Chapter 39 - Bride of the Shadow King

Chapter 39: Before the Final War

The battlefield slowly fell silent.

Smoke drifted across the shattered land, and the wounded soldiers were carried back to the kingdom. The ground was stained with blood, and the air still carried the smell of destruction.

Liora stood quietly, watching the distant sky.

Kael had retreated.

But this time… something felt different.

Her heart felt heavy.

"This isn't over…"

The Shadow King stepped beside her.

"...No. It's just the beginning."

Leon joined them, holding his sword against his shoulder.

"He's preparing something bigger."

The Shadow King nodded.

"...We need to prepare too."

Back at the Shadow Kingdom, the atmosphere became tense.

Soldiers rushed across the castle grounds. Weapons were repaired. Mages gathered in groups, preparing spells.

War preparation had begun.

Liora walked through the corridor slowly.

Her body still hurt from the last battle.

But her mind hurt more.

She stopped near a window.

The night sky looked darker than usual.

Suddenly—

Footsteps approached.

She turned.

The Shadow King stood behind her.

"You should rest."

She shook her head.

"I can't."

Silence filled the air.

She looked at him.

"Are you afraid?"

He paused.

"...Yes."

Her eyes widened slightly.

"You?"

"...I might lose you."

Her heart skipped.

The words felt heavier than anything else.

She stepped closer.

"You won't."

He looked at her quietly.

"...War doesn't promise anything."

Her fingers tightened.

"...Then promise me."

He looked at her.

"I'll do everything to survive."

A faint smile appeared on his lips.

"...I promise."

Their eyes met.

The air grew warm.

He slowly reached forward.

His hand gently held hers.

Her heart raced.

"Liora…"

She looked up.

Their faces moved closer.

The distance between them disappeared.

Then—

He gently pulled her into his arms.

Her eyes widened.

But she didn't resist.

She rested her head against his chest.

His heartbeat felt strong.

"...Stay alive."

His voice was soft.

"I will."

For a moment—

The war felt far away.

Elsewhere—

Leon stood alone on the castle wall.

The wind blew quietly.

His expression looked distant.

"You came back from death…"

A voice spoke behind him.

He turned.

It was one of the commanders.

"You shouldn't be alone."

Leon smiled faintly.

"I'm fine."

The commander hesitated.

"...You changed."

Leon looked at the sky.

"Death changes people."

The commander nodded.

"...Do you trust her?"

Leon looked confused.

"Liora?"

The commander nodded.

"...She's the key to everything."

Leon smiled.

"I trust her."

The commander lowered his head.

"...Good."

But his eyes darkened slightly.

Meanwhile—

Far away—

Inside Kael's fortress.

Dark energy filled the hall.

Kael sat on his throne.

Darius stood beside him.

"The Shadow Kingdom is preparing."

Kael nodded.

"...Let them."

Valtar stepped forward.

"The ritual worked… but you lost ground."

Kael smiled faintly.

"I didn't lose."

His eyes glowed.

"I observed."

He raised his hand.

Dark magic formed.

"They've grown stronger…"

His smile widened.

"So have I."

Suddenly—

Another figure stepped out from the shadows.

Darius looked surprised.

"...You're finally here."

The figure bowed.

"My lord."

Kael nodded slowly.

"Are you ready?"

"Yes."

Kael smiled.

"Then the final phase begins."

Back at the Shadow Kingdom—

The next morning arrived.

The army gathered in the courtyard.

The Shadow King stood before them.

Liora beside him.

Leon on the other side.

The soldiers waited silently.

The Shadow King spoke.

"The final battle is coming."

His voice echoed across the courtyard.

"We may not all return."

Silence filled the air.

"But we fight…"

His eyes sharpened.

"For our home."

The soldiers raised their swords.

"For the kingdom!"

Liora felt her heart pound.

This was it.

The final war.

Leon stepped forward.

"We move at sunset."

The army began preparing.

Liora looked at the Shadow King.

"...This feels like the end."

He looked at her quietly.

"...No."

He gently touched her hand.

"It's the beginning."

The wind moved softly.

Dark clouds gathered again.

Far away—

Kael's army marched forward.

The final war—

Had begun.
