Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

He went into my room. He dismissed Eliza and sat down on the bed beside me. I kept quiet and never once did I look at him. Tears soaked my cheeks and made my eyes fluffy.

"Prey," he called. I bit my lower lip to stop it from trembling. Tears were, again, threatening to fall from my eyes. "Prey, I am talking to you. Do not be rude and face me."

"W-What do you want?" I sniffed.

"What do I want? Look at me."

"No."

He sighed. "I know you're mad at me but at least, stop crying. The doctor told me you've been sick because of stress—"

"Why do you c-care? You want me to die, as far as I remember. You s-should not care about my well-being," I said through gritted teeth. "If you really care about me, why are you purposely hurting me, t-then?"

"I did not hurt you."

"Physically, yes! But you obviously want me to suffer emotionally and mentally! Do you think I wouldn't know?! I may be stupid in your eyes, but I'm not totally dumb! You want me to kill leisurely! First, you told me my parents are killers, second you'll let me watch someone's death! If my parents are killers, so you are! You are not different from them! You kill lives, too! You're a monster!" I hissed and sobbed. My chest was tightening. "Y-You... You let the woman die... You did n-not do anything to stop them! You just watched, smiling, while someone was dying!"

I covered my face and cried.

"I-I wanna help the woman... but I don't have the power to do so... If I interfere, they would kill me, like what they did to her... And you! Between us you have the privilege to stop it from h-happening, yet you didn't! You didn't make any m-move to save her! Y-you just let her die!"

He was speechless. He can't retort because what I've said make any sense. He's nothing different from my parents, which he claimed to be the killer of his parents.

He sighed. "Maybe, you are right. I'm also a killer and a monster. There's nothing different with your parents. They do killing for a living, I watch death for entertainment. Both heartless and inhumane things. But, you seem to forget that I'm a vampire and a demon, not a weak human being. Thus, I am quite different from your pathetic parents. While I kill sinful people, they, on the other hand, kill lives for their twisted beliefs." He smiled scarily.

He patted my head. "Cheer up, prey. The one who got executed isn't as saint as you think she is. She's one of those hunters who kills vampires and abducts vampire babies for their experimentation. They kill our youngsters for their gains. She deserves her death."

I slowly look at him.

"S-She did?"

"Yes. Imagine how terrible that woman is. Killing babies and making them their experimentation object. Babies are supposed to be innocent lives yet they only subject them to evil creatures and heartlessly kill them. All of the slaves in that event has done something bad in their lives before they were captured and got enslaved."

I imagined a lot of kids and babies dying because the experimentation that they've been doing has been unsuccessful. My heart broke.

"A-Are you saying t-the truth?" I asked, hesitant to believe his words.

"Of course, I am." He caressed my cheek. "Why would I lie to you? Would I gain something from it if I do so?"

What he said made sense, but the doubt was still never leaving my system.

Traiver smiled down at me. "How about we go downstairs and eat? I'm sure you're quite hungry. I've also told the maid to prepare sweets for you. Sounds good, right?"

**

He carried me downstairs. I tried to free him but he didn't allow me. I gave up and just let him be. I've already finished having a quick shower.

"Hi, how are you feeling, Navelle?" Rasheb asked me.

I smiled. "I'm okay now, Rasheb. Thank you."

He smiled back. "I'm glad. Anyway, I've received the sweets you brought for me."

My eyes widened. "Did you like it?"

"Yep. I definitely like it. Thanks for being thoughtful."

I giggled. I've only took it from an event but he still loves it.

"Let's eat," Traiver said from the head of the table. Rasheb and I were sitting across from each other on either side of Traiver.

The maids began serving us. I thanked them one by one before I began eating.

"You must be hungry because you eat a lot, Navelle," Rasheb stated and followed by him sipping on his wine—or blood?

"I... I, I'm hungry," I struggled to say.

"Don't speak when your mouth is full, prey."

I pouted and obeyed him, anyway.

After eating the main course, I began filling my sweet tooth with the delicious desserts they have prepared for me. I sent Traiver a grateful smile, which he returned with a slight nod.

"Did you enjoy the food?" he asked as we walked towards the garden.

"Yep!"

"Feeling better now?"

"Hmm!"

He sighed. I looked at him and tilted my head. I've never heard him sighed this heavily. Is there something wrong?

"Anyway, forgot what happened that night, alright?" he said. "The doctor said it's not good for you to remember such things."

"... mm, okay." Though I can't promise that. I can't promise not to remember that woman.

"Good." He stopped walking and faced me. I stopped too and craned my neck to look at him. I blinked and smiled. His jaw clenched. "Prey."

"Yes, master?"

He frowned. "Who told you to call me that?"

"Everyone calls you master, so I'll call you master, too!"

He rolled his eyes. "Call me Traiver."

"Okay, master—I mean, Traiver!" I giggled.

"Whatever." He scoffed. "By the way, what year are you supposedly studying?"

"Huh? You mean, my studies?" I asked. He nodded. "I'm supposedly in my first year of college."

"What course?"

"Medicine. Though, on my premed, I wanna take nursing."

"Okay."

"Why did you ask, Aver?"

"Aver?"

"Yes, Aver, from TraiVER. I'm giving you a nickname!"

"What is this girl thinking about..." he murmured to himself and sighed.

"So? Why did you suddenly ask?" I inquired.

He shrugged. "Nothing. I just thought of home-schooling you since you're gonna stay in this house for quite some time."
