Chapter 14 - A shattered bond (Bonus Chapter)

POWAAAAA

I am thinking of taking this story to very different direction. I mean, the story of One Piece will be same and all, but with Dark elements of JJK. You know, my hands are itching to off someone randomly. Sigh, my inner Gege is tempting me again.... Jokes aside, I'll be adding some important characters from other anime/manga into this fic too. No, I'll be not adding any other reincarnators or isekai characters into this. The power level will follow the One Piece verse rule.

Well, truth to be told, even before I started to write this fic, I have already decided the ending of this story long time ago. So, I just need to write it on the paper. With my own One Piece theory and imagination.

Sometime, my own genius scares me!!

P.S: I might have to add the 'Dark' tag too!!!

In the expansive backyard of the mansion atop the hill, the afternoon sunlight filtered through the leaves like scattered gold coins.

A sickly seventeen-year-old girl named Kaya sat beneath an old oak tree, a newspaper spread across her lap. However, she hadn't read a single headline in the past ten minutes. Instead, she kept glancing at the back door, once, twice, three times, as if she could make it open simply by wishing it hard enough.

The wind carried the scent of roses and freshly cut grass. Somewhere beyond the hedge, a bird called twice, then fell silent.

"Ahem… Miss Kaya, your lunch will be ready soon. We should go inside now."

The voice came from behind her, smooth and steady. Kaya didn't need to turn around; she knew Klahadore's footsteps by heart: the soft click of polished shoes, the deliberate rhythm of a man who never tripped, never hurried, and never did anything without reason.

He stood there in his neat black butler suit, every crease sharp enough to cut. His slicked-back black hair caught the light, and the round glasses rested perfectly on his nose, as if held in place by an invisible hand.

"I'd like to stay here a little longer, Klahadore," Kaya said softly.

Klahadore looked at her, then at the back door, and then back at her hopeful eyes.

He let out a tired sigh. "You want to see that boy, Usopp, don't you?"

Kaya quickly looked away, her fingers tightening on the edge of the newspaper.

"Miss, do I have to explain it again?" Klahadore stepped closer, his shadow falling across her lap. "It's not proper for a lady like you to hang around the biggest liar in this village. He's a bad influence."

"Phooey, Klahadore!" The word came out sharper than she intended. Kaya felt her cheeks flush. "Don't say that. I like his stories. They make me happy."

"The lady is right, Klahadore."

They both turned. Merry walked toward them slowly, like an old man. His uniform was slightly wrinkled at the collar. A small smile played at the corners of his mouth.

"If that boy makes Lady Kaya happy with his stories, then who are we to stand in the way?"

Klahadore didn't blink. "That boy's nonsense stories are too much for Miss's health. Besides, he's not a good person either."

Merry huffed, "And what do you know about that boy? I've watched him grow from a little kid into the young man he is now. Yes, he lies all the time, but he has his reasons."

"Whatever the reason," Klahadore said, his voice dropping, "a person who lies all the time has no truth left in them." He paused. The pause stretched. Then he added, "And we all know what kind of blood runs in his veins. His deadbeat father left him and his sick mother to become a pirate. And who's to say this boy won't do the same? Leave our sweet-hearted miss to chase after some stupid dream?"

He turned back to Kaya. "Miss, please understand: your late parents trusted me to take care of you, and I will watch over you."

Kaya looked down at her hands, which were trembling slightly. She pressed them flat against the newspaper to steady them. "Yes… I know…"

Klahadore nodded once, a small, pleased motion. "I'm glad you understand."

He looked at Merry with a gaze sharp enough to cut glass. Using the palm of his hand, he pushed his glasses up.

"I hope you understand what is truly best for Miss Kaya and her health."

He walked away.

Merry stared at Klahadore's back for a long moment. The old butler's hands, knotted with age and years of labor, curled into loose fists at his sides.

"You still don't like him, do you?" Kaya asked with a gentle smile.

Merry looked at her, worry filling his eyes.

"It's not about liking or disliking, my lady," he said slowly. "It's just… he's too extreme. Perfection means everything to him."

Kaya chuckled softly. The sound was thin, like paper crumpling. "Well, that's Klahadore for you."

Merry hummed, but it wasn't a sound of agreement.

Then they heard footsteps at the back door, accompanied by muffled voices.

"Hey, are you sure this is the right way in?" a female voice asked, impatient and sharp.

"Shh! You don't know anything!" a male voice said, confident and loud. "This is my VIP door. Only I'm allowed in."

"It looks less like a VIP door and more like a thief's favorite way in!" a gruff voice said, amused in a lazy way.

Merry frowned.

But Kaya had already sat up straight on her blanket, her eyes once again catching the light.

"Usopp!" she exclaimed.

And the name emerged like a prayer answered.

The gate swung open dramatically as Usopp strode into the garden, exuding confidence.

Four people followed behind him.

A boy wearing a straw hat grinned as if the sun had taken human form.

A young man with green hair and three swords at his hip looks bored.

A girl with orange hair was already scanning the garden as if she were calculating its value.

A pink-haired man walked with lazy steps.

Usopp's grin widened when he saw Kaya. "Well, if it isn't my favorite friend! You're looking as beautiful as ever, madam!"

Kaya's hands flew to her face, her cheeks flushing with unfamiliar emotions, feelings that made her chest feel less empty.

Merry chuckled, "Well, my boy, it looks like you've brought some new friends to meet Lady Kaya. All right; I'll leave you young folks alone."

He walked away.

Kaya lowered her hands, and her smile faded slightly. "I'm sorry I can't welcome you properly. Klahadore won't allow it." She paused, picking at the edge of the newspaper. "He's not really a bad person, though…"

Usopp waved his hand as if swatting a fly. "Eh, I don't care. I like being out here anyway. I wouldn't feel comfortable in your fancy old mansion." He puffed out his chest. "After all… I'm a brave and gallant pirate!"

Kaya laughed, then glanced past Usopp at the four strangers. They stood in a loose group, observing the two of them with varying degrees of interest.

"Well, Usopp, aren't you going to introduce your new friends to me?"

Usopp straightened up so quickly that his spine cracked. He grinned widely. "Oh, they heard about my reputation from far away and came to find me! They're the newest members of my crew!"

"No," they all said at once.

Usopp's face fell. "H-Hey, guys, at least pretend you care!" he hissed over his shoulder.

Kaya pressed her hand to her mouth to stifle another laugh.

"Thank you," she said softly, "for being friends with Usopp. He may be…" she searched for the word, "…a handful sometimes, but he has a kind heart."

Usopp's face turned the color of a ripe tomato. "K-Kaya… what are you…" He rubbed the back of his neck, suddenly very interested in a cloud passing overhead.

Luffy laughed. "SHISHISHISHISHI… yeah, he is."

Then Nami stepped forward. Her posture shifted, and her eyes sharpened. It was like watching a shopkeeper roll up their sleeves before a deal.

"Miss Kaya," she said, her voice smooth but with a sharp edge beneath, "Usopp told us you own a shipyard."

Kaya blinked. "Huh?"

"Your family's shipyard," Nami pressed. "The one in the village, you own it, don't you?"

Kaya nodded slowly, confused. "Yes. I do. Why? Do you want to buy a ship?"

Nami smiled, a businesslike smile. "Yes, we want to—"

"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?"

The voice cut through the garden like a knife, and everyone turned.

Klahadore walked toward them quickly, his polished shoes leaving no marks on the grass. His face was contorted with fury.

"HOW DARE YOU TRESPASS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY?"

Zoro raised one eyebrow. "Huh. Who's this guy?"

"Looks like a butler to me," said Yuji.

"So, a servant," said Luffy.

Klahadore's eye twitched.

He stopped in front of them, adjusting his tie with careful, deliberate movements. Then he pushed his glasses up with the palm of his hand.

"I am not a mere servant," he said, each word cold and measured. "I am Miss Kaya's personal butler." His gaze swept over them like that of a judge scrutinizing criminals. "Now, get out."

"But Klahadore, they're Usopp's friends, and they're here on business." Kaya started.

"Save your excuses for later, Miss." Klahadore said without looking at her. "If they're Usopp's friends, then they're not welcome here. I will not allow you to do any business with people like them."

"But, Klahadore—"

"No." The word fell like a blade. He pointed at Zoro. "That one is carrying swords. That kind of behavior is not allowed here."

Then he turned to Usopp, his lip curling into a sneer.

"And you, you've finally crossed the line. How dare you bring uninvited people to the mansion? People who clearly look dangerous and carry weapons?" His voice rose. "Are you trying to threaten Miss Kaya?"

"Wh-what?" Usopp's hands opened and closed nervously at his sides. "I would never do that!"

"Hmph. As if." Klahadore's voice dropped to a whisper that somehow everyone could hear. "You're nothing but a liar, a son of a filthy pirate."

Usopp's fists clenched tightly, his knuckles turning white.

"What did you say?"

"What? Got a hearing problem too?" Klahadore's smile was thin and sharp. "I said you're nothing but a son of a filthy pir—"

Usopp's fist struck his face.

The glasses flew off, and his nose began to bleed. Klahadore staggered back, one hand pressed to his face, looking, for the first time, as if he had been caught off guard.

"DON'T YOU DARE TALK ABOUT MY DAD LIKE THAT!"

Kaya's hand flew to her mouth. "U-Usopp?"

Nami rubbed the bridge of her nose. Zoro and Yuji exchanged glances.

Then Luffy placed a hand on Usopp's shoulder. "That's enough, Usopp. We should leave now."

Usopp was shaking, his breath coming in short, rapid bursts. He clicked his tongue and nodded. "Yeah."

He didn't look at Kaya; he couldn't. Instead, he turned and started walking.

Then Klahadore spoke again.

His voice was thick with blood, but steady.

"Finally showing your true colors, huh, Usopp?" he laughed, a small, ugly sound. "After all, blood calls for blood. Just like your criminal father." He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and smiled. The blood made his teeth look red. "You know, you should have died with your mother years ago. Then there would be one less spawn of a filthy pirate running around."

"KLAHADORE!" Kaya's scream tore through the garden.

Everyone stopped.

Yuji and Zoro turned slowly. Their eyes had gone blank—empty.

Nami covered her mouth, her eyes wide with surprise.

Usopp stood frozen, his entire body trembling. His knuckles were white once again.

But it was Luffy who made the move.

One moment, he was beside Usopp. The next, he was in front of Klahadore, his fist already swinging. The punch landed with a sound like meat hitting a counter. Teeth flew, and blood sprayed.

Luffy grabbed Klahadore's collar and yanked him close. His eyes were black, like holes in the world.

"What did you say?" His voice was quiet, too quiet.

Klahadore's head lolled to the side. He was still conscious, but barely.

Luffy punched him again.

And again.

And again.

"WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT BEING A PIRATE?" Punch. "WHAT DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE THE CHILD OF A PIRATE?" Punch. "HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TOLD TO JUST KILL YOURSELF BECAUSE A PIRATE'S BLOOD RUNS IN YOUR VEINS?" Punch. "HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TOLD THAT YOUR LIFE DOESN'T MATTER?" Punch. "THAT YOU DON'T MATTER?"

Each word fell like a stone sinking into deep water.

"NOOOO… PLEASE STOP…"

Kaya's scream pierced the air. She was crying now, tears streaming down her face, her hands reaching out toward nothing.

Merry and the other servants ran into the garden. They stopped at the edge, frozen by what they saw.

Nami found her voice. "What are you doing, idiots? Stop him before he kills the butler!"

Yuji and Zoro moved quickly. They grabbed Luffy's arms and pulled him. Luffy thrashed like a wild animal, his eyes still glowing a terrifying black.

"Let me go! I have to teach him a lesson! How dare he say those words!"

"It's already too much, you idiot!" Zoro's voice was harsh. "We need to leave. Now."

They dragged him back. Luffy's chest heaved, and his hands were bloody.

Usopp looked at Klahadore—bloodied, beaten, and surrounded by trembling servants. A sneer twisted his mouth. "Serves you right."

Then he looked at Kaya.

She was trembling, her entire body shaking like a leaf in a storm. Her beautiful, gentle eyes were filled with tears and pain.

"Why, Usopp?" Her voice cracked. "I thought we were friends. Then why… why didn't you stop him?"

Usopp's anger dissipated, replaced by a cold resolve. "Wh-what? What did I do? Your butler started it! He insulted my dad! Then my mom!" His voice rose. "If anyone should have stepped in, it should have been you!"

Kaya flinched as if he had struck her.

"I…" She looked down at her hands, which were shaking. "…Leave… please… and don't ever come back."

The words hung in the air like smoke.

Usopp stared at her bowed head. For a moment, his expression softened, something that resembled heartbreak.

Then it hardened once more.

"Come on, guys." His voice was flat, dead. "We've got no more business here."

He walked away without looking back.

Nami paused and looked at Kaya, a look of pity crossing her face.

"I'm really sorry about all this," she said quietly. "But your butler had it coming."

She walked away.

Zoro snorted at the beaten butler and dragged Luffy along behind him.

Yuji stayed.

He stood there for a long moment, gazing at Klahadore's crumpled body. Then he turned to Kaya, noticing her tears, trembling hands, and vacant eyes.

"You know, kid," he said, his voice soft but not kind, "you should put a leash on your butler." He glanced back at the mansion, its tall windows, locked doors, and perfect hedges. "The way he was talking… it's like he thinks he's the real owner of this place. Not you."

He walked away.

Kaya fell to her knees.

The grass was soft beneath her, and the afternoon light warmed her face.

She covered her face with her hands and cried.
