Chapter 55 - Chapter 55: The Welcoming Ceremony

Luke was on his way to Lord Ferid's mansion.

Luke thought for a moment; the Progenitors currently in Sanguinem included the Third Progenitor Krul Tepes, the Seventh Progenitor Ferid Bathory, the thirteenth progenitor Crowley Eusford, as well as Chess Belle and Horn Skuld, who were both Seventeenth Progenitors.

The other Progenitors were either active around Nagoya or scattered across the world.

Looking closely, Krul was completely fighting a lone battle!

Of the five Progenitors, excluding Krul and Ferid himself, the other three were all part of Ferid's faction.

Before he knew it, Luke had arrived at Lord Ferid's mansion.

Seeing the Lower-ranking Vampires standing at the gate, Luke was somewhat surprised.

Since when did a Progenitor need doormen?

The Lower-ranking Vampire also noticed Luke and quickly bowed in greeting.

"Lord Luke!"

Luke didn't pay much mind, nodding perfunctorily as he prepared to knock on the door.

The Lower-ranking Vampire nearby hurriedly spoke up to stop him.

"Lord Luke, Lord Ferid is currently feeding. Please wait outside for a moment."

Luke felt it was a bit strange.

"His feeding doesn't conflict with me looking for him."

After saying that, he knocked on the door.

The Lower-ranking Vampire didn't say anything more; he couldn't afford to offend either side.

After a long while, the door didn't open and there was no response. With Ferid's hearing, it was impossible for him not to have heard.

Luke couldn't help but frown.

Patiently, he knocked again, but there was still no reaction. He tried pushing the door; it was locked.

Luke gave a cold laugh.

"Quite the personality. I like it."

With a casual wave, he summoned his demon sword into his hand and directly cleaved the main gate open.

As fragments fell and dust billowed, Luke put away his demon sword under the dumbfounded gaze of the Lower-ranking Vampire and walked inside with his hands behind his back.

Luke had knocked first as a courtesy; since they didn't give him face, he could only resort to force.

"Yahallo, Mother Ferid, an old friend is here, aren't you going to come take a look?"

Walking into the great hall, Luke smelled the fragrance of blood. It was very fresh and faint, seemingly just drawn but not exposed to the air. It was likely Ferid was drinking blood directly again; no wonder he had someone watching the door outside.

Suddenly, a flash of cold light entered Luke's peripheral vision as a handsome young Vampire dressed like a black butler attacked with a weapon resembling a foil from the sport of fencing.

Luke glanced sideways and scoffed, then effortlessly dodged the strike. Following up with a whip-like kick, he sent the opponent flying over ten meters to crash against a nearby pillar.

"Ferid, this welcoming ceremony of yours isn't enthusiastic enough. Are there any follow-up acts?"

The Vampire slid to the floor, his broken bones healing in an instant as he prepared to rush Luke again.

"Shaka, stop!"

Ferid finally made his appearance, one hand on his hip, arriving in the hall with an elegant smile.

"Aha~ if it isn't Luke? What brings you to my place today?"

Shaka sheathed his sword, straightened his clothes, and silently walked behind Ferid without saying a single word throughout.

Watching Ferid approach gracefully, Luke said,

"Mother Ferid, the mute dog you're raising seems to want to bite people randomly."

With a smile on his lips, Ferid didn't take the bait nor did he correct the nickname; he didn't care about being teased.

"Luke, surely you didn't come here just to demolish my door and beat my subordinate?"

Luke looked back at the main gate that had become a ruin and said seriously,

"I saw that your mansion hadn't had its door changed in a long time and it was getting a bit flimsy. I'll have Crowley install a better one for you later. Until then, I've given you a wasteland-style makeover."

Ferid didn't want to continue the banter. He stopped his fake smile and just stared at Luke.

Luke also stood there motionless, letting Ferid stare.

Ten minutes later.

Ferid let out a long breath, deflated, and said helplessly,

"Alright, Luke, you win."

Luke stretched his neck and said triumphantly,

"I thought you were going to keep this deadlock up with me. You'd definitely be eliminated in a game of statues."

Ferid sighed, no longer engaging in wordplay with Luke.

"Speak then, what is it?"

Only then did Luke relay Krul's order to Ferid, telling him to go to the theater the day after tomorrow at dawn.

Combining this with the intelligence in his own hands, Ferid thought for a moment and formed some guesses. He nodded with a smile and replied,

"Very well, I understand. Tell Lady Krul that I will certainly be there."

Luke shot back without hesitation.

"Notifying you is just a task. To be honest, neither Lady Krul nor I really want to see you. Could you wear a mask when the time comes?"

Shaka, standing behind Ferid, felt that Luke was insulting his master and immediately prepared to draw his sword to teach him a lesson.

But Ferid stopped him in time.

Luke didn't plan to stay any longer and turned to leave. As he reached the doorway, he seemed to remember something and turned back to say to Ferid,

"Oh, by the way, drinking blood directly is illegal."

After saying that, he left without looking back.

Ferid's expression shifted uncertainly as he watched Luke leave, his thoughts unknown.

Luke then arrived at Crowley's mansion. Despite housing three Progenitors, the mansion's area wasn't as large as Ferid's, let alone Krul's palace. It was clear that the Vampire hierarchy was indeed strict.

"Eh? The door is open! What a pity, it was quite satisfying to break someone's door."

Somewhat disappointed, Luke stepped inside.

Just as he entered, a dark shadow came rushing straight toward him.

"As expected of one family, the welcoming ceremonies are so similar. Wait, why is she coming at me backwards?"

Luke raised his foot to block, and the dark shadow crashed directly into his sole.

Crack! Crack!

"Ah!"

The sound of bones fracturing rang out along with a scream from the shadow.

The shadow knelt on the ground, supporting herself with a sword in her right hand and clutching her waist with her left. She turned her head with difficulty and saw Luke.

"What the heck, it's Luke! Couldn't you have just dodged? Why did you block me with your foot? My waist is broken!"

Seeing Krul clutching her waist, Luke couldn't help but find it funny.

Crowley and Horn also slowly walked over.

"Yo, Luke, what brings you here? I was just instructing the two of them in combat. We were just mentioning you and planning to find a time to spar with you."

Looking at the enthusiastic Crowley, Luke scratched his head. Krul must have just been sent flying by Crowley.

"Next time. I'm just here to notify you of something."

Crowley was curious about what required Luke to deliver the notice personally; after all, Luke was a noble as well.

"Oh? What is it?"

Luke informed Crowley about going to the theater the day after tomorrow.

Aside from being on the wrong side, Crowley made Luke feel comfortable in all other aspects. Without Ferid's orders, he wouldn't target those in Krul's faction, and he was warm and sincere. His only flaw was his poor judgment in choosing which Vampires to follow.

After chatting with Crowley for a bit, Luke headed toward the residential area of the Upper-ranking Vampires. The sooner the task was completed, the better.
