Amity was up much later than normal, unable to fall asleep so she was doing some late night reading as she felt her stomach starting to rumble. She let out a soft sigh, I guess it wouldn't hurt to run to the corner store to get some snacks.. She thought to herself as she closed her book, I'm not even sleepy yet anyway. She thought as she stood up, pulling on some sweats and a hoodie.
After a few minutes of walking through the dimly lit campus of Hexside University Amity arrived at the campus corner store. As she entered the store she noticed Hunter was working. I feel like I see Luz's friends everywhere on this campus. She thought to herself as she started to make her way down the aisles. I should be quick, I do have a class in the morning.. Amity thought as she quickly scanned the shelves of snacks.
As Amity was picking out her snacks she didn't notice someone else had entered the store.
"Late night snack run?" Luz's voice broke Amity's concentration. Amity jumped slightly, not realizing Luz was there until after she spoke, "Y-You startled me." Amity said.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to." Luz said with a chuckle as she awkwardly held a handful of assorted snacks, shifting her weight. "It's fine," Amity said as she picked up a bag of sweet and salty snack mix.
"So um.." Luz said awkwardly, "Hi." She said with a crooked smile. "Hi.." Amity said, just as awkward as Luz.
"So.." Luz started, "Uh.. you come here often?" she asked Amity. "No," Amity said flatly.
"Yeah.. Me either.. I stop by sometimes to see Hunter and grab a snack.." Luz said as she shifted her weight.
Amity was unsure what to say, "Um.. It's nice of you to visit your friend.." She said as she grabbed a bag of chips from the shelf.
"Yeah." Luz said with a shrug, "Um.. maybe I'll see you around sometime. Like at the cafe?" Luz gave her a small smile.
"Yeah. Maybe." Amity said as her cheeks turned a little red. "Right. Well, I'll see you later, maybe?" Luz smiled bigger.
Amity nodded, "Maybe. Have a good night." She said as she started to walk past Luz but Luz stepped in the same direction as her. "Oh, uh, gosh I'm sorry," Luz said awkwardly. "It's fine," Amity said softly as they both moved to step in the same direction again. "Heh.." Luz smiled awkwardly as she took a step back.
Amity gave her a soft smile and stood awkwardly, "Uh, you can go first." She motioned for Luz to move past her. "Thanks." Luz said awkwardly as her face started to turn red, "See you around, maybe." She smiled at Amity as she gave her a small wave.
Amity let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding as Luz left. God am I always this awkward? Amity thought to herself as she walked towards the drink section. She could hear Luz and Hunter chatting as Luz was checking out.
Amity lingered near the fridges as she slowly selected a drink, trying to wait for Luz to leave so she didn't have any more awkward encounters with her. After a few minutes, she heard them saying bye as she picked out her drink. She made her way to the register to check out, exchanging pleasantries with Hunter as she did.
A few minutes later Amity made her way outside into the night, walking back towards her dorm.
She found herself thinking about Luz, wondering if she would see her at the cafe tomorrow as she started eating her snacks. Maybe Luz isn't so bad. Amity thought to herself as she walked, Its not that she's bad or anything.. I just don't know why she bothers me so much.. Amity thought as she approached her dorm.
