Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: MacGyver

"Okay fine let's see what kind of trouble Angus MacGyver gets into these days," Oliver conceded with a smile. "But if he starts using a paperclip to defuse a nuclear weapon, I am switching to something with actual explosions." His free hand reached for his coffee mug again, taking another sip while keeping his arm firmly around Harper. "They actual Rebooted the series and created a new, more modern series," Harper commented casually and pulled up the image and description of the Rebooted version of MacGyver on the Prime Video. On the screen is the new actor who plays the role of MacGyver, Lucas Till, with his light brown, slightly tousled hair and a serious, focused expression. His eyebrows are furrowed, and his gaze is angled to the right as if he is assessing a dangerous situation. He wears a dark jacket, which contrasts with the bright background behind him.

From the bottom of the image on the TV screen there are vivid orange and yellow flames, rising up across MacGyvers torso. In the background a softly blurred city skyline stretches across the image. The buildings are bathed in warm light with a gradient sky transitioning from pale blue warmer tones near the horizon. The description reads; "MACGYVER, a reimagining of the classic series, is an action-adventure drama about Angus "Mac" MacGyver, who takes on the responsibility of saving the world, armed to the teeth with resourcefulness and little more than bubble gum and paper clip." Oliver's expression shifted from nostalgic amusement to genuine curiosity as the looked over the updated version details on the TV screen. "A modern MacGyver," he repeated thoughtfully, adjusting his potion on the couch to get a better view of the screen.

"Huh, I did not realize they had rebooted it. The actor playing MacGyver is much younger now." His arm tightened around her shoulder protectively as Harper plays the first episode, starting with a moody, twilight view of Lake Como in Italy. The dark blue ocean and the purple skyline look beautiful. The camera zooms in on the town illuminated by lights visible in windows along the waterfront. "You know," Oliver commented idly as he watched the scene suddenly jumps to the headlights of a sports car and then the camera tilts, so we see the driver-side door open upward and MacGyver climbs out of the car. "I remember being absolutely fascinated by how he could solve everything with duct tape and a paper clip. My friends and I used to practice making our own 'tools' out of household items."

Harper smiled nostalgically. "Yeah, MacGyver is pretty cool. I used to sit on my father's lap and watch it with him." She said softly, her eyes locked on the screen. Oliver's smile mirrored hers at their shared memory, his thumb brushing gently against her shoulder in a comforting gesture. "Of course you like it," he said warmly. "Anyone who loves problem-solving and finding creative solutions would be obsessed with that show." He settled further into the couch cushions, pulling her more snugly against his side. The familiarity of watching an old favourite together felt surprisingly domestic, like something couples did after years of dating rather than a few months into knowing each other. "The lead actor reminds me of someone," Oliver observed after a few minutes of watching the rebooted series. "He has got the same intense focus MacGyver always had, but without looking like he is about to break into song at any moment." His fingers continue their lazy circling motion on her arm, sending pleasant tingles through the silk fabric of her light blue nigh gown. The combined comfort of physical contact and shared entertainment created a relaxed atmosphere.

After two episodes, Harper yawned sleepily next to Oliver. "I think we should head to bed," she said tiredly. Oliver glanced down at her, noticing the way her eyelids were drooping despite her best efforts to stay awake. A soft smile touches his lips as he realized how late it had gotten. "Good call," he agreed quietly, reaching for the remote to pause the show and turn the TV off. "You are falling asleep on me, which is cute but probably not ideal for your neck." He carefully shifted her away from him just enough to stand up, extending a hand to help her off the couch. The too-short purple fluffy robe slipped slightly as he moved. "Come on, let's get you into bed before you pass out standing up," he said with gentle authority. His tone was warm but firm, clearly not wanting her to stumble or trip on her way to the bedroom. Once they were both on their feet, he guided her with a hand on the small of her back toward her bedroom.

Once inside Harpers bedroom, she closes the door and turns on one of the bedside lamps before turning the light off. The soft glow from the bedside lamp illuminated the bedroom in a warm, intimate light, casting gentle shadows across the space. Oliver followed her into the room, his bare feet silent on the wooden floorboards. "Better," he murmured, his voice taking on a lower, more intimate tone now that they were along in her personal space. "No distractions except us." He crossed to her bed and sat on the edge, patting the mattress beside him invitingly. The fluffy purple robe parted slightly as he moved, offering glimpses of his toned abdomen and chest. "You look exhausted," he observed gently, reaching out to brush a strand of auburn hair from her face. "Get under the covers before you collapse completely."

Harper smiled lazily and her hands moved to the collar of the purple fluffy robe. "You look so sexy in this. Like a slutty CEO," she said with a lightly joking tone. Oliver's blue eyes widened slightly at her bold assessment, a low chuckle vibrating in his chest. "Slutty CEO? Is that a new job title?" he questioned playfully, though the smirk tugging at his lips betrayed his amusement. His hands came up to cover hers where they rested on the collar of the purple fluffy robe.
