Chapter 18 - The Girl Who Already Knows

The air changed.

Not violently.

Not like the distortions.

Not like the monsters.

This was quieter.

But heavier.

Danny felt it immediately.

That connection—

It wasn't forcing itself.

It was… syncing.

"…Who are you?" he asked again, more serious this time.

The girl stopped a few steps away.

Close enough.

Too close.

She looked at him—

Directly.

And smiled softly.

"You can call me… Elira."

Danny frowned.

"…Call you?"

She nodded slightly.

"Names don't always stay the same."

That answer—

Felt familiar.

And not in a good way.

Abby stepped forward instantly.

Positioning herself between them.

"Enough with the vague answers."

Her aura flared slightly.

Not fully.

But ready.

"Why are you here?"

Elira's gaze shifted to Abby.

Calm.

Unbothered.

"To confirm something."

A pause.

"And now I have."

Abby's eyes narrowed.

"…Confirmed what?"

Elira didn't look at her.

She looked at Danny again.

"That he really is the one."

Silence.

Danny clenched his fists slightly.

"…The one what?"

Elira tilted her head slightly.

"The one who breaks the sequence."

That phrase—

Hit differently.

"…Sequence?" Danny repeated.

Ren exhaled softly behind him.

"…Yeah… I don't like where this is going."

Abby didn't move.

Didn't relax.

"Explain."

Elira was quiet for a moment.

Then She stepped forward again.

Abby reacted instantly—

But—

Stopped.

Not because she hesitated.

Because something told her—

Attacking now would be a mistake.

Elira stopped just in front of Danny.

Closer than anyone else had been.

And slowly—

She raised her hand.

Danny tensed.

"…What are you—"

She placed her fingers lightly against his chest.

Right where the distortion had been strongest.

And everything—

Shifted.

Danny's vision blurred.

The world around him faded.

Not disappearing—

But becoming distant.

"…What… is this…"

Elira's voice echoed—

But it wasn't from outside.

It was inside.

"Relax."

And for some reason—

He did.

Images flashed.

Fast.

Unclear.

Fragments of something—

Not memories.

But not imagination either.

A sky—

Cracked completely.

Worlds overlapping.

Cities collapsing.

Figures fighting—

Not just Abby.

Not just Ren.

Others.

Many others.

And at the center—

Him.

Danny's eyes widened.

"…No…"

Elira's voice again—

Calm.

Certain.

"You see it, don't you?"

The images sped up—

A throne.

Crimson.

A figure sitting on it—

Not fully visible—

But familiar.

Then—

Darkness.

Everything collapsing inward—

And finally—

Silence.

Danny gasped—

The world snapped back.

He stumbled backward.

Breathing heavily.

"…What… was that…?!"

Elira lowered her hand.

"A possibility."

Abby rushed forward instantly.

"What did you do to him?!"

Elira didn't react.

"I showed him what's already forming."

Danny shook his head.

"…That wasn't real…"

"Not yet."

That answer—

Was worse.

Ren stepped forward slightly.

His expression no longer relaxed.

"…You're messing with things you shouldn't."

Elira glanced at him.

"So are you."

A brief silence.

Then—

She looked back at Danny.

"You felt it, didn't you?"

A pause.

"The scale of it."

Danny didn't answer.

Because he did.

"…That wasn't just destruction…" he muttered.

Elira smiled faintly.

"No."

A pause.

"That was correction."

Abby's expression darkened instantly.

"…You're saying this is supposed to happen?"

Elira didn't hesitate.

"Yes."

Silence.

Danny's chest tightened.

"…So all of this…"

A pause.

"…is meant to happen?"

Elira looked at him.

Not cold.

Not emotionless.

But certain.

"It already has."

That sentence—

Didn't make sense.

But it felt true.

"…What does that mean?" Danny asked.

Elira stepped back slightly.

"It means you're not starting the story."

A pause.

"You're continuing it."

Danny froze.

"…Continuing…?"

Ren cursed quietly under his breath.

"…So it's that kind of situation…"

Abby's voice dropped.

"…You're talking about cycles."

Elira nodded slightly.

"Exactly."

Silence.

Danny's mind struggled to keep up.

"…Cycles…?"

Elira looked at him one last time.

"You've done this before."

Everything—

Stopped.

Not physically.

But mentally.

"…What…?"

Elira's expression softened slightly.

"You just don't remember."

A cold feeling spread through Danny's chest.

Because something deep inside him—

Reacted.

Not rejecting it.

Recognizing it.

The air shifted again.

Subtly.

Elira turned.

"We're out of time."

Abby stepped forward.

"You're not leaving."

Elira didn't even look back.

"We'll meet again."

A pause.

"When you understand more."

Danny stepped forward.

"…Wait—!"

But she was already fading.

Not like the others.

Not dissolving.

Just…

Gone.

Silence returned.

Heavy.

Unsettling.

Danny stood there.

Frozen.

"…I've done this before…?"

No one answered.

Because none of them—

Had an answer they were ready to say.

And far beyond what they could see—

Something shifted.

Because the moment Danny saw that vision—

The cycle—

Moved forward.

To Be Continued.
