Starvation had become my constant companion.
It gnawed at my belly like a rabid beast, tearing through muscle and bone with relentless fury. The cramping never stopped. Each shallow breath felt empty, worthless. Moving took energy I no longer possessed. My flesh had been consuming itself for months now, maybe longer than I could track. Time had lost all meaning in this hellhole.
The stone floor burned cold against my face.
I stared through the dim space at the metal bars containing me. They pulsed with a sickly light in the shadows. Whether it was my mind playing tricks or the wolfsbane coursing through the steel, I couldn't tell anymore.
Those bars served as my daily reminder that even with strength I didn't have, escape remained impossible.
My brother excelled at details like that.
