violet lightning. "See who we have here. Pendo... is your dad still running to save you? Or has he finally realized you are just a memory? An engine glitch I inserted into Carel's mind?"

Her words were poison. She told me I was never meant to exist. Anger, hot and pure, ignited the positive tachyons in my marrow. In zero seconds, I crossed the distance. I hit her with a sonic blow that sent the Dark Avatar flying toward the Great Wall of China. Before she could land, I was there, hitting her again, sending her like a missile into a Russian army base. I carried her across the globe to Washington, D.C., seeing for a moment the peace people lived in—a peace I was fighting to protect. With one final, localized punch of rage, I sent her back to the Kenyan soil where we started.

"Are you done?" she hissed. Then, she froze time.

I was no longer a goddess of speed. I was a normal child again, small and helpless. She beat me with dark fists, throwing me not into a time corridor, but through the heavy glass and concrete of a Nairobi skyscraper. As I lay in the debris of my city, my voice cracked as I screamed into the sky: "Will I win this battle?!"

The dust of the collapsed building tasted like cement and old memories. My ears were ringing, a high-pitched whine that drowned out the screams of the people on the streets below. For a moment, the "Fastest Woman Alive" was gone. I was just Pendo, a girl bleeding on a pile of rubble in the middle of a Nairobi office block, surrounded by shattered glass and broken desks. The city I loved was becoming my tomb.

The Time Punisher descended from the hole in the ceiling, her violet armor glowing with a predatory hunger. She didn't use speed; she walked toward me with the heavy, arrogant gait of someone who had already won. Every step she took left a scorched footprint on the carpet, the smell of burning synthetic fibers mixing with the heavy scent of ozone.

"Do you feel it now?" she asked, her voice echoing through the empty, darkened office space. "The weight of a life you weren't supposed to have? Carel didn't create you out of love, Pendo. He created you out of a desperate glitch in the chronal engine. You are a ghost wearing a human face, a memory I planted to keep him distracted while the real world burned."

I tried to stand, but my legs felt like lead. The positive tachyons were flickering out, suppressed by the dark radiation coming from her Core. I looked out the shattered window. Below, the dark-matter army was pouring out of portals in City Hall Way, their violet eyes turning the night into a nightmare. They moved through the streets like a black tide, ignoring the traffic lights and the abandoned cars.

"I am real," I whispered, coughing up a cloud of grey dust. "I feel the pain. I feel the fear for my people. That makes me real."

[ADVANCED RAW SYSTEM: CRITICAL VITAL FAILURE]

USER:Pendo (The Watcher's Daughter).

STATUS:Tachyon Depletion / Internal Hemorrhaging.

POWER LEVEL:Dropped to Human Baseline (Level 0).

VITAL SIGNS:Heart rate erratic / Oxygen saturation falling.

SENG NOTE:Wueh! Pendo, amka! Get up! She's playing with your mind, maze! The "Glitch" story is a lie to break your spirit. If you believe you aren't real, the tachyons will leave you for good. Look at the streets—Nairobi is watching you! You are the daughter of the fastest man to ever live. Don't let this 'Avatar' take your city! If you fall here, the Rift Valley becomes a grave!

The Time Punisher reached down and grabbed me by the throat, lifting me off the ground. Her hand was cold—so cold it felt like it was freezing the blood in my veins, a frost that crawled up my neck.

"I'm going to end the glitch," she snarled, her eyes glowing with a malicious violet light.

She pulled back a fist wreathed in dark matter, ready to shatter my skull. I closed my eyes, thinking of my father's face, thinking of the "scent of rain" the woman in the cave carried. I didn't want to die a ghost. I wanted to die a Kenyan.

BOOM.

The sound didn't come from the Time Punisher. It came from the sky above the KICC spire.

A bolt of blue-white lightning, purer than anything I had ever seen, tore through the roof of the skyscraper. It didn't hit me; it slammed directly into the Time Punisher, throwing her across the room and through the opposite wall. The impact sent a shockwave through the building that shattered every remaining window from the 20th floor down to the lobby.

I fell to the floor, gasping for air. But the air didn't taste like dust anymore. It tasted like... Hope. It tasted like the first rain after a long January drought.

I looked up through the hole in the roof. Standing in the center of the room wasn't my father. It was a man wearing a tattered Watcher's cloak, his eyes glowing with the silver light of a thousand timelines. Beside him stood a woman with a sword made of frozen time, and a warrior whose armor was etched with symbols I recognized from the Suswa caves. And behind them, a dozen more—Watchers from Earth-2, Earth-16, and Earth-Prime.

"Who... who are you?" I stammered, my voice barely a whisper.

The man in the cloak looked at me, and for the first time, I saw a reflection of my own stubborn jawline in his eyes.

"We are the help that was promised," he said, his voice a chorus of a thousand versions of himself. "And you, Pendo, are no glitch. You are the heartbeat of the Multiverse. You are the reason we found our way home."

[SYSTEM INTERFACE: OMEGA REINFORCEMENTS ACTIVE]

ENTITIES:The Council of Watchers (The Unseen).

THREAT LEVEL:Neutralized.

AREA EFFECT:Chronal Restoration (Nairobi is being 'locked' in time to prevent further collateral damage).

ENERGY SIGNATURE:100% Purity / Multiversal Synchronization.

SYSTEM NOTE:MAZE! Look at the sky! It's the backup! The Watchers aren't just one man—they are a legion! Carel found them! He actually did it! Pendo, your ancestors from every corner of the infinite are here to back you up. The Time Punisher just brought a knife to an atomic bomb fight. Get ready... the real war starts now! They are coming from the rifts, and they look hungry for justice!

The Time Punisher scrambled out of the rubble, her violet armor cracked and sparking with dying energy. She looked at the army of Watchers, her arrogance replaced by a frantic, jagged fear. She realized that she wasn't facing a child anymore; she was facing a legacy.

"You're late," she hissed, her voice cracking like dry wood. "Lucifer is already a Titan! He has the Dark Core! He is already at the gates of Suswa!"

The man in the cloak stepped forward, the floor beneath him glowing gold with every footfall. "Then it is a fair fight. We have dealt with Titans before. But we have never seen a runner with your heart."

I felt a warm hand on my shoulder. It was the woman with the time-sword. She smiled, and I felt my tachyons jump back to 100% in a single heartbeat. It was like a surge of electricity running from my toes to my hair.

"Stand up, Pendo," she whispered, her voice like a calm wind. "The city of Nairobi needs its daughter to lead the charge. The Watchers provide the light, but you provide the speed."

I stood up. I wasn't a normal child anymore. I was the bridge between the gold and the glass, the defender of the 254 and the Guardian of the Infinite. I looked at the Time Punisher, and this time, I was the one who smiled as my eyes began to glow with golden fire.

"You said I was a memory," I said, my voice echoing like thunder over the Ngong Hills. "Now, let's see if you can survive the memory of everyone you've ever tried to erase. Let's see if your darkness can handle the sun of a thousand Kenyas."

I hit the 4th Phase. The skyscraper didn't just vibrate; it turned into a pillar of pure, solid light that could be seen all the way from Mombasa.

[SYSTEM STATUS: THE TIDE HAS TURNED]

PENDO:Power Restored (4th Phase: Chronal Fusion).

SENG NOTE:This is it! 100% completion energy! We have the numbers, we have the light, and we have the heart of Kenya behind us. Pendo, take the Time Punisher out for good! The Council will handle the small fry in the streets. Let's show Lucifer why you don't mess with the Watchers on their home turf! Tunasonga mbele!
