Chapter 70 - The Great Battle Against the Lovebirds

Most Warcraft players remembered Whitemane for her striking figure, as well as the voice line she delivered when resurrecting Scarlet Commander Mograine.

As a Priest, Whitemane believed in the Holy Light and wielded holy magic with ease. Like the other warriors of the Scarlet Crusade, she hated the undead to the bone.

At the same time, her feelings for Renault Mograine were sincere and pure. Toward the companion she had grown up with since childhood, Whitemane showed her softer, more tender side.

Blizzard's story team often gave special treatment to female characters. In the Legion expansion, Whitemane was resurrected and became the third member of the new Four Horsemen of the Ebon Blade. She followed the Deathlord and Minerva Ravensorrow, rode Daumyr, and battled demons on the Broken Shore.

Poor Scarlet Commander Mograine, however, stayed dead for good. The two lovebirds could only remain in players' hazy memories.

"Don't touch Scarlet Commander Mograine."

Gabryell had no interest in corpse-running.

"He's alone. Why not just kill him?" Igor asked, confused. Running Retribution Paladin all the way here had made him extremely cocky.

The biggest wipe point in Scarlet Monastery Cathedral was pulling Mograine before clearing the entire chapel. The result was tragic enough to make anyone weep, and the scene was too miserable to watch.

Gabryell said, "Mograine has linked aggro with every elite mob in the chapel. The moment you pull him, every mob in here will come running."

The level 60 Mage one-pull strategy in Cathedral was to tag Mograine once, then sprint toward the pool like your life depended on it.

Many newbies wiped here on their first Cathedral run. They thought that as long as they cleared the trash directly in front of Mograine, they could pull the boss safely.

Gabryell did not want to make such a rookie mistake and run back to his corpse. "Clear every trash mob on both the left and right sides. Leave nothing alive."

Carlos, who had almost charged Mograine just now, broke out in a cold sweat after hearing the explanation. "Leave nothing alive. Clear them all."

After nearly dancing on the edge of a wipe, Igor became much more obedient and followed behind Carlos as they cleared the trash bit by bit.

They cleared the left side first, then the right. When they entered the small room on the right, Gabryell stopped in front of a torch on the left wall and clicked it.

"Let's kill High Inquisitor Fairbanks first."

Scarlet Monastery Cathedral had three bosses: Whitemane, Scarlet Commander Mograine, and Fairbanks.

Most players had only fought Whitemane and Mograine, not Fairbanks. They probably had no idea where he was hidden.

Fairbanks was in the small room on the right side of the chapel. At first glance, the room only seemed to contain a Scarlet Chaplain, but that was not the case. The torch on the left side of the room was a hidden switch. Click it, and a small door would open in the left wall. Fairbanks was lying inside.

"Damn, there's actually a secret room," Hugo said in surprise.

After entering the secret room and seeing Fairbanks lying there, Lunatori asked, "Why is he undead?"

Gabryell said, "He was locked up here by Scarlet Commander Mograine. As for the full story, you can read the World of Warcraft Chronicle when you get the chance."

Fairbanks was waiting for the wielder of the Ashbringer. If someone brought Corrupted Ashbringer, dropped by the Four Horsemen in Naxxramas, to Scarlet Monastery Cathedral, it would trigger a special scripted event. Of course, any top-tier player qualified to obtain Corrupted Ashbringer would hardly have time to mess around in a level-30s dungeon.

Fairbanks was a Priest. In other words, he had almost no offensive ability. His only attack method was basic melee. Interrupt his Heal, and he was a pushover.

Fairbanks dropped a decent spell-damage shoulder piece. During the open beta period, when spell-damage gear was scarce, this was an excellent shoulder item.

Gabryell clicked Need, while Lunatori chose Pass. She now understood how important spell damage was and decided to let Gabryell build up his spell damage first so he could kill more Horde players.

After killing Fairbanks, it was Mograine's turn. Compared to his father, Highlord Alexandros Mograine, he was a joke.

"Scarlet Commander Mograine is a Paladin," Gabryell reminded them.

Igor, who was also a Paladin, asked, "And?"

Gabryell said, "He can go immune for 12 seconds."

Mograine would only use his immunity in Phase 2, so they had to be warned in advance. Otherwise, they might get caught off guard and thrown into chaos.

"Mograine has two phases. In the second phase, the door to the room ahead will open. Whitemane will come out, resurrect him, and join the fight."

This was not a level 60 one-pull boost run, so the tactics had to be explained in detail.

"Whitemane is a Priest. Her main abilities are Power Word: Shield and Heal. Prioritize interrupting her Heal. Don't let her get any healing off."

"Mograine has 12 seconds of immunity, plus Whitemane's shield. Killing him is difficult."

Gabryell emphasized it several times. "So in Phase 1, we need to manage our mana. Don't get carried away. Save your burst for Phase 2 so we can kill Mograine. Once he's dead, Whitemane is basically free loot."

Carlos asked, "Then why don't we kill Whitemane first?"

Hugo said, "Yeah. Killing Whitemane first sounds easier. Without anyone healing him, Mograine is still just a punching bag even if he has immunity."

Gabryell shook his head and explained why they could not kill Whitemane first.

"Killing Whitemane first is indeed easier, but if Whitemane dies first, Mograine won't drop anything. Only if Mograine dies first will he drop loot."

This was the trade-off between difficulty and loot. Gabryell believed in his teammates' strength. They were capable of securing Mograine's drops.

"Does Mograine drop Paladin gear?" Igor asked.

Gabryell nodded. "He does."

Of the four pieces of gear Mograine dropped, Paladins could actually use all of them.

Igor said, "Then what are we waiting for? Kill Mograine first."

Loot mattered above all else. For the sake of gear, they had to kill Mograine first even if it meant risking their lives.

With the strategy decided, Carlos charged in and pulled the boss. Mograine would not use immunity in Phase 1, so they could slowly wear him down without much trouble.

When Mograine was defeated, the most iconic scene in Scarlet Monastery appeared.

The door to the room ahead opened, and Whitemane walked out from within.

The classic dialogue between the two lovebirds began.

"Scarlet Commander Mograine has fallen? You shall pay for this treachery!"

Whitemane ran over to Mograine, but she did not resurrect him right away. Instead, she joined the fight against Gabryell and the others first.

When Whitemane's health dropped to around 35%, she used her shameless mass sleep, putting all five of them to sleep for 10 seconds.

Then she began casting Scarlet Resurrection.

"Arise, my champion!"

Scarlet Commander Mograine was resurrected.

"At your side, my lady."

Whitemane smoothly cast Heal, bringing her own health back up. Only then did Mograine attack Carlos, who had the highest threat, waking him up.

"Damn, she can rez too?"

Seeing it with his own eyes, Igor could not help cursing when he watched Whitemane bring Mograine back. "What a pair of cheaters."

Now everyone finally understood why Gabryell called Whitemane and Mograine those two lovebirds.

A shameless mass sleep, followed by Resurrection and Heal. It was basically like both of them had two lives. Absolutely dirty.

"Interrupt Whitemane's Heal and kill Mograine."

If they failed to interrupt Heal properly, the long fight would drain their mana, and they would eventually lose.

"He's immune!"

When Mograine's health dropped below half, he used his 12-second immunity.

"Switch to Whitemane. Push her health down and keep interrupting Heal," Gabryell commanded calmly.

For the sake of Mograine's loot, they did not simply blow all their burst and kill Whitemane outright. Once his immunity ended, they immediately switched back to him.

Gabryell saw that Lunatori's mana was almost empty. "Luna, do you have any mana potions?"

Lunatori said, "I have a Greater Mana Potion. It dropped from a chest earlier."

As she spoke, she drank it. Her luck was good; it restored the maximum value of 900 mana in one go.

Unfortunately, Druids did not get Innervate until level 40. Otherwise, there would be no need to worry about mana at all.

"Damn, why is he immune again?" Igor was shocked when he saw a shield of light appear around Mograine.

Gabryell said, "That's Whitemane's shield. Did you drink fake booze or what? How can you even mix that up?"

After attacking twice, Igor realized he had embarrassed himself by overreacting, so he obediently shut his mouth.

When both bosses were about to enter the execute phase, Gabryell used Evocation.

"Everyone, go all out. Burn Mograine down. Don't let him use a second immunity."

Boss cooldowns were different from player cooldowns. If the fight dragged on too long, Mograine would use immunity again.

This was the all-out call everyone had been waiting for. They unleashed everything they had and forcibly burned down Mograine's final 20% health.

Scarlet Commander Mograine hit the floor.

Left all alone, Whitemane could only be beaten down, and she soon fell as well.

"Not bad. You played that well." Gabryell let out a breath of relief. With another team whose gear was worse, they probably would have wiped to those two even if they killed Whitemane first.

"Luna, go."

It was Lunatori's turn to shine.

Lunatori went up to loot the bodies, starting with Mograine.

A level 39 shield. Ignoring the 7 Spirit, its 1548 Armor, 8 Stamina, and 7 Strength made it one of the best shields currently available, a true symbol of a powerful main tank.

The best shield at level 45 was the BoE epic world drop Wall of the Dead. That shield had an even lower drop rate than Staff of Jordan, so there was no point thinking too much about it.

"What happened to the Paladin gear you promised?" Igor had no intention of becoming a Protection Paladin. He had already fallen in love with Retribution.

Carlos accepted it without hesitation and replaced his current shield. His armor jumped by a huge margin, making him even tougher.

Lunatori looted Whitemane's body.

She did not loot Whitemane's Chapeau or Triune Amulet, the two pieces Gabryell wanted. Instead, she got Hand of Righteousness, the one-handed healing mace with the lowest drop rate.

"Looks like I'll have to run this one or two more times." Gabryell was max level now and had plenty of time to farm gear.

Lunatori happily accepted Hand of Righteousness and replaced Hypnotic Blade. She was now the strongest healer in the game.

Actually, if a Rogue had a group of friends helping them, they could come to Scarlet Monastery and shamelessly take Hand of Righteousness just like Hypnotic Blade. Ignore the stats, focus only on the weapon damage, and use it as a melee weapon.

"Are we still farming?" Carlos asked.

Igor reminded them, "We're running out of time."

Gabryell sighed. "Let's come back tomorrow. One night won't make a difference."

"Luna, we have something to do, so we're logging off first. Ask the other guild teams if they have a spot. If they do, join them," Gabryell told Lunatori.

Lunatori obediently said, "Okay, Leader. Go handle your real-life stuff. Don't worry about me."

Gabryell opened an Ironforge portal. The four roommates returned to the city directly, preparing to attend the first gathering of their school's World of Warcraft club.
