Chapter 8 - Chapter 7: Chocolate Chaos

The moment Jay Jay stepped into Section E

Chaos.

Paper balls everywhere. Half the class yelling, half arguing, and the rest just watching like it was daily entertainment.

"Bro, I'm telling you it's NOT like that!"

"It IS like that!"

"Then explain it!"

"I don't need to explain what's obvious"

Jay Jay paused at the entrance, chocolate still in her hand.

…What did I walk into?

For a split second

Every eye turned to her.

Silence didn't fall. It just… dipped.

Then just as quickly

Everything went back to normal.

Like she wasn't even there.

"…Right," she muttered under her breath and stepped in.

Beside her, CN casually walked in like this was home, still eating his chocolate.

And that's when

Felix noticed.

His eyes widened.

"Chocolate?"

A pause.

Then louder

"CHOCOLATE?!"

Instant reaction.

Heads snapped. Eyes locked.

"Where?"

"WHO HAS CHOCOLATE?"

Felix pointed dramatically. "THEM."

Jay Jay froze.

CN blinked.

Big mistake.

"GIVE."

"Share."

"Distribute equally, we believe in socialism."

"CN, hand it over."

CN immediately pointed at Jay Jay. "She has more."

Jay Jay turned to him slowly.

Traitor.

"I have ONE," she said, holding it up.

They didn't care.

They moved.

Jay Jay stepped back.

"Hey

no"

Another step back.

"Don't even try"

More hands reached.

She lifted her hand higher, trying to keep it out of reach.

"Guys seriously—"

She kept stepping back

Didn't notice

Until

She hit something.

Or someone.

Before she could turn

A hand moved past her.

Effortless.

Clean.

The chocolate was gone.

Jay Jay blinked.

Slowly turned.

Keifer.

Standing right behind her.

Holding her chocolate.

Like it belonged to him. (a/n not keifyy baby taking advantage of his height)

"…What the—"

She stared at her empty hand, then at him.

"You just—"

He didn't even look guilty.

Didn't even look amused.

Just unwrapped it.

Took a bite.

And then looked at her.

Jay Jay was fully staring now. "Did you seriously just"

"Too slow," he said flatly.

That was it.

That was his explanation.

Behind them

"OHHHHH—"

"BETRAYAL!"

"Justice for chocolate!"

"Give us at least one bite!"

But it was too late.

The damage was done.

Jay Jay stepped forward. "You could've asked."

He tilted his head slightly. "Would you have given it?"

"…No."

"Exactly."

She opened her mouth—

Closed it.

Annoying.

Before she could continue—

"Class."

Sir Alvin.

Like magic—

Everyone scattered back to their seats.

Jay Jay shot one last look at Keifer.

He was already walking away like nothing happened.

Gago.

Attendance started.

Names. Responses. Half-awake voices.

Then

A pause.

"…Yuri Hanamichi."

No response.

"…David Theodore Braselton."

Still nothing.

Jay Jay frowned slightly.

Yuri… I've heard.

But David?

She leaned a little toward CN.

"Who's David?"

CN didn't even hesitate. "Grandpa David."

"…What?"

"The former class president."

She blinked. "Then who's the current one?"

CN looked at her like it was obvious.

She turned her head slightly.

Looked ahead.

Keifer.

"…Gago," she muttered.

CN leaned closer. "Who's Gago?"

She said it casually.

"Him. Keifer."

A pause.

Then

CN's eyes widened.

And before Jay could stop him

"YOU'RE CALLING KEIFER GAGO?!"

Loud.

Very loud.

Too loud.

The class went silent for a second

Then

"OHHHH—"

"Dead."

"She's dead."

Jay froze.

Slowly.

Very slowly

She turned her head.

Keifer was already looking at her.

That same stare.

Sharp. Direct.

"What did you call me?"

Jay held his gaze.

"…G

  A

 G

  O "

A beat.

Then the class exploded.

"WHOA"

"NO WAY"

"Say it again!"

Sir Alvin's voice cut in.

"Miss Mariano."

Jay straightened slightly.

"I am still standing here."

Silence.

Immediate.

"Sit properly. This is not a playground."

"Yes, sir," a few voices mumbled.

The class settled.

But not completely.

Jay looked ahead again.

Keifer was still staring.

Didn't look away.

Didn't react.

Just… watching.

She turned her gaze forward.

Why is he even the class president…

Her thoughts drifted.

But she didn't miss it

That stare.

Still there.

Keifer was still staring.

Didn't blink.

Didn't look away.

Just… there.

Jay held his gaze for a second.

Then

She made a face.

A quick one.

Tongue out. Slightly mocking.

Childish. Petty.

Perfect.

A few people nearby noticed

"AYO!!"

"Did she just?"

Keifer didn't react.

Not even a twitch.

Which somehow

Was more annoying.

Jay turned back instantly, acting like nothing happened.

Why is he like that?

The periods dragged.

Not slow—just… noisy.

Between classes

That stare didn't stop.

Once—she looked up

He was already looking.

Again

Same thing.

And then one time

He wasn't.

And for some reason

That annoyed her more.

Why do I even care?

Beside her, CN was talking.

Nonstop.

"…and then I told him, no, that's not even how it works—like imagine doing that—"

Jay blinked.

"…what?"

CN paused. "You weren't listening, were you?"

"…No."

"Wow. Fake friend."

She leaned back. "We're not even friends."

"Rude."

He went right back to talking.

"…anyway, so if he falls again, I'm not helping—"

Jay tuned out again.

Peace.

Break.

The second it was announced

Noise again.

People getting up, shouting, moving around.

CN got distracted instantly, talking to someone across the room.

Perfect.

Jay stood quietly.

Waited.

One step.

Another.

No one noticed.

Good.

She slipped out.

Hallway.

Quieter.

Finally.

She exhaled.

Freedom.

She turned the corner

And

"BOO."

Jay flinched.

Hard.

"WHAT THE"

CN was right behind her, laughing.

"You should've seen your face"

"Are you insane?!" she snapped, hand on her chest.

"Maybe."

She glared at him. "Why are you here?"

He shrugged. "You left."

"So?"

"So I followed."

"…Why?"

He grinned.

"Treat."

She stared.

"Absolutely not."

"Please."

"No."

"We're teammates."

She frowned. "Since when?"

"Since now."

"That's not how it works."

"It is today."

"…You're unbelievable."

"I know."

A pause.

He just stood there.

Waiting.

Jay sighed.

"…Fine."

Instant switch.

"YES"

He side-hugged her quickly.

"Best decision you've ever made."

"Don't touch me."

Too late.

He was already walking ahead.

Canteen.

Not too crowded.

Manageable.

They stepped in

And

"Jay?"

She turned.

Rakkhi.

JJ straightened slightly. "Hey."

Rakkhi smiled. "How's Section E?"

JJ opened her mouth

Before

"Rakkhi, you won't ask how I am?" CN cut in.

Rakkhi rolled her eyes. "You're alive. That's enough."

JJ noticed it immediately

CN went quiet for a second.

Then

He smiled.

But

There was something off.

Why is this kid acting like that…

Rakkhi turned back to Jay.

"What are you getting?"

"I don't know."

"Don't take the sandwich. It's bad today. Fries are better."

Jay nodded. "Okay."

CN was still there.

Weirdly quiet.

Then

"Rakkhi"

"Not now," she cut him off.

Two girls called from behind

"Rakkhi! Come!"

"Yeah, coming Mia, Mica, wait!"

She looked back at Jay. "I'll see you later."

"Yeah."

And she left.

Jay looked at CN.

"…You okay?"

"I'm always okay," he said quickly.

Too quickly.

She didn't push.

Their order arrived.

They picked it up

And turned

Just as Section E walked in.

Loud.

Of course.

Felix spotted them instantly.

"AYYY CN!"

"Over here!"

CN looked at Jay. "Let's go."

They started walking

But

"Only him."

Keifer's voice.

Not loud.

But clear.

Jay stopped.

CN looked back. "What?"

Keifer didn't move.

Didn't repeat.

Just looked at Jay

Then at CN.

The message was obvious.

Only Section E.

CN hesitated.

Jay didn't.

She was too hungry to argue.

"…Go," she said flatly.

And walked past them.

Didn't look back.
