Chapter 95 - Chapter : The Echo of the Speed Force

Previously on Watcher of the infinite...

My name is Pendo. I am a Speedster, and my father is the fastest man to ever slow down the hands of time. He vanished into the Void to save us, leaving behind nothing but a promise and a teaching: Keep running, no matter what, and one day you will save the future. I took that inspiration and fueled the positively charged tachyons in my marrow. I opened the third phase of my power—a state so rare most runners only dream of it. By vibrating my molecules to the frequency of empty space, I passed through the solid walls of my prison. I am Pendo, the fastest woman alive.

I reached that hidden valley, a place draped in darkness, but I saw a light. It wasn't the sun; it was her. The woman. She was a beacon in the shadows. As she approached me, she touched my skin, and the agony of my escape vanished. It usually takes five hours for a speedster's metabolism to knit a wound, but her touch cleansed me instantly.

"You are safe," she told me. "I see the grief in your mind. You have lost what you call hope."

She touched my forehead, and suddenly, the valley disappeared. I was in a vision, looking into the corridors of time. I saw him—my father—running through the chronal slip. His voice echoed through the ages: "I am going back to fix time. I'm going to a place where you'll never lose your mom, where you'll be free to live like a normal child. Pendo, wherever you are, I love you."

Tears fell from my cheeks. That message broke me, but the woman held me steady. She told me everything would be okay—that I must have faith in him and in what the future is promising.

The silence of the Rift Valley escarpment was heavy, but it was no longer cold. The light emanating from the woman—the carrier of the True Seed—wrapped around us like a warm blanket, shielding us from the necrotic sensors of the mountain above. I looked at her, my breath finally coming back in steady rhythms. She wasn't just a woman; she was a living sanctuary.

"My father... he's in the past?" I whispered, my voice cracking. I looked out toward the distant lights of Nairobi, flickering like dying embers on the horizon. "He's trying to change everything? But the Elder Elena said changing the past creates a fracture. It's what started the Mirror Earths in the first place. If he saves Mom in 2012, does this world even exist anymore?"

The woman smiled, a gentle, sad expression that made her look like she had lived a thousand lives. Her hands, calloused like those of a woman who had spent years tilling the red soil of Central Kenya, rested peacefully on her stomach. "Time is not a straight line, Pendo. It is a river. Your father is trying to build a dam to stop the flood of darkness, but he doesn't realize the water has already found a new path. He is safe, but he is trapped in the very love that drives him. He believes that by saving your mother, he saves you. He doesn't see that you have already saved yourself."

I looked down at my hands. They were still humming with a faint, golden glow. The 3rd Phase. I had achieved molecular phasing—the ability to move through solid matter—not through anger or the "Negative Speed Force" the Evil Speedster used, but through the desperate need to find the truth. My skin felt electric, the air around me smelling of ozone and the scorched scent of high-velocity friction.

[ADVANCED RAW SYSTEM: KINETIC EVOLUTION DETECTED]

USER:Pendo (The Second Watcher).

STATUS:3rd Phase Phasing Active / Tachyon Purity: 98%.

HEALING STATUS:Instantaneous (Source: Genesis Contact).

VISION DATA:Chronal Corridor confirmed. Carel (The Watcher) is currently in Year 2012 / Branch: Earth-Prime.

SYSTEM NOTE:Buda, things are shifting! Pendo is no longer just a kid; she's becoming a Prime Runner. The healing she got from that woman didn't just fix her skin; it supercharged her cells. But listen, if Carel changes 2012, this whole version of Nairobi disappears. Pendo will be a 'normal child,' but the Mirror Earths will collapse without their Watcher. It's a paradox of the heart! Can she stay in a world that might not exist in an hour?

Suddenly, the ground beneath us groaned. It wasn't an earthquake; it was a rhythmic thumping, like a giant heart beating against the crust of the earth. From the direction of the Aberdare forest, a massive shadow began to stretch across the valley, moving faster than any natural cloud. The local wildlife—the gazelles and zebras that usually roamed these plains—bolted in a frantic stampede, their instincts screaming that death had arrived.

"He is coming," I said, my hair standing on end. I could feel the static in the air—cold, dead electricity that tasted like copper and old graves. "The Shadow King. Zombie Dracula Supreme. He's found my vibration signature. My phasing left a trail of "Phase-Dust" that he can sniff out like a hound."

The woman didn't panic. She stood tall, her presence grounding the very air around us. She placed her hand on her stomach, where the Genesis Seed pulsed in harmony with the earth. It was a rhythm that matched the deep drums of a traditional ceremony—steady, ancient, and unbreakable.

"He cannot enter this circle of light yet, Pendo, but his shadow is long. He will circle us until the sun fails, and then he will feast. You are the only one fast enough to lead him away. You must be the decoy while I reach the God of Wisdom's cavern near the Suswa caves."

"I can't leave you!" I protested, my eyes filling with sparks. "He's a necrotic lord! If he catches you, he'll turn that Seed into a weapon of the Void!"

"He cannot kill what he cannot touch," she replied calmly, her voice as steady as the flow of the Tana River. "But he can consume the hope of this world if he finds the Seed before it is synchronized with the Genesis Core. You saw your father in the corridor. Use that love. Not to go back to a ghost of a mother you barely remember, but to stay here. Be the Watcher of this moment. Protect the Nairobi that is still breathing."

I closed my eyes and breathed in the scent of the rain-drenched soil, the dry grass of the savannah, and the distant, smoky aroma of charcoal fires from the nearby villages. That was the world my father loved. That was the world I was born to protect. I didn't want a "perfect" 2012. I wanted this Kenya.

I felt the positive tachyons ignite. This time, it wasn't a flicker; it was a roar. My heart rate climbed—100, 500, 1000 beats per minute.

[SYSTEM INTERFACE: DECOY PROTOCOL INITIATED]

THREAT:Zombie Dracula Supreme (Approaching at Mach 4).

OBJECTIVE:Lead the Shadow King away from the Genesis Carrier.

STRATEGY:Use High-Frequency Vibration to create 'Speed Mirages'.

DANGER LEVEL:BEYOND MEASURE.

SENG NOTE:Pendo, kaza butu! You are the fastest woman alive, but this vampire guy moves through the dark like a ghost. He doesn't run; he 'glides' through the folds of space. Don't let him corner you in the rocky gullies. Use the open plains of the Rift. Keep your frequency high, or he will phase his cold, dead hand right into your heart. Run, Pendo! Run for your father's legacy!

I opened my eyes, and they were glowing like twin suns, casting long, golden shadows across the red dirt. I didn't say goodbye. In the world of a Speedster, goodbyes take too long. I turned toward the approaching darkness and accelerated.

The world slowed down to a crawl. The falling leaves of the acacia trees froze in mid-air, suspended like golden ornaments. The wind became a solid, viscous wall that I sliced through with a flick of my shoulders. I wasn't just running on the ground; I was running on the very fabric of reality, my feet leaving scorched footprints that turned the soil into glass.

Behind me, I heard a screech that shattered the silence of the valley—a sound like rusted metal grinding against bone.

Zombie Dracula Supreme had arrived.

He was a towering figure of rotting velvet and obsidian bone, his cape billowing out like the wings of a giant bat, blocking out the stars. His eyes were two dying embers of a forest fire, hungry and ancient. He didn't run; he simply was behind me, his form flickering in and out of existence as he bypassed the laws of physics.

"Come and get me, you walking corpse!" I shouted, my voice echoing through the Speed Force like a clap of thunder.

I leaned into the curve of the escarpment, heading toward the Longonot crater. I was a blur of gold against the purple sky, a streak of defiance leading the apocalypse away from the only hope we had left. The friction of my movement began to ionize the air, creating a trail of golden lightning that danced behind me.

Every time he got close, his cold breath reaching for my heels, I would vibrate my body at a different pitch. I created "Speed Mirages"—three, four, five versions of myself branching off in different directions across the plains. The Shadow King roared in frustration, his necrotic claws tearing through the after-images, finding only empty air and the scent of ozone.

"You're too slow for a God of the Dead!" I taunted.

But I could feel my energy draining. Maintaining the 3rd Phase while running at Mach 5 was like trying to hold a sun in a paper bag. My muscles burned, and the "Positive Tachyon" reserves were beginning to flicker. I looked toward the mountains, praying the woman had reached the God of Wisdom.

Far in the distance, I saw a pulse of amber light from the deep caves. The synchronization had started.

"Pendo, wherever you are... I love you," my father's voice whispered one last time in the static of my ears.

"I love you too, Dad," I whispered, my feet hitting the ground with enough force to create a sonic boom that echoed from Naivasha to Nairobi. "But I'm staying here. I'm finishing the race."

I pushed harder, breaking the Mach 6 barrier. The world turned into a tunnel of pure light. I wasn't just a runner anymore. I was the Watcher.

[SYSTEM STATUS: THE HARE AND THE HOUND]

PENDO VELOCITY:7,400 mph (Terminal Velocity reached).

SHADOW KING DISTANCE:Intermittent / Phasing through the Rift.

GENESIS CARRIER STATUS:Inside the Sanctum. Syncing with Genesis Core: 45%.

SYSTEM NOTE:She's doing it! She's taking the hit for the whole world. But the Shadow King is getting angry. He's stopped chasing the mirages. He's locking onto her soul-frequency. Pendo, you need to find a way to dump that momentum before you burn up! The 72-hour clock is still ticking at the summit, and the Evil Speedster is realizing his dog has lost the scent. Hang on, Pendo!
