Chapter 108: TORN
Dominic already knows when I come back inside.
I see it the moment I step through the garden door, in the specific set of his shoulders, the way he is standing in the middle of the kitchen with his coffee cup in his hand and his eyes on the window I just came through. He watched. Not the conversation, the garden is too far from the house for that, but enough. He saw Sebastian and me standing at the ridge and he read the quality of it from the distance with the particular precision of a man who has spent his entire professional life reading rooms from across them.
"He told you," Dominic says.
Not a question.
"Yes," I say.
"What did he say."
"He said he loves me," I say. "He was honest about it and he didn't ask for anything and he accepted my answer without argument."
