Chapter 34 - Eleanor's Stories - Lucas's Breaking Point

It rained on the fourth day of Eleanor's visit, not a gentle rain but a proper storm with thunder rolling across the sky and lightning splitting the clouds. Rain hammered against the floor-to-ceiling windows like it had a personal vendetta against glass.

Eleanor loved it.

"Good weather," she announced, settling into her favorite chair with her knitting. "Rain washes everything clean. Cities need rain and people need rain. It reminds them they're not in control."

Sophie and Kevin hadn't come today because the storm had kept them at Marlene's Corner, where they were apparently helping board up windows and move pastries to higher ground. Marlene had sent a text: "Stay dry. Stay safe. Cake tomorrow."
