Chapter 144 - Chapter 144: Heading to the Battlefield

Urd naturally noticed the change in expressions on Krul and Luke's faces.

"It seems you two know something?"

Lest Karr Karr and Guren also shifted their gazes onto the two of them.

Luke explained the possibility of the Seraph to everyone, but avoided the fact that he possessed a sin key. After hearing it, Urd felt it made a lot of sense.

After preparing for a moment, Urd was ready to head out to find Rig and the Progenitor.

"Regardless of what the Progenitor's goal is, we cannot let him have his way."

Guren spoke up at this moment to ask a question.

"Then, are we going to join forces with Lord Rig?"

Urd remained silent for a long while, likely considering the feasibility of cooperating with that fellow Rig.

"He cannot be fully trusted. Let's find their location first."

The various Ancestors left Sanguinem. Because their opponent was only the Progenitor, non-ancestor Vampires would almost certainly be going to their deaths, so they did not bring any subordinates.

Before leaving, Luke quietly whispered something into Lacus's ear. Lacus then left with René, and only then did Luke rejoin the group.

Urd merely gave Luke a faint glance and then ignored him.

Lest Karr, however, still couldn't stand the sight of Luke and asked in a condescending tone.

"What did you have him do?"

A provocative expression appeared on Luke's face.

"Why on earth should I tell you?"

"You... Hmph, if you aren't of any help in dealing with the Progenitor, I'll personally twist your head off!"

"Wow, you're so great. I'll reward you with today's little red flower!"

Lest Karr was so infuriated by Luke's heartless attitude that he was speechless, his face turning as red as a cooked shrimp.

If Urd hadn't been present, he would have attacked Luke long ago. He had to let the newcomer know that the authority of the High-ranking Ancestors was not to be challenged!

After thinking it over, Lest Karr chose not to speak to Luke anymore. Guren smiled at Luke with a look of goodwill, but who knew where he was thinking of striking if they were to fight.

Seeing Lest Karr suffer a setback, Krul's mood was incredibly pleasant, a faint smile hanging on her face, beautiful yet understated.

"What do you think the situation is with that Seraph now?"

Luke came to Krul's side.

Krul thought for a moment and gave her opinion.

"Since it's the power of a Seraph, it means the sin key hasn't been removed yet. Rig wouldn't let an uncertain factor remain in his plan, so this Seraph at least won't engage in mindless slaughter like the ones we've seen before. Therefore, it's possible some kind of agreement was reached with Rig."

Luke looked at Krul in surprise and rubbed her head.

"You're really amazing to be able to think of so much!"

Krul's hair was rubbed into a mess, but Luke seemed to have no intention of stopping. Without hesitation, she reached out her devilish hand, pinched Luke's waist, and gave it a sudden twist!

Luke had no choice but to beg for mercy. Touching the spot on his waist where he was pinched, he looked worried again.

"...I suspect the last Seraph might be Akane..."

Krul didn't react to who that was for a short moment, pausing before remembering.

"That girl you searched for in Shibuya for a long time without finding any trace of?"

Luke nodded.

"I thought she was already dead, but now I'm hoping she's become this final Seraph. Of course, these are just my guesses."

..."Pah!"

At the Hyakuya Sect base, Bastia, who had been beaten unconscious by Krul, walked out of the wall clutching her head while constantly spitting out pebbles that had gotten into her mouth.

But as soon as she came out, she saw a piece of "cured meat" hanging in the center of the room.

Bastia's lip twitched. She walked up to Hiiragi Shinya and patted his face.

"Hey, are you dead or not?"

Hiiragi Shinya's voice was cold as he spoke to Bastia.

"Let me down first!"

Bastia swiped with her fingernails but found she couldn't cut through. Looking closely, she saw it was actually made of a special material.

Hiiragi Shinya gave a light snort.

"Heh, if you could cut it with just your hand, I wouldn't have been hanging here for so long."

Bastia rubbed her head. Having been beaten quite badly by Krul, she was still feeling dizzy and her mind wasn't very clear.

Hearing Shinya's blunt remark, Bastia couldn't help but frown.

"Am I the one saving you or are you saving yourself? Say another word and I'm leaving!"

Hiiragi Shinya remained silent; don't expect him to apologize to a Vampire.

Bastia used a sharp longsword to rescue Hiiragi Shinya. Afterward, she didn't say much to him and turned to walk toward the exit.

Hiiragi Shinya was confused and asked.

"Where are you going?"

Bastia didn't look back.

"To find Lord Rig."

Bastia's figure disappeared. Because Hiiragi Shinya had taken a bite out of Luke, he had consumed quite a bit of blood and was now incredibly energized.

Looking at the mess around him, Hiiragi Shinya decided that what the eye doesn't see, the heart doesn't grieve over, and he also walked outside.

However, he wasn't following Bastia to find Rig.

Based on some information Luke revealed while teasing him, he could judge that the other members of the Guren Squad shouldn't be dead yet. He had to think about how to save them.

After saving these friends he used to fight alongside, he would set out alone on the path of avenging Guren.

Poor Hiiragi Shinya. He didn't know that with the Progenitor's appearance, the landscape of Japan had already begun to change. His five-year harassment plan was completely unrealistic.

Hiiragi Shinya gripped the red and black japanese sword at his waist.

"Guren, will we win?"

The blade trembled slightly, and a familiar yet strange voice sounded in Shinya's heart.

"Oh? Are we finally going to have a serious battle? With me here, you can rest easy. Shinya, during the battle, praise Lord Guren's greatness more!"

A familiar voice, but a strange tone... Hiiragi Shinya felt a sense of unreality. He still hadn't fully accepted that the ghost Guren became after death would be like this.

But he probably didn't know that the technology mastered by the Hyakuya Sect was already sufficient for ghosts to retain their memories from life... What were Guren's intentions in this form?

"Shinya, be careful in everything. Do not let anger and hatred blind your eyes."

Compared to the somewhat conceited Guren, byakkomaru reminded Hiiragi Shinya to pay attention to his own safety.

"Thank you, byakkomaru. I'll be careful."

Now, byakkomaru was one of the few comforts in Hiiragi Shinya's broken life.

After Hiiragi Shinya finished communicating with his two cursed gear, he headed straight in the direction of Sanguinem.

Meanwhile, the consciousnesses of Guren and byakkomaru, which should have been silent, appeared in the same space.

Guren had two horns on his head and blood-red eyes, no different from a ghost. byakkomaru transformed from a tiger form into a human form, wearing a white tiger skin on his head, and stood facing Guren.

"Yo, colleague. Any advice?"

Guren spoke with a smile.

byakkomaru only asked coldly.

"You still remember, don't you?"

Guren maintained his smile, spreading his hands to indicate he didn't know what byakkomaru was talking about.

Demonic Aura surged from byakkomaru, and several phantom white tigers appeared, surrounding Guren.

"You have always been using Shinya, and even now, after becoming a ghost, you're still doing it! He has always regarded you as family!"

Guren's face stiffened, but after a moment of struggle, he regained his smile.

"I don't understand."

At times like this, the best way was to play dumb.

byakkomaru clenched his fists, his knuckles cracking. With a thought, he withdrew the phantoms of Demonic Aura.

"I'll be watching you. I won't let you hurt Shinya again!"

byakkomaru turned and vanished instantly. Tearing off the mask with Guren now would surely be noticed by Hiiragi Shinya, which would make things very difficult for him.

Guren put away his smile and stared blankly at the spot where byakkomaru had disappeared. Only after a long time did he murmur.

"I won't let Shinya be in danger either... but only by doing this can I save everyone..."

By the end, Guren's voice grew faint, with a hint of uncertainty in his tone.
