When he woke, he was in his bed.
He blinked, trying to remember where he was. The manor. His room. The quarry...
He sat up too quickly, and the room spun.
"Easy."
The voice was soft, familiar. Kaelen turned his head and saw Lysander sitting in the chair by the window, his eyes calm, his face a little pale. He looked like he hadn't slept in days.
"How long?" Kaelen asked. His voice was hoarse, barely more than a whisper.
"Three days."
Kaelen nodded. That made sense, the blood loss, the energy surge, the integration, his body would have needed time to recover.
"The workers..."
"Fine. Aperi got everyone out before the collapse. The quarry is… well, it's a mess. But no one was hurt."
Kaelen let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. "And the network?"
Lysander's expression shifted. Something flickered in his eyes, but they returned to normal before Kaelen could decipher the meaning.
