Chapter 27 - Episode 27: The Truth That Changed Everything

The air felt heavier than before.

Not because of the danger.

But because of the truth—

That had finally begun to surface.

Sasmita stood still.

Her mind trying to process everything at once.

He erases identities.

He was sent.

Nothing about him was what she thought.

And yet—

She couldn't look away.

"By who?" she asked again.

This time—

Her voice didn't shake.

But her heart did.

Aarav looked at her.

For a long moment.

Because this answer—

Would change everything.

"You don't need to know that," he said quietly.

That wasn't the answer she wanted.

"That's not your choice anymore," Sasmita replied.

Her eyes hardened.

"If you're involved in my life—"

"If you're part of this—"

A step closer.

"Then I deserve the truth."

Silence.

Because she was right.

Aarav exhaled slowly.

Then—

"For your grandmother's company," he said.

The words landed.

Sasmita froze.

"What?"

"I was sent to watch," he continued.

Her mind stilled.

"To protect?" she asked.

A faint pause.

"No."

The answer came without hesitation.

"To observe."

The word cut deeper than anything else.

Because it meant—

He wasn't there for her.

Not at the start.

Sasmita took a step back again.

This time—

She felt it.

The distance.

Real.

Painful.

"So everything…" she whispered,

"…was planned?"

Aarav didn't answer.

Because the silence—

Was enough.

Her chest tightened.

"Even the contract?" she asked.

A pause.

"Yes."

That was it.

The breaking point.

Because now—

Every moment she thought was real—

Felt questioned.

Every word.

Every action.

Even him.

Sasmita laughed softly.

Not out of humor.

But disbelief.

"I chose you," she said.

Her voice cracked slightly.

"And you were already there."

Aarav's gaze didn't leave her.

"I didn't plan that," he said.

But the words—

Didn't fix anything.

"You didn't stop it either," she replied.

Silence.

Because he couldn't deny that.

The second lead watched everything, clearly satisfied.

"This is what happens," he said softly,

"when you trust the wrong person."

Sasmita's eyes shut for a brief second.

Because for the first time—

That sentence hurt.

When she opened them again—

Something had changed.

Not broken.

But colder.

Sharper.

"Get out."

The words came quietly.

But clearly.

The man smiled faintly.

"I already got what I needed," he said.

And just like that—

He left.

Silence returned.

But this time—

It was unbearable.

Sasmita didn't look at Aarav.

Because if she did—

She might hesitate.

And she couldn't afford that anymore.

"Was anything real?" she asked.

The question—

Simple.

But devastating.

Aarav didn't answer immediately.

Because the truth—

Was complicated.

"Yes."

The word came low.

Honest.

But it wasn't enough.

Sasmita shook her head slightly.

"I don't know what to believe anymore," she said.

Her voice—

Soft.

But tired.

"You asked for time," she continued.

A pause.

"I gave you trust instead."

And now—

She didn't have either.

Aarav stepped forward.

Instinct.

But she stepped back instantly.

"Don't," she said.

The word—

Sharp.

Final.

That one step—

Said everything.

Because this time—

The distance wasn't hesitation.

It was a wall.

"Stay away from me," she said quietly.

The words hit harder than anything before.

Because this time—

They weren't about the contract.

They were personal.

Aarav didn't move.

Didn't argue.

Because he understood.

This was the consequence.

Of the truth.

Sasmita turned away.

Because standing there—

Was too much.

And for the first time—

She walked away from him.

Not because she had to.

But because she chose to.

Aarav stood there alone.

Silent.

Unmoving.

Because for the first time—

He hadn't lost a fight.

But he had lost something else.

Something far more important.
