Antonidas and Krasus both recognized that object at the same time.
Atiesh.
The legendary staff of the Guardian.
Antonidas took a deep breath.
"What else did you see in your dreams?"
Allen tucked the wooden stick back into his robe, then raised his head. His gaze was calm, yet deep.
"He told me," his voice was soft, "that I've been chosen. The Horde will reopen the Dark Portal. They will seize the Book of Medivh, the Eye of Dalaran, and the Scepter of Sargeras."
He paused briefly.
"He wants me to stop it."
[Deception Check: Success]
[You stand atop the Violet Citadel, surrounded by twenty staffs pointed at you. Before you are the greatest mages of this era. And the only leverage in your hands is a piece of scrap wood you picked up—and a mouth willing to say anything.]
[Yet the moment you speak, they believe you. Not because your lie is flawless, but because your words strike directly at the deepest hope they long to hear.]
[A repentant Medivh. A tearful Medivh. A Medivh begging for forgiveness, seeking redemption. How beautiful.]
[What they see is not a smooth-talking fraud, but a messenger chosen by fate—a potential successor to the Guardian, someone Dalaran can shape. So they choose to believe you.]
Allen was thus gently released by two archmages of the Council of Six.
Antonidas even personally ordered that all Kirin Tor mages present that day must strictly keep the matter confidential—about the exorcism alarm, about the dream, and about that fragment of Atiesh.
Not only that, they even gifted Allen a fragment of Atiesh.
As they put it:
"Perhaps… this is destiny. Perhaps it will fall to you to restore the Guardian's staff."
Antonidas held Allen in high regard. In his eyes, Allen must have some deep connection to Medivh. If he could take Allen as a disciple, that would be immensely satisfying.
According to them, the top fragment of Atiesh had once been stored in Dalaran many years ago—only to be stolen later.
Allen silently complained to himself. Dalaran's security, as expected, was as "reassuring" as ever.
He vaguely remembered that the top and bottom fragments of Atiesh dropped from some dungeon boss, though he had never personally done that quest.
Most likely from Ahn'Qiraj Temple or Naxxramas near the end of Classic.
After asking further about their journey, Antonidas placed even greater importance on the "prophetic" information from Allen's dream.
After all, this wasn't a prophecy arrogantly delivered to him—it was something he had pieced together himself from scattered clues.
The two spoke quietly for a moment before summoning a messenger mage, issuing an order to immediately strengthen the security around the Eye of Dalaran.
Of course, since the daughter of Daelin Proudmoore was studying in Dalaran, they would naturally take good care of her as well.
On a side note—once the crisis of nearly being arrested and thrown into the Violet Hold was resolved, Allen finally had time to check his completed quest.
[Side Quest: Strange Wooden Stick (Completed)]
[Objective: Reach the nearest city of magic, 1/1]
[Reward: 1 random low-tier spell is being drawn, class level increased by 1…]
[…]
[Draw successful. Congratulations, you have obtained the spell: Disguise Self.]
[Disguise Self]
[Level: 1st-circle]
[Effect: Magically alter every aspect of your appearance.]
[Wizard Level 1 → Wizard Level 2]
[Class passive unlocked: Metamagic!]
[You may select two Metamagic options and one 1st-circle Wizard spell.]
Metamagic was a unique form of spell augmentation exclusive to spellcasters. Allen chose Extended and Twinned.
[Metamagic—Extended Spell: Greatly increases the range of your next spell.]
[Metamagic—Twinned Spell: A spell that targets a single creature can target an additional creature.]
With these two Metamagic options, countless applications instantly came to mind.
From now on, he could snipe people from afar with Psychic Blast—
—and even blow up two heads at once.
He had already begun rehearsing it in his mind.
For his 1st-circle wizard spell, Allen chose Magic Missile. It was about time he learned something properly offensive—especially since he finally had the chance to pick one himself.
[Magic Missile]
[Level: 1st-circle]
[Effect: Based on your magical power, you launch 3–n force missiles that automatically hit the target.]
Most importantly, Magic Missile in DND has a 100% hit rate.
Of course, Allen wasn't sure whether the system would start yelling, "Are you deaf?", and still force the spell to hit enemies that shouldn't be hittable in the Warcraft setting.
Hmm. Something to test later.
Disguise Self was also solid—a very practical spell.
Allen took out the fragment Antonidas had given him, then pulled out his own.
The breaks clearly didn't match. One fragment had a jagged, uneven fracture, while the other's grain didn't line up at all.
But when he brought them close—
The runes lit up.
Ancient runes on both fragments glowed with a faint golden light, like slumbering stars awakening.
Something invisible seemed to pull them together. At the broken edges, tender green sprouts began to grow—emerging from one fragment, winding around the other, wrapping, tightening, merging.
Seamless.
As if they had never been broken.
Everyone around them was stunned.
Allen himself was a little surprised.
So this is what a legendary weapon feels like. Not just stats and affixes—but something alive.
[Side Quest Triggered: Strange Wooden Stick (II)]
[You have reached the City of Magic. The fragment gifted to you by the archmages has fused with the one in your possession. I can feel the magic within it growing more turbulent—it is alive, it is growing, it is calling out to the remaining fragments.]
[Objective: Collect more fragments of the Strange Wooden Stick: 2/3]
[Reward: Random mid-tier spell ×1, +2 free attribute points, +1 class level]
...
When the figures of the Council of Six appeared in the apprentice enrollment area, everyone was stunned.
That was Antonidas—the leader of the Kirin Tor, the very symbol of Dalaran.
Beside him stood Krasus, the mysterious high elf archmage—rumor had it even Antonidas treated him with deference.
These two normally only appeared at the highest-level councils. Even full-fledged mages rarely saw them.
And now, these two heavyweights had brought Jaina to the Arcane Affinity testing site.
This was a rite every mage apprentice had to go through—after all, you couldn't waste a lifetime training someone who couldn't even sense arcane energy.
The news spread faster than an Arcane Missiles volley.
"Who is that? Who's got this kind of backing?"
"I heard she's the daughter of Admiral Daelin of Kul Tiras."
"Daelin's daughter? That still doesn't justify two archmages escorting her, does it?"
At the center of the testing area stood a stone platform. Above it floated a sharply faceted crystal prism.
Based on a subject's affinity with Arcane energy, it would emit light—ranked from lowest to highest: dim, faint, stable, bright, high, and extremely high.
Normally, this place wasn't crowded.
But with those two present, a crowd quickly gathered.
Jaina looked a bit nervous. She stepped forward, one hand tightly clutching the pouch Allen had given her, and began the test.
Buzz!
The crystal instantly flared to life, its light bright and vibrant—like a still lake disturbed by a stone, ripples spreading and converging.
A few seconds later, clear and radiant Common script appeared above the prism:
[Arcane Affinity: High]
Jaina released her hand and stepped back, her expression unreadable.
The crowd erupted.
"High! It's High!"
"My gods, how old is she?"
"Kul Tiras is about to produce another archmage…"
Antonidas nodded in satisfaction, and a faint smile appeared on Krasus's lips. He turned toward Jaina, about to speak—
Allen gathered his courage and spoke up.
There were many things he might not understand, but at the very least, he wanted to learn Arcane Intellect so he could buff himself.
"I'd also like to continue studying in Dalaran… um, could I try as well?"
Antonidas and Krasus both grew interested, their gazes shifting toward Allen.
Oh?
This young man—possibly personally chosen by Medivh—what kind of magical talent would he possess?
